== Spam == == New bot dump. ==

Just a quick note, there's a new bot dump for Wolterbot to go through. ]&nbsp;{]]&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;]} 01:14, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Hi. You tagged ] as spam. It is not. A whole house fan is an appliance like an air conditioner or a water heater. You tagged ] as spam. It is not. It is an appropriate article for ]. It is inappropriate to tag such pages as spam and highly inappropriate to tag them for speedy deletion. When an article contains spam, it should be tagged with ]. Then the spam content can be removed. But the article itself is not under consideration for deletion. Thanks for helping to improve the Misplaced Pages. — Reinyday, 23:07, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
: Yes, they seem to come in every 5 days now. However I was away from the machine where WolterBot runs. Will try to catch the next "fresh" dump, around Oct 15. --] (]) 22:46, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

== Notability sorting == == Cleanup Listing ==
Hi! I noticed that you do quite a bit of sorting for ] and want to thank you for all your work, especially since you also specify a subject parameter (e.g., "Biographies"), which is especially helpful to new users. I am just writing to ask if would you also please specify a date parameter (in the form, e.g., <nowiki>{{notability|Biographies|date=May 2007}})</nowiki>, so that the articles are sorted into the monthly maintenance categories? Cheers, ''']''' ''(])'' 18:48, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
: Hi! I was assuming that the date was automatically added by robot ] every now and then. Actually that happened at least to some articles I edited. But you say that some of them were not updated? (Maybe only the more recent ones?) --] 19:00, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
::Yep, SmackBot does date them. It's a ''very'' minor issue really and the subject parameter is, of course, more important than the date ... adding the date parameter just reduces the lag time in subcategorising articles placed in ]. Cheers, ''']''' ''(])'' 19:15, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
*My bad on using ''subst'' in the {{tl|notability}} tags - It's difficult to keep track of which templates are subst'd, and which aren't. - ]<span style="color:#FF0000">(])</span> 13:37, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, thanks again for your participation in ]. Ran across several articles where you forgot to delete the 'notability' tag, which kept it on the project's to-do list after you had nominated it for deletion. Just a reminder to remember to do this. Thanks! ]] 08:46, 15 September 2007 (UTC) Can you have Wolterbot update ]? I saw that it had updated some but not all of the cleanup pages and was wondering if you could get around to this one? ] (]) 16:59, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
: The subscription template had been from the project page, therefore the listings were not updated. I have re-added the subscription, you should see the updated listing soon. --] (]) 19:56, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
* Hi! I usually keep the notability tag on the article until it actually gets deleted (or sorted otherwise). This prevents articles from just "falling of the list" in the case that for example a PROD is contested, but I didn't have hte article on my watchlist. --] 11:38, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
: My opinion on this is that once we sort an article and add a <nowiki>{{db}}</nowiki> or <nowiki>{{prod}}</nowiki> tag, it becomes part of another process (speedy deletion, deletion) and the article appears on another list where it is handled by another segment of the community. Our function is to arbitrate cases where notability is contested and get them to the next step in the process. Once we have done that, I think the article should be taken off our to-do list. That's the way I read #6 ]. ]] 20:56, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

==Mentoring== == Bug ==
I realize that you are fairly new to WP and might like some help with your deletion projects. Normally, I am concerned about new volunteers getting overly involved in deletion, but you seem to be very conscientious and we could really use you your energy. I would be happy to help you anytime that you have a question regarding policies or guidelines. If I don't know the answer, I know the people who will. I should disclose that I am inclined toward finding alternatives to deletion for borderline topics, but I am not naive when it comes to getting rid of spam, vanity, and other crap. --] 19:26, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Just wondering how this project exists. I am all for removing spam from wikipedia it is a good thing but if you keep deleting people's work your gonna get some opposition. Isn't your split second decision of notability a bit POV? Mikko Innanen is a noted saxophonist - copywright should be removed but not the entire article - leaving it as a stub with a brief rewritten summary would have been the right way to do it -it shows a complete lack of respect anyway that you don't contact the creator before systemically wiping out articles. ] ]] 21:28, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
:I actually did not list the article for speedy deletion because of notability issues (that would be against policy). I listed it because the initial version was a copyright infringement, uploaded by a single user, criterion G12. agreed that assistant professors in general are not notable--even at universities like Berkeley. academic notability depends primarily upon the publication of work recognized by other experts in the field, and most assistant professors have not done enough. One published book is certainly not enough. If you find any more, put them up for prod as well. Bert, I have recently added the Wolterbot template to a great number of country Wikiprojects' main pages. Could you please run you bot once again, now. I'm aware that the bot will run on a dated database dump, still, the results will still be highly useful. It will provide the country projects a list of articles in dire need of references. It will also identify those unreferenced BLP articles that have already been deleted for being unsourced, not stating importance of subject, housekeeping, and all other sorts of reasons, for which BLP articles presently are summarily deleted with little oversight. We need that list as a basis for transferring articles to the incubator or for requesting undeletions. ] (]) 19:53, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Bert! I'm not sure if you know the answer, but since you do much work related to project-tagging, I thought I'd ask. Thanks!—]&nbsp;•&nbsp;(]); March&nbsp;15, 2010; 15:29 (UTC)
: I'm quite sure that there is no such tool on Misplaced Pages itself, because the software internally "does not know" about project tags at all. It would, in theory, be possible to build such a tool: You'd need to download a database dump to your computer, extract the project--article relations from it, and choose at random from this data. This tool would, however, work on your computer only, and not for other users. For a while, I used a similar approach for tagging articles that had ''no'' project tags on them. --] (]) 22:17, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi Bert,

I see you're busy in real life at the moment, but I'm just letting you know I made a suggestion regarding WolterBot ].
You went to exactly the right place to raise the issue of whether to include the real name of ]; there is no other particular board which would be appropriate. However you might want to go to get a ], or raise an article ] which are ways of getting other editor's opinions on the subject. As there is no legal question of the Florida-based Wikimedia servers being caught by a German judgment, it is not likely that anyone else would get involved.

Cheers, ](]•]) 14:01, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
You can also remove the name yourself if you want to, but be careful not to get into a revert war over it if another editor puts it back. Just contact the editor and discuss the matter on the article talk page. I would also advise you to be prepared to concede the issue if it becomes clear that there is a consensus that it is acceptable to include the name.

== Article Alert Bot ==
The article could still do with expansion; non-German users are unlikely to be familiar with the subject. What sort of humour does he use? Are there additional characters in his shows? ] 23:47, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I just wanted to suggest that you post the code for Article Alert Bot somewhere so that in the event of breakage (such as due to the recent API update) someone can update the code and run a new version without having to bother you about it. This user may have left Misplaced Pages. B. Wolterding has not edited Misplaced Pages for a considerable amount of time. As a result, any requests made here may not receive a response. If you are seeking assistance, you may need to approach someone else.
This user is busy in real life and may not respond swiftly to queries.
From time to time, I clean up my talk page simply by removing items. Discussions here do not usually contain anything of lasting importance, and therefore I do not keep a separate archive. You may find older discussions in the page history .

wolterbot listings have not appeared

I subscribed Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Graphic design to wolterbot's cleanup listings last year. As the "wolterbot coming soon" message is still on the pages, I began to wonder if I subscribed incorrectly, or if something else needs to be done to get things rolling. Thanks for your time and trouble. UnkleFester (talk) 02:35, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

New bot dump.

Just a quick note, there's a new bot dump for Wolterbot to go through. Headbomb {κοντριβς – WP Physics} 01:14, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes, they seem to come in every 5 days now. However I was away from the machine where WolterBot runs. Will try to catch the next "fresh" dump, around Oct 15. --B. Wolterding (talk) 22:46, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Cleanup Listing

Can you have Wolterbot update Misplaced Pages:WikiProject South Dakota/Cleanup listing? I saw that it had updated some but not all of the cleanup pages and was wondering if you could get around to this one? Spiesr (talk) 16:59, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

The subscription template had been removed from the project page, therefore the listings were not updated. I have re-added the subscription, you should see the updated listing soon. --B. Wolterding (talk) 19:56, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Today's update

Thanks for the update. However, I have a question: I noticed that articles from categories "coordinates missing" and "need cleanup" do not appear on the Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Lithuania/Cleanup listing. Is that intentional or some bug? Renata (talk) 00:29, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi Renata. No, that's nothing to do with the Lithuania listing specifically. The bot basically scans Category:Misplaced Pages cleanup categories and its sub-categories; and for some reason, both Category:Articles needing cleanup and the "coordinates missing" categories (Category:Articles needing coordinates) had been removed from there. I have fixed this for both now, but I'm unsure about "Coordinates missing". Are these considered "cleanup"? Should they be in a "cleanup listing"? --B. Wolterding (talk) 22:07, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. I think they should be in the clean up listing. There is something wrong with the articles & they need fixing. I wanted to thank you for making these lists. Very slowly I am working on cleaning up some of the oldest articles in my pet project and your listing is the best! :) Renata (talk) 22:34, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
I don't think that the coord missing is a cleanup item. Lacking that information does not mean the article is really missing anything or that it is bad. Vegaswikian (talk) 01:00, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

There has been a lot of discussion recently about unreferenced BLPs as some admins started summarily deleting them. We were wondering whether:
  1. Wolterbot would be willing to take on some additional projects.
  2. Can WolterBot allow projects to adopt a category or does it only work on the project tags on talkpages?
  3. If a project signs up to Wolterbot will they get their first report based on the November dump or will they not get a report till you next process a database dump?
  4. Could Wolterbot possibly give a little extra emphasis to the unreferenced BLPs to alert projects to the possibility that those articles may be about to be deleted.

Urgent request for bot run

Power.corrupts (talk) 19:53, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Question

Hello B. Wolterding. I added subscription for your bot to the WikiProject Czech Republic. Yesterday, I created page Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Czech Republic/Cleanup listing, where I'm adding unreferenced BLPs. Suddenly, I realized that existing page may confuse your bot (to be honest, I know absolutely nothing about operating a bot). I hope I didn't cause any confusion. If any problem arise just let me know, I'll move the content to my user subpage so we can delete it. Thank you, and apologies for my stupid questions :) --Vejvančický (talk) 15:14, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Apparently the bot hasn't run since November, see Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Contemporary music/Cleanup listing. Would it be possible to get this going again? Thanks. --Kleinzach 11:34, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Do you have to wait for the database dumps?

These lists are very useful, but do you have to wait for the dumps? Can you not have access to the toolserver or some other backdoor? Also, given the recent issues with unreferenced BLPs, these should be highlighted or listed at the top of your list, not hidden in the middle. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 07:18, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately yes, the bot needs database dumps. (And I would rather have it not to, because each time a new dump comes, it takes half a day alone to import the relevant portion of the data into my database.) But the bot is very resource intensive, and needs to run on its own machine. On the toolserver, it would probably block everything else that runs there for several hours. --B. Wolterding (talk) 22:10, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Random question

Hi, Bert! I'm not sure if you know the answer, but since you do much work related to project-tagging, I thought I'd ask. Do you know if there is a tool with the functionality of Special:Random, but limited to a specified WikiProject? If not, do you know if building such a tool is theoretically possible (not necessarily by you :))? Thanks!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); March 15, 2010; 15:29 (UTC)

I'm quite sure that there is no such tool on Misplaced Pages itself, because the software internally "does not know" about project tags at all. It would, in theory, be possible to build such a tool: You'd need to download a database dump to your computer, extract the project--article relations from it, and choose at random from this data. This tool would, however, work on your computer only, and not for other users. For a while, I used a similar approach for tagging articles that had no project tags on them. --B. Wolterding (talk) 22:17, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
This might not be quite what you want, but User:AnomieBOT/RandomPage can be used in specified category combinations (and project banners can and do add categories). Check out how I've used it at Misplaced Pages:Venezuela-related_regional_notice_board#Proposed and Misplaced Pages:Biographies of living persons/randomunreferencedmultiple (the latter showing how to get around the bot's limitation of only being able to have one update entry per page: make subpages and transclude). Rd232 11:58, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Anomiebot is indeed not quite what I had in mind, but it's the closest thing available, so I'll probably make use of it (the database dump will not work for me for reasons outside my control). Thanks much for pointing out that option! Best,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); March 25, 2010; 12:37 (UTC)

Rerun to update now-corrected listing errors

Hi, I've gone through Category:Subscriptions with errors and cleaned up over 100 cleanup listings with errors (mostly subprojects that didn't provide the necessary banner/category details). If you could please run the bot again to update these listings, that would be great. I've deleted the erroneous listing subpages, so you could possibly tell the bot to skip listing pages that exist, if that saves time. Thanks! Rd232 18:16, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions will help you. Rd232 07:19, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
I may have responded in the wrong place. I was specifically interested in boxing articles. I'm afraid my expertise is quite lacking in the areas above.Mk5384 (talk) 07:43, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
OK, I see. I've added a cleanup listing request for WikiProject Boxing; this will be generated the next time the bot is run. Hopefully that won't be too far into the future - but that's entirely up to the busy-in-real-life B. Wolterding. Rd232 11:24, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
Great, thanks! Hope I can help!Mk5384 (talk) 13:34, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Misplaced Pages:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:48, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Idea for WolterBot

Hi Bert,

I see you're busy in real life at the moment, but I'm just letting you know I made a suggestion regarding WolterBot here.

Article Alert Bot

Hello, I just wanted to suggest that you post the code for Article Alert Bot somewhere so that in the event of breakage (such as due to the recent API update) someone can update the code and run a new version without having to bother you about it. Article Alert bot is such a valuable tool for the WikiProjects it would be a shame if it ever had to be discontinued due to people not being able to update the code. Kaldari (talk) 18:36, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

  1. Agreed. I no sooner found out it existed -- and was about to make sure various projects had it -- than I discovered it had been down for months and no one could try to make the necessary adjustments without you. Pretty please? Lawikitejana (talk) 21:37, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
  2. Agreed. It is sorely missed. Arlen22 (talk) 18:46, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

EASY CLEAN UP TASK for http://en.wikipedia.org/Robert_Livingston_(1746-1813)

I don't know how to edit articles but I at least got to this point. Simple format edit needed. One of the .jpeg files is overlapping a text box to its right, obliterating important info. The offending .jpeg is of the painting of the Committee of 5.

ArticleAlert Bot source code

What license do you have on the AA Bot source code? I am wondering how freely I can distribute it. You can reply here or email me with your answer, whichever you want. Arlen22 (talk) 00:24, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

WolterBot replacement

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot. See the tool's wiki page and the tool itself. Svick (talk) 18:09, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

proposed deletion of redirect to Extreme Programming from Testathon

Testathon listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Testathon. Since you had some involvement with the Testathon redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). Martijn Meijering (talk) 20:30, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Zoo Basel

Hi, I've been working at the Zoo Basel page and subpages for quite some time. The goal is to have a higher rating for a better article.

As Zoo Basel is Switzerland's second most visited tourist attraction, I believe it falls well into this project and I would love to hear your comments/suggestions. Thank you!!! (talk) 10:08, 02 August 2012 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
