The '''League of Copyeditors''' is a group of copyeditors who target the substantial backlog of articles requiring copyediting. The League edits these articles to improve style (including grammar, punctuation and diction) and formatting (including capitalization and wikification).

The following tag indicates that an article requires copyediting:
{{Copyedit|categories=no}}
The League aims to improve all such articles to a standard meriting the removal of the tag.

== Tasks ==
Please see ''']''' for proofreading
status and a list of tasks.

==Copyedit requests==
Please follow these instructions to ensure we see your copyediting request:

* '''FAC/FAR requests''': If your article is currently in the FAC or FAR process and '''copyediting/prose is the ONLY remaining objection''', please list your article at the bottom of our "Copy-edit requests for FAC and FAR articles" section of our ]. NOTE: if there are other objections (references, etc.), please do not list your article until they are resolved.

* '''General requests''': Please add the article to the bottom of the "Copy-edit requests for other articles" section of our ].

==Objectives==

The League's objectives are to do the following:

* reduce the ] to a manageable level;
* tag articles in need of copyediting;
* process difficult articles; and
* assure excellence by copyediting, then proofreading, each article in the backlog.

==Current to-do list==
1. Patrol the ].
:*] any article on the list.
:* Remove the copyedit tag <nowiki>({{copyedit}})</nowiki>.
:* Post the article on ] in the "Articles ready for final proofread" section.

2. Recruit new members to assist in tackling the ever growing number of articles in need of copyediting.

3. Ensure accuracy by proofreading each article after it receives a copyedit from a League member (particularly when the article is lengthy or difficult).

4. Lend your expertise to the group by searching through the "Requests for copy-editing assistance" and "In Progress" sections to see if you can provide additional help.

5. '''Optional''': If you feel comfortable doing so, please add an "areas of interest/expertise" heading to your user page and list those areas. League members who need assistance editing a particular topic may refer to your user page and solicit your help.

==Template instructions==
===If you are copyediting an article===
Insert the following template at the '''top of the article page''' ''before making an edit'' to avoid edit conflicts. Remember to save immediately so that the template shows to all users. '''Remove the template''' after you have finished copyediting the article.

<tt><nowiki>{{Template:Inuse}}</nowiki></tt>

The template should display as follows:
{{Template:Inuse|category=no}}

If the copyedit is extensive and must continue over more than one session, place the following template at the '''top of the article discussion page'''. '''Remove the template''' after you have finished copyediting the article.

<tt><nowiki>{{Template:WP:LoCE:In Progress}}</nowiki></tt>

The template should display as follows:
{{Template:WP:LoCE:In Progress}}

===If you have finished copyediting an article===
Place the following '''at the bottom of the article talk page''' as a new comment. Copy and paste the template code below verbatim; there is no need to substitute the current month name and year, for the code does this automatically.

<tt><nowiki>==Copyedit==</nowiki></tt><br />
<tt><nowiki>{{WP:LoCE</nowiki></tt><br />
<tt><nowiki>|{{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}</nowiki></tt><br />
<tt><nowiki>|~~~~</nowiki></tt><br />
<tt><nowiki>}}</nowiki></tt>

The template should display as follows:

{{WP:LoCE
|February 2007
|Your signature and time-stamp
}} }}

===If you proofread a copyedited article===
Edit the comment of the copyeditor on the article discussion page by adding <tt><nowiki>|~~~~</nowiki></tt> as another parameter.

For example, you would change this:

<tt><nowiki>==Copyedit==</nowiki></tt><br />
<tt><nowiki>{{WP:LoCE</nowiki></tt><br />
<tt><nowiki>|</nowiki>February 2007</tt><br />
<tt><nowiki>|] 04:54, 8 February 2007 (UTC)</nowiki></tt><br />
<tt><nowiki>}}</nowiki></tt>

to this:

<tt><nowiki>==Copyedit==</nowiki></tt><br />
<tt><nowiki>{{WP:LoCE</nowiki></tt><br />
<tt><nowiki>|</nowiki>February 2007</tt><br />
<tt><nowiki>|] 04:54, 8 February 2007 (UTC)</nowiki></tt><br />
<font color=red><tt><nowiki>|~~~~</nowiki></tt></font><br />
<tt><nowiki>}}</nowiki></tt>

The new template should display as follows:

{{WP:LoCE
|February 2007
|] 04:54, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
|Your signature and timestamp
}}
