According to the Virtualology site, which is a copy & attempted revision of the notoriously unreliable ], its revised biographies are arranged separately, as explained there "If you would like to edit this biography please submit a rewritten biography in text form . If acceptable, the new biography will be published above the 19th Century Appleton's Cyclopedia Biography citing the volunteer editor." from, e.g. However, I see no firm indication that this is in fact the case, and would like to see some examples of this. Ones directly from Appletons are not copyvios. Ones modified from Appleton's are copyvios, because the Virtualology site is copyrighted. Unfortunately, the original ones are also known not to be reliable or accurate.( It is additionally plagiarism to use them with just the tag at the bottom, without indicating that the entire article was copied and what the exact source is.) I therefore doubt that any material from this site can ever be incorporated in Misplaced Pages. If unmodified, they are not reliable. If modified, they are not public domain. == Discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Portals ==
I furthermore do not think the material is always being added carefully. there was already a good article on Benjamin Alvord (mathematician) (1813-1884), using Appleton as well as other more authoritative sources. You added an article for his son, Benjamin Alford Jr., unfortunately called Benjamin Alvord (general) --unfortunately because the father was also a general--and copied the information from the bio of his parent as a direct cut and paste from the Appleton web site. (I deleted it as a duplicate, but I can make a copy available--actually I hardly need to, because it is an exact literal character-by-character copy of the one on your own web site without any attempt whatsoever to modify it into the appropriate style for wikipedia--not even inverting the name from its "ALVORD, Benjamin," to what we would call "Benjamin Alvord." Not writing appropriately with respect to style, is a minor matter and easily fixable--though a nuisance if you intend to do many contributions. But you did not check to see that you were copy-pasting about the right person!

] You are invited to join the discussion at ] about changes in the portal ].] (]) 19:06, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
I think this casts doubt on all contributions derived from this source, , and I urge you not to add further material until this has been worked out according to consensus. I apologize if this has sounded a little sharp, but I want to make certain that this gets clarified before things get more complicated. ''']''' (]) 01:20, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

== Discussion of interest? ==
Hi, this article was a wreck. I didn't have much time, but I tried to make some fairly radical changes to bring it back to a decent state, after a series of edits by Attila Lajos (who wrote his PhD thesis on Wallenberg ) that gave the article a rather non-neutral point of view. I hope that by posting here I can draw some attention to it so that someone might be able to give it the time it deserves. –] 21:43, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Currently the page on Henry Schultz, economist, is at ], although there is no page on another person with the same name on WP. ] redirects to ], a page on someone else (not clear who from the article?). I think that the page on the economist should be moved to Henry Schultz with notices at the top of both articles to disambig. BTW, if you check "what links here" on the Henry Shultz page, most links are for the economist through the redirect, so people have a hard time finding the correct page with the current setup ] 09:52, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

== Did the German Scholar Dr. Karl Reinhardt have child relatives at the end of World War II? ==

What happened to the children who became orphans as a result of, or during, WWII? Were any children sent without first obtaining official documentation? If the answer to those questions are "yes," then consider the possibility of the following:
Hallo, when I nested the templates at ], the info about automatic stub designation in the Biography Project template didn't shrink. Should it? ] 13:30, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

A child comes to the United States of America at the end of WWII. Upon arrival, he tells his name to an American (who spells it incorrectly) to later be placed on an official document of identification and given to the child to be used as his official I.D. throughout his life. That name is then passed along to his children. So on and so forth.
== ] ==

This is my first attempt at searching for my family heritage via philosophy and public forum. Please be kind.

My name is Latrisha Ann Clinard. I was removed from the custody of my biological parents in the United States of America when I was only 2, and they died before I could meet them.
David Clinard, the brother of my father, Gary Clinard, told me a few things that might have helped me learn who I am and where I come from. Firstly, the pronunciation of my name is "Klein-art" instead of "Clunard," as I had always thought. Secondly, my father had a very high IQ. I can't remember the exact number, but I believe it was around 130-140. I do not know what that means exactly, but I remember mine being above average. I also know I am partly German, and according to my father, my name was misspelled at birth.
There is no record I can find with information on my father's sires. The government buried him because I was still a minor in foster care and no one else claimed him.
The only other information I have is that the mother of David Clinard is Joan Lohse; she is nearly 100 years old, but she is not the mother of Gary Clinard (my father). They have the same father, but I do not know his name.

I am beginning to consider that my father may not have known who his father was, because his father may not have been a very good one as a result of his father's father's potential involvement in World War II. ] (]) 21:03, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

Bahgat Saber Image

Please add an image for the “activist” Bahgat Saber as it need an image. Image Example Cloarui (talk) 13:12, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

Question: @Cloarui: Do you have access to a image that of Bahgat Saber that has an acceptable license for Wikimedia Commons or meets English Misplaced Pages's fair use criteria?
There is nothing from soundcloud.com/bahgat-saber-497387947 or soundcloud.com/pages/copyright that exempts this content from copyright restictions, & soundcloud.com/terms-of-use#your-content clearly states that the Any and all Content is uploaded, owned and controlled solely by you (the uploader), and not by SoundCloud. Peaceray (talk) 19:47, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
These copyright terms is for music, not for personal photos no mention of that was there. Therefore I think the image on there fits the criteria. Cloarui (talk) 16:46, 4 December 2024 (UTC)

Could {{Person categories}} (aka {{L}} ) be adapted for Drafts?

It has been suggested that this template could be useful for editors working on biographies as Drafts, with some modification.

Please comment at Template talk:Person categories#Adapt for use in Drafts?. Thanks. PamD 09:46, 12 December 2024 (UTC)

Folks, see Misplaced Pages:Village_pump_(miscellaneous)#Suggestion_to_rename_many_criticism/controversies_articles_to_include_both_concepts_in_name. Primarily concerns organizations/companies and biographies. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:44, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

Did the German Scholar Dr. Karl Reinhardt have child relatives at the end of World War II?

What happened to the children who became orphans as a result of, or during, WWII? Were any children sent without first obtaining official documentation? If the answer to those questions are "yes," then consider the possibility of the following:

A child comes to the United States of America at the end of WWII. Upon arrival, he tells his name to an American (who spells it incorrectly) to later be placed on an official document of identification and given to the child to be used as his official I.D. throughout his life. That name is then passed along to his children. So on and so forth.

2604:5500:502C:F400:349A:3D9F:DCCC:FED3 (talk) 21:03, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Paul Steed

Notice

The article Paul Steed has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Aside from being created back when it was possible for IPs to do so, this page received the notability tag immediately after it was unprotected. I wouldn't go so far as to call Steed a nobody, but I believe he is Fandom-Wiki-level material that isn't notable enough for a page on a site as generalized as Misplaced Pages.

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 100.7.34.111 (talk) 15:00, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

Using LinkedIn for some biography details

If secondary sources don't cover person's education in details (e. g., major/minor or honors), but person's LinkedIn has them, is it acceptable to use latter as a source? 5.178.188.143 (talk) 11:31, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

See WP:RSPLINKEDIN. The account would have to be verified and the content would have to comply with policies on for BLPs and self-published sources. Potentially promotional content such as honors would probably not be appropriate without independent sourcing. Going into too much detail may also violate WP:DUE without independent sourcing to show why significant enough to include in the article. – notwally (talk) 19:46, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
