This infobox used to say I like to keep conversations together but that was before I accumulated 3 million talk pages in my watchlist. So now I see the point, if you post on the other guys talkpage, he gets a "new message" bar. Yes, I know, I can clean out my watchlist but it fills up again almost immediately, last year I did one edit every two months, now I'm doing them every two minutes. If you've bothered to read this far, basically I'm saying this infobox no longer has any purpose and you've wasted your time reading it - go ahead and do whatever you like.

I didn't delete your reference. I integrated it into the article using the appropriate template ({{Cite web}}), which - as you can now observe - has a function to link to both the original and archived versions. Yes, I had seen that you had used the "cite" template. No problem, but that was not the issue. Perhaps you had not noticed, but not only did I create an archive (yes I created it, did not just find it), but I also repaired the original link. Actually the repair was quite simple as all the site has done is changed the file type from .html to .php. If you substitute .php in your template you will find that the link now works. I suggest you still retain the link to the archive though, in case the site moves or changes the page again.

I apologise; I hadn't noticed that. I've since noted it and changed it back to the original. With {{cite}}, it is deemed superfluous to have an archive link when the current link works (even though there is a function to add archival quite easily, so I've simply changed it to the original using the link to the *.php page as you correctly noted is the now-live link. Misplaced Pages:Citing sources encourages putting the archive URL in the reference. I certainly don't see anywhere saying it is superfluous. Kind of makes it hard to find if you were to need it don't you think?

If the user adding the material to Misplaced Pages is the original author of the material, then they need to prove that (the instructions are here). If the copyright issue is cleared up then the material cannot be speedy deleted but we may end up at another deletion discussion if someone still doesn't think the festival is notable. Ye Art Cordially Invited to the Annex

Hello, My good Fellow, listen and I shalt telleth Ye a Tale of a Wiki that well comes All Manner of Articles relating to Fiction. What is This wonderful Place of Fantasy, You ask? It is the Annex, Haven to All fiction-related Refugee Articles from Misplaced Pages.

Before nominating or proposing a fiction-related Article for Deletion, It is My sincerest Hope that Ye import It to the Annex. Why do This, You wonder? Individuals have dedicated an enormous Amount of Time to writing These Articles, and ’twould be a Pity for the Information to Vanish unto the Oblivion where only Administrators could see Them.

Here is a Step-by-Step Process of how to Bringeth Articles into the Annex:

1. Ye shall need at least three Browser Tabs or Windows open. For the first Tab or Window, go to Special:Export. For the second, go here. (If Ye have not an Account at Wikia, then create One.) Do whatever Ye want for the third.
2. Next, open the Program known as Notepad. If Ye haveth It not, then open WordPad. Go to “Save as,” and for “Encoding,” select either “Unicode” or “UTF-8.” For “Save as type,” select “All Files.” For “File name,” input “export.xml” and save it. Leave the window open.
3. Next, go to the Special:Export Window at Misplaced Pages, and un-check the two small Boxes near the “Export” Button. Input the Name of the Misplaced Pages Article which Ye wish to import to the Annex into the large Field, and click “Export.”
4. Right-click on the Page full of Code which appears, and click on “View Source” or “View Page Source” or any Option with similar wording. A new Notepad Window called “index” or something similar should appear. Press Ctrl+A to highlight all the text then Ctrl+C to copy it. Close your “index” Window, and go to the Notepad “export.xml” Window. Press Ctrl+V to paste the text there, and then save it by pressing Ctrl+S.
5. Now go to the Special:Import Window over at the Annex. Click on “Browse…” and select the “export.xml” File. At last, click on “Upload File,” and you are done, My Friend! However, if It says 100 Revisions be imported, Ye be not quite finished just yet. Go back to Misplaced Pages’s Special:Export, and leave only the “Include only the current revision, not the full history” Box checked. Export That, copy the Page Source, close the “index” Window, and go to the “export.xml” Window. Press Ctrl+A to highlight the Code all ready There, press “backspace” to erase It, and press Ctrl+V to pasteth the new Code There. Press Ctrl+S to save It, then upload once more to the Annex. Paste {{Misplaced Pages|{{PAGENAME}}}} at the Bottom of the imported Article at the Annex, and Ye art now finally done! Keepeth the “export.xml” File for future use.

Black holes

Have you cleared up that doubt about the formation of black holes you said you had? The one that if black holes are constantly sucking matter but we, from our frame of reference, would see that matter just touching the event horizon forever, how can they actually grow? Not really, I might take it up with some of the editors who actually know about the mathematics of the subject one day. But for now I am staying away from the Helpdesk question as this discussion is not really answering the OPs question. Of course, none of this would exclude black holes being formed in some other way, it is only gravitational collapse of a star that is at issue here. SpinningSpark 11:55, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Not sure why you commented as you did on my user talk page. Yes, I posted a link to the Wiki trust site, but I don't know anything about the "Wiki Trust Mailing Group" that you mention, and I'm not associated in any way with the work being done on this concept. So Colin's comment (that you cited) about language links isn't really relevant to me, I think.

antilogarithm

antilogarithm should redirect to logarithm or to exponential function rather than to exponentiation, because it is the inverse to a logarthm, and the same thing as an exponential function, but Nth root is the inverse to exponentiation. 1989/S Club

"Kind of almost an article" still isn't an article. The main point of the rule as I understand it isn't for verifiability reasons, it's to avoid a slippery slope with notability. Seeing as how there are even arguments not to allow every person with an article on the birth lists, letting those without articles is sketchy. Then there's the issue of how much about them needs to be in another article to qualify, which is subjective. Those lists are already quite long and will likely be trimmed in a couple years anyway. --TM 06:47, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

I noticed the article from the AlexNewArtBot results for Wisconsin. That article is quite excellent! I have nominated it for WP:DYK under the 12 April section. I used a hook that includes that he helped establish that it is impossible to completely eliminate noise. Could you add an inline citation to that sentence in the article? Thanks for welcoming me. So the reason I did not put the reference on the thunderstorm page is that I did not have time at the moment (I am 14 yrs. old, as you can guess I was in school at the moment, and not really having time to edit anymore). I was wondering if you could tell me how to get the user box's (like the ones that you have on your user page). And yes, it should have been P(av) I copied that out wrongly. I can't get the math symbols to work so I tried to put it in words. Well, I'm sort of going through the PD-user category and tagging all potentially useful images that I find with that, and IFDing or speedying non-useful ones. I don't know, it's just sort of a little project I'm doing, because for some reason having free images here and not on Commons bothers me. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
• That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Re:Name changes

Hi Spinningspark - thanks for your recent note on my talk page (I have replied to it there). I'd like to talk to you about Mihajlo Idvorski Pupin, for which you reverted to the full middle name page title. Beyond what I explained on my talk page, there are several things that I'd like to point out in this particular case:

1. The middle name is sometimes written as Idvorsky vs. Idvorski - choosing one in particular doesn't make sense, where a middle initial seems to be a better fit.
2. The page here on the IEEE Edison Medal clearly uses a middle initial, not a middle name, as an initial is common for a U.S. scientist/engineer.
3. Google hits for a full middle name "Mihajlo Idvorski Pupin" yields significantly less hits than the middle initial version.

Based on the reasons above, I'd like to move the page back to "Mihajlo I. Pupin". I'd like to hear your thoughts. Thanks! --Jiuguang Wang (talk) 20:18, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Math notation style

Hello. You might want to notice these differences:

because C (or n-C for higher dimensions)

because C (or n − C for higher dimensions)

Generally in non-TeX mathematical notation, variables get italicized (but digits and punctuation don't) a minus sign differs from a hyphen, and spaces precede and follow "+", "=", minus signs, "<", etc. Hence n-dimensional, with n in italics, but 5-dimensional, with no italics. All this matches TeX style; in TeX it's taken care of by the software. (But "inline", as opposed to "displayed" TeX often is not a good idea in Misplaced Pages since it gets misaligned or fails to match sizes, etc.) See Misplaced Pages:Manual of Style (mathematics). Hi!

May be you got me a bit wrong there. I've ended my second reply on the note that since the asker is not really asking for an advice, the entire thread becomes quite justified. I was not being personal in any way. But, I'd still personally feel that may be we all should just be a bit circumspect about such issues. I mean if something goes wrong, there's some chance of landing in trouble. As regards my reply, I answered it in a very scientific context, i.e., if a given situation is possible or not, and not in terms of "you do this, or you do that".

But, still if my pointing out that clause (WP:Point) irritated you, am sorry about that.

Dealing with vandals

Since you have helped me out with two past vandals, I;ll ask you waht to do with a worse third one. 67.162.171.246 is currently adding advertisment similar, In-Universe style content to Men in Black: Alien Attack. Evreytime his edits are reverted by me, he reverts them. He has also vandalized My talk page, and his own talk page. He has been given three warnings already, and is now threatening to revert on the MIB page once more. What should I do on this issue?--Snowman Guy (talk) 22:58, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages's conventions

Hello. I moved composite image filters (plural) to composite image filter (singular) for the usual reason and then I started trying to fixed the links to the plural title. In the course of this I noticed that in a number of articles you're not adhering to the usual formatting and style conventions of Misplaced Pages:Manual of Style (mathematics). Could you look at (1) that manual, and (2) the edits I recently did on those pages, and (3) my comments in an earlier section of this talk page above. Thanks. Ok, first of all the date removal was a (minor) oversight on my part, I was contemplating moving the tag to try to encourage the much needed improval of that article, then reconsidered and the date was lost at some point. Just to put your mind at ease, I am well aware of the purpose and addition of date tags. As for the redlink, perhaps it could stay, it seemed a little messy at the time especially as a relatively small scottish firm, I judged that it would probably be better stylistically for there not to be a link. As a very very minor change with little consequence, I didn't write out my train of thought in the summary. Electronics Project

Just wanted to say thanks for the welcome. Unfortunately I don't have nearly the education level that I'm seeing of some of the individuals in the project, but I am more than willing to help. Most of my experience and education has been in Satellite Communications as an operator/maintainer. It's not often that I have to do component-level repairs, but I've been trained in basic electronics engineering and theory, so I figured I could be of some help. Thanks again for the welcome. You comment well, delete also . . . comes under being disruptive to make a point WP:POINT and WP:Other stuff exists, both bad arguments on Misplaced Pages. The purpose of a navigation template is to help people, well, navigate, around the articles. It is completely useless to put anything in there that does not link to an article. If you think that there is enough material to write a meaningful article on Calender Cube then go ahead, but in my opinion you only have enough for a stub and it will probably get deleted because I doubt that there are any reliable sources WP:RS that you can cite as references for its notability WP:NOTE. You would be better off mentioning it in an article which already exists, such as Combination puzzles. And please GET AN ACCOUNT. SpinningSpark 10:13, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

There are a lot of sources about calendar cube, ad example there is a patent , I think, ad example, is possible explane the disposition of the months and the days. If you belive that is a good idea to create a new article do it, unfortunately my english language is bad.

A patent in itself does not make it notable in the Misplaced Pages sense (but it helps). The Rubik cube is widely written about in the press, there are peer reviewed mathematical papers about it and there is a recognised sporting organisation. Can you say any of that about Calender cube? Can you point to a single newspaper article about it? (not adverts). I still think that a mention in another article is better. SpinningSpark 15:27, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice
