'''The Pennsylvania State Highways WikiProject'''

Welcome to the '''Pennsylvania task force''' of WikiProject U.S. Roads! If you would like to help, please jump in and start adding or editing.

==Scope== ==Scope==
This ] aims primarily to encourage participation in creating or expanding articles about ] in ]. This project also aims to establish standards relating to the display of information in these articles. This task force aims primarily to encourage participation in creating or expanding articles about ], scenic highways, US or Interstate routes, historic tollroads, and other historic routes in ].

==Structure==
An article describing the logic and basic history of the Pennsylvania Highway System is necessary to accompany the current ] and ] article. This article should feature information regarding the state's Freeway and Expressway System, Scenic Highways, and other worthy material.
Articles on signed traffic routes are to be named "Pennsylvania Route <i>N</i>" (where <i>N</i> is the route number per ]. Shields are available for all signed traffic routes in the format PA-X.svg, where X is the route number. All Pennsylvania road articles follow ].

===Major intersections/exit list===
===Routes Worthy of Articles===
The {{tl|PAint}} family of templates may be used to generate a ]-compliant junction list for at-grade highways. It may also be used to create the list for at-grade highways with limited-access portions without exit numbers. If the limited-access portion does have exit numbers, use {{tl|jctint}} with the exit parameter.
The following highways can have entire articles dedicated to them:

Further instructions can be found at {{tl|Jctint}}. The easiest way to generate ] and ] compliant entries for the road parameter is to use {{tl|jct}}; see that template for usage instructions. Types that the template recognizes include "PA" (state routes), "US" (U.S. Highways), and "I" (Interstate Highways).
*Routes that are constructed, traversable, state-maintained, and signed with its own route number.
*Routes that are partly constructed or partly signed.
*Deleted routes with significant information worthy of an article.
*Interstates that run entirely in Pennsylvania (mostly spur and loop routes). Ideally, these should also be part of this WikiProject.

==How you can help==
''For routes that have been entirely deleted and whose number has not been reused, these can be merged onto a single article, Deleted Pennsylvania state highways.''
Suggestions on how you can help are listed below. Click the "watch" link in the upper right corner of the box to add the to do list to your watchlist, keeping you up-to-date on the latest items needing attention in WP:USRD/PA.

For the above parameters here's what you should fill in:
* '''state:''' '''PA'''
* '''type:''' '''PA''' for state routes
* '''route:''' This is the number of the route the article is about
* '''length_mi:''' This is the length of the route in miles. If you specify beyond integers (i.e. add a decimal value) you will need to set the following paramater, length_round
* '''length_round:''' If your value for ''length_mi'' is a whole number, you can omit this. Otherwise it needs to be set to the decimal precision of the ''length_mi'' paramater.
* '''length_ref:''' To do what a good article writer should, provide your reference for the length of the route using standard &lt;ref&gt; method. For example: <nowiki><ref name="pah"></ref></nowiki>
* '''established:''' This is the date the route was commissioned or assigned to its current alignment
* '''direction_a:''' This should be either '''south''' or '''west''' to keep in accordance with the U.S. Roads parent project, which lists termini and junctions in progression travelling from West to East and South to North.
* '''starting_terminus:''' This is where the route begins and is either at the '''southern''' terminus or '''western''' terminus.
* '''junction:''' Any major junctions - junctions with limited-access highways, Interstates and U.S. highways - along the route should be listed here. If more than one is listed, use a &lt;br&gt; to break the lines
* '''direction_b:''' The opposite of ''direction_a''
* '''ending_terminus:''' where the route ends, in accordance with the guidelines set forth with starting_terminus
* '''counties:''' a list of counties that the route enters
* '''previous_type:''' This is the type of route that preceeds the current one in the system. The value for this is: '''Interstate''', '''US''', or '''PA''' for Interstates, U.S. Routes and other Pennsylvania routes, respectively. '''Only current routes or decommissioned routes with articles should be included in the browse.'''
* '''previous_route:''' The number of the route preceding this one
* '''next_type:''' Same as ''previous_type'' but for the route following this one
* '''next_route:''' The number of the route succeeding this one

{{WikiProject U.S. Roads|state=PA|class=NA|category=no}}
'''Important notes regarding the routebox:''' For the previous and next route types, remember to list them in order of priority. If you do an infobox for PA 79, the following route would be I-80, ''not'' PA-80. PA-80 would ''succeed'' I-80 as there is no U.S. 80 in Pennsylvania. The precedence is as follows: U.S. Interstate, U.S. Route, Pennsylvania route. Also, when putting images up for Interstate, US Route, and PA route shields in the infobox, all 1 and 2 digit routes are to be 20 pixels (20px) in size, and all 3 digit routes are to be 25 pixels (25px) in size.

Place this template at the top of all talk pages of articles within the scope of this project. "<code>|PARD-SA=<date featured (month year)></code>" shall be added to the banner on the talk pages of all former PASH selected articles. See {{tl|WikiProject U.S. Roads}} for all of the parameters that the template accepts.
So, by completing the infobox as follows, you'll get a routebox like the one in ].
<pre width=100%>
{{Infobox road

===Main section=== ===User templates===
{{tlu|Misplaced Pages:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Pennsylvania/Userbox}}
Untitled section that describes the route. Depending on the route this section may just name the direction (W/E or S/N) and termination points, or may go into considerable detail. However, the majority of detail, such as progress by town or county, should be reserved for the next section.
{|

|{{Misplaced Pages:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Pennsylvania/Userbox}}
===Route description===
This section is for describing the route itself and its progression across the counties of Pennsylvania. This section should be broken up by counties using third-level headlines. If the route is contained entirely in one county, then it is not necessary to give said county a third-level headline. Regardless of the route's length, progression should be described from south to north, west to east.

Included major attractions along the road.

===Communities along the route===
List of communities, which can range from small hamlets to large cities, along the route. Depending on the length of the route this may include only major communities, or just the few hamlets the route passes through. A citation is needed for this info, and it should be placed in an infobox, as shown below:
<pre width=100%>
{|class="infobox" width="230px"
!style="background: #ccf;"|<big>Communities</big>

==Categories==
For routes that are limited-access, use the code below.
All traffic routes are to be placed in <nowiki>]</nowiki> where nnn is the three-digit route number. For quadrant routes, use <nowiki>]</nowiki> where nnnn is the four-digit route number and X is the county the route is in.
<pre width=100%>

!style="background: #ccf;"|<big>Communities</big>

Routes that exist in only one county should also have "Transportation in X County, Pennsylvania" as a category (example: since ] only exists in McKean County, it would have ] as a category). The addition of these categories to multi-county routes is optional, but recommended, especially if a "Transportation in X County, Pennsylvania" category exists.
See ] for a good example of this usage.

===History===

History of the route. This can be as brief as a sentence or as extensive as a few paragraphs.

===Major intersections ''or'' Exit list===

====Junction table====
This section is for listing all of the intersections, both actual junctions and over/underpasses, that this route has with PA traffic routes (1-999), Interstates and U.S. routes.

This is the basic syntax you need to get a complete junction table on the article page, just place this in the Major Intersections section and fill in the variables. An example of a complete table is at ].

For additional entries, use this:
<pre width=100%>
{{PAint
|location=
|lspan=
|type=
|mile=
|road=
|notes=
}}
</pre>

For the above parameters, here's what you should fill in:
*'''county:''' name of the county ''without wiki markup'' - the county is automatically linked by the template
*'''cspan:''' number of rows the county spans - if value=1, omit this parameter
*'''location:''' name of the location ''without wiki markup'' - the location is automatically linked by the template
*'''lspan:''' number of rows the location spans - if value=1, omit this parameter
*'''area:''' (optional for use with location) used to disambiguate between town, city, village, etc.
*'''ctdab:''' (optional for use with location) further disambiguation by county (] in ] is an example where this tag would be used)
*'''location_special:''' (replaces location) location where the junction is located - use for custom entries only. Wiki markup is required.
*'''type:''' noaccess, mplex (for concurrency), decomd (for decommissioned), unbuilt, closed
*'''mile:''' milepost of the junction. If unknown, leave blank. To request mileposts, ] to JohnnyAlbert10.
*'''road:''' road that the article route intersects at this junction. To generate the proper coding, use <nowiki>{{subst:PAint/XX}}</nowiki>, where XX is:
**PAint/PA:<nowiki>{{subst:PAint/PA|(route number)|(size of shield in pixels)}}</nowiki>
**PAint/US:<nowiki>{{subst:PAint/US|(route number)|(size of shield in pixels)}}</nowiki>
**PAint/IN:<nowiki>{{subst:PAint/IN|(Interstate number)|(size of shield in pixels)}}</nowiki>.
*'''street:''' (optional for use with location) Used to break up monotony in sections where the route has the same town name six or more times over (see ] for an example of appropriate usage).
*'''notes:''' any notes regarding that junction.

Any parameter which is empty can be omitted.

Welcome to the Pennsylvania task force of WikiProject U.S. Roads! If you would like to help, please jump in and start adding or editing.

Quick links:
List of Pennsylvania State Routes (project list page)
Redirect completion list

Scope

This task force aims primarily to encourage participation in creating or expanding articles about state highways, scenic highways, US or Interstate routes, historic tollroads, and other historic routes in Pennsylvania.

Structure

Articles on signed traffic routes are to be named "Pennsylvania Route N" (where N is the route number per WP:USSH. Shields are available for all signed traffic routes in the format PA-X.svg, where X is the route number. All Pennsylvania road articles follow WP:USRD/STDS.

Major intersections/exit list

The {{PAint}} family of templates may be used to generate a MOS:RJL-compliant junction list for at-grade highways. It may also be used to create the list for at-grade highways with limited-access portions without exit numbers. If the limited-access portion does have exit numbers, use {{jctint}} with the exit parameter.

Further instructions can be found at {{Jctint}}. The easiest way to generate MOS:RJL and WP:USRD/STDS compliant entries for the road parameter is to use {{jct}}; see that template for usage instructions. Types that the template recognizes include "PA" (state routes), "US" (U.S. Highways), and "I" (Interstate Highways).

How you can help

Suggestions on how you can help are listed below. Click the "watch" link in the upper right corner of the box to add the to do list to your watchlist, keeping you up-to-date on the latest items needing attention in WP:USRD/PA.

Resources

If you are aware of any new resources, please add them to this list. On behalf of the USRD Pennsylvania subpage: Thank You!

All traffic routes are to be placed in ] where nnn is the three-digit route number. For quadrant routes, use ] where nnnn is the four-digit route number and X is the county the route is in.

Routes that exist in only one county should also have "Transportation in X County, Pennsylvania" as a category (example: since Pennsylvania Route 546 only exists in McKean County, it would have Category:Transportation in McKean County, Pennsylvania as a category). The addition of these categories to multi-county routes is optional, but recommended, especially if a "Transportation in X County, Pennsylvania" category exists.
