== A common problem == | |||
==Re: Andrew Ogilvy== | |||
Hi, I really don't know a ton about what constitutes notability, and I don't really follow basketball. In case you asked because of my recent creations, the college football players I've been adding are all almost assured to be drafted in the ] - some even in the first round. So that's how I know ''they'' are notable enough. Sorry I can't be more help.►''']''''']'' 18:02, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
:This is not an appropriate speedy. A7 is ''not'' about notability - it's about high school kids making articles about themselves or other such vanity articles. The assertion that someone is a DI football or basketball player is itself an assertion of significance and if you believe it should be deleted, you should use the {{tl|prod}} template or take it to ] if the prod is contested. --] (]) 18:09, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
::], the highest level of ] competition. Not all DI players are notable by any stretch of the imagination, but unless someone was doing something ] like creating articles on every backup longsnapper in the ], it's not an obvious case and needs to go to AFD. Speedy deletion is only for obviously inappropriate articles that are indisputable. In the case of a major college football or basketball player, it's disputable. The longsnapper may not be notable and the walkon practice squad point guard may not be notable, but a starter for a major team is notable. So something like this needs to go to AFD if there's an issue. (In this case, there isn't - this player is clearly notable.) --] (]) 18:20, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

== Re: to {{user|Djbj16}} ==
Thank you for the suggestion. I noticed that you hope to be an administrator. So I would like to return the favor and make a suggestion for you. If you get your wish, I'd like to suggest that you break out of the mold that is prevalent among some (but not all) administrators: irrational tolerance of editors who have made more than a few edits and persistently fail not only to abide by Misplaced Pages's guidelines for a quality encyclopedia, but to even bother to read them. I think '''new''' editors should be given some flexibility. But editors who have been repeatedly warned and fail to make the feeblest attempt to comply result in a poor quality encyclopedia. So we end up with happy editors who continue to blunder (or bulldoze) their way through countless articles. That's why Misplaced Pages, although unparalleled in breadth and depth of coverage, is woefully inadequate when it comes to reliability and quality of many individual articles. The administrator system helps, but unfortunately doesn't help nearly enough. That having been said, best wishes in your attempt to be an administrator. ] (]) 20:32, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

==User name== | |||
People frequently search for his name on the web.
My name is not at all random, at least not any more than your name (WODUP). WODUP is not an English word but just looks like several random letters to me. I'm sure this isn't the case in regards to your name as the letters W, O, D, U, & P have some significance for you. Likewise my name, Askdnapn39nfkjfen, holds significance for me. Chalk it up to chaos theory, but order is usually found in seemingly randomness. the Ask-dna part should be obvious: I believe that we can learn a great deal about humans, both physically and psychologically by unlocking the secrets of human DNA, thus the Ask dna. The P & N are my initials, my age is 39, and the other letters are the first initials of my children. At first I tried to create a username that was a single English word but all my options were taken so I decided to be a little creative. I'm truly sorry if you thought my username is random, but as you can see, it simply is not. {{User|Askdnapn39nfkjfen}} 11:53, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Dear Wikipedist editor, I want to submit to your attention an our common problem: disruptive contributions and edit warring operated by user Derek farn (talk). This latter shows systematically a provoking behaviour and lacking of respect for other people’s work, typical of vandalism. I’ve sent this communication to many people having the same problem in order to organize a collective protest/action request directed to e.g. the Arbitration Committee or Requests for comment/User conduct (this latter procedure requires the participation of at least two users) or to the Misplaced Pages Community. If you agree with this initiative please contact me at this dedicated email address: clipeaster-1971 AT yahoo DOT com. In order to avoid creating of a forum section dedicated to Derek farn I suggest you to delete this communication once you’ve read it and, then, be in contact via email. Any suggestion are welcomed. I look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Structuralgeol (talk) 18:17, 15 July 2011 (UTC).
- As another user pointed out to me that suggesting to be in contact outside wikipedia is not a correct way, for transparency reasons, so I conclude that we need to correspond via talk page. Best regards, Structuralgeol (talk) 02:35, 16 July 2011 (UTC).
- You are correct. Also, I find nothing waranting any extreme measures. Perhaps you should give more time to the arbitration process, or accept that not everyone holds the same views as you and work toward a compromise. Cheers! - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 18:05, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Undeletion request
Hi, I noticed that in 2008 you deleted a redirect entitled "Game Informer Issue 181: Gears of War 2". From the sound it in this discussion, I believe that the information from this former article would be perfect for the WP:VG Reference Library - a non-mainspace project that is ongoing here. Is there any way to undelete the page so that I can transfer the information here? Alternately if you can still see the information from that former page, you may be able to make a snap determination as to whether the information would be of any help at the Reference Library. Thanks. -Thibbs (talk) 15:49, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for September 4
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Polyarchy, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Kratos and Poly (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

deletion of
I believe that we should re-review the deletion of an article on a very notable scientist in the field of computer science and natural language processing.
He is the author of seminal books on entire fields, like Introduction to Information Retrieval (a book mentioned in English Misplaced Pages 23 times ).
His peers are generally listed in Misplaced Pages, and not briefly, see Prabhakar Raghavan, Andrew Ng etc.
He is mentioned in articles like International Conference on Intelligent Text Processing and Computational Linguistics, Studies in Natural Language Processing and Mary Dalrymple and cited in others, for example Information retrieval
He leads the Stanford NLP Group and is behind the Stanford CoreNLP software suite which is used widely in industry for NLP problems like machine translation. His work has been cited 44K+ times, mostly in the last 5 years. People frequently search for his name on the web.
Also, currently Chris manning redirects to a court case where a much less notable barrister with that name was involved.
Thanks for the welcome in 2008
Hi Cobaltbluetony, hope you're well. Just realized I never thanked you back in 2008 when you welcomed me to Misplaced Pages - so thanks! samtar 13:22, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
ArbCom elections are now open!
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in more than one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Misplaced Pages:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.
