== Peter's sex change == == One off gag job ==
My additions to the jobs that Peter has had have been reverted. I had added that he had jobs as a New England Patriot and was a knight. These weren't part of the usual gag jobs that were used for a cutaway gag. While they weren't lasting occupations (an episode each), they were important parts of the actual narrative of the episodes. As such, they were not gags. -] (]) 05:07, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
:They certainly weren't just "gags", though I don't know if one-episode-only jobs tend to be included. '''] (] / ])''' 05:15, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
:"1-off gags" is admittedly an oversimplification of what they were (we get plenty of attempts to list 1-offs in these articles, so it was an over-quick assessment). As far as I understand, minor (ie: non-recurring) factoids like these are usually not included in these articles. Willing to wait for more input/opinions, but I think the entries in question are not notable enough to be included. ] (]) 05:21, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

::I don't know if this is an WP:UNDUE issue. However, the only point I am making, without getting all wikilawyer here, is that these one episode jobs were part of the overall narrative of the family guy world. Would they be listed if they were a two episode job? -] (]) 04:11, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

I think I know what episode he's talking about, but I'm pretty sure it was meant as a throw-away gag. Just about every other flashback of Peter's past seems to indicate that he was born male (e.g., when his life flashes before his eyes in "And the weiner is" ] 28 June 2005 21:30 (UTC)

Wait. Yes, his full name was revealed in an episode. And he ''did'' change his name. ] (]) 08:23, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
Look, in the recent new episode on FOX, Peter says that he remembers when he became a man. Then, there's a flashback where a doctor says "the operation was a success" and "what do you want to go by now?". Then he says he wants to go by "Peter". That's where I got the impression that he had a sex change.- ] 29 June 2005 00:46 (UTC)

::We can put flashbacks into two categories depending on their effect on continuity: binding and non-binding. We call a flashback binding if the writers make an effort to follow its continuity in subsequent episodes, and non-binding if the writers ignore it. An example of a binding flashback is when Peter meets Lois at Cherrywood. Later episodes obey that continuity and elaborate it. An example of a non-binding flashback is Lois as a young girl shown as a circus freak. No episode afterwards refers to that.

There is only one episode which mentions this as his middle name, once, the same as there is only one episode which makes jokes about his actual name being Justin. Therefore, we should just stick to the name the character is most known by, as this proves there is elasticity to his name because...it's a cartoon ] (]) 22:07, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
::So when it comes to Peter's sex change flashback, it doesn't fit with other flashbacks of Peter's past. He's always been a man in those flashbacks. For a comedy, it would be too much work to try to make the sex change flashback fit into Peter's back story. Of course, the writers could simply ignore all the continuity so far and write Peter a new back story, one in which he was born a woman. But we'll just have to wait and see if the writers take that route. ] 29 June 2005 21:08 (UTC)
:I completely disagree. This is an absurd policy. Any name which was mentioned in the show as being his legal name should be mentioned as one of his names in the article. "Peter Griffin (or Justin Peter Griffin, or Peter Lowebrau Griffin)" would be a perfectly reasonable opening for this article, with references to the episodes mentioning each name. Also, both names (and any future that are mentioned) should be listed under "Full Name" in the character info, where it would also make sense to list "Kichwa Tembo" and "Gggwggwg" as names he has gone by briefly. Same with "Megatron Griffin" in the Meg article. I'm not sure who unilaterally decided to change obvious and common-sense policies on character names on Misplaced Pages just for Family Guy, but they are wrong, and your "therefore" argument is utter nonsense: plenty of critical facts about fictional characters across all forms of media are only mentioned once. Even if it were a "cutaway gag" (it wasn't, it was featured heavily in the main plotline of an entire episode), there is no argument to support not listing it as one of his full names.] (]) 06:31, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Comparing Peter Griffin to other cartoon characters is ill-informed because the character is an exaggeration of the all-american dad. Before Homer Simpson there was Archie Bunker, Ralph Kramden etc....
In summation, Peter Griffin is based on the general stereotype of an american dad etc....

:I think the question here is whether real life African Americans want to accept Peter Griffin as a fictional black man? I suspect the answer to this is no. From what has been revealed of Peter's fictional genealogy, Peter is only fractionally black. I think this statement in the comparison section "(The show itself also shows God, which is not allowed by the Ten Commandments.)" is a little non-neutral becuase it applies only to a select group of Christians who believe that all icons of God are impermissible, as opposed to the mainstream view that permits icons of God in movies, storybooks, religious icons, etc. Maybe just saying "Family Guy shows the actual image of God which is rare in television programming" or something like that.] 04:16, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

Is it just me or does the paragraph covering all the 1-off/cut scenes where someone else does Peter's voice seem a bit WP:TRIVIA? DP76764 (Talk) 21:00, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

Peter's Children.

Shouldn't Bertram be credited as one of Peter's kids? - The Real One Returns (talk) 19:22, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Given his few, one-off-natured appearances, the general consensus has been to not include him. See the FAQ on this talk page for more input. DP76764 (Talk) 19:27, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
Where is the consensus to not include him? -Xcuref1endx (talk) 21:26, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
It's in an archive page somewhere now; I don't remember which article though (this one, List of Family Guy characters or where). DP76764 (Talk) 21:51, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
Just checked the archives, I couldn't find a consensus anywhere. -Xcuref1endx (talk) 23:17, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
Bertram should indeed be created as one of Peter's children. While Peter himself seems oblivious to his existence, several episodes of the show confirm that he is absolutely is.12.199.22.98 (talk) 17:38, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Shouldn't Peter Griffin Jr. be considered one of Peter's kids? Y'know, the one Peter shook to death? - ass455 (talk) 23:38, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

That was a one-episode-only gag, so it isn't appropriate to include here. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:49, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

One off gag job

My additions to the jobs that Peter has had have been reverted. I had added that he had jobs as a New England Patriot and was a knight. These weren't part of the usual gag jobs that were used for a cutaway gag. While they weren't lasting occupations (an episode each), they were important parts of the actual narrative of the episodes. As such, they were not gags. -Xcuref1endx (talk) 05:07, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

They certainly weren't just "gags", though I don't know if one-episode-only jobs tend to be included. Snuggums (talk / edits) 05:15, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
"1-off gags" is admittedly an oversimplification of what they were (we get plenty of attempts to list 1-offs in these articles, so it was an over-quick assessment). As far as I understand, minor (ie: non-recurring) factoids like these are usually not included in these articles. Willing to wait for more input/opinions, but I think the entries in question are not notable enough to be included. DP76764 (Talk) 05:21, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
Agreed, it gives undue weight to minor, one episode jobs. Just like Homer Simpson only has power plant listed, despite having hundreds of one episode jobs. CTF83! 22:35, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
I don't know if this is an WP:UNDUE issue. However, the only point I am making, without getting all wikilawyer here, is that these one episode jobs were part of the overall narrative of the family guy world. Would they be listed if they were a two episode job? -Xcuref1endx (talk) 04:11, 8 November 2014 (UTC)
possibly, but we would probably debate it first. Frietjes (talk) 13:26, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

Justin Griffin

so did Peter ever get his name changed from Justin to Peter from the last episode? 82.16.132.169 (talk) 18:50, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

I thought about adding that, but I guess it will go the way of megatron griffin Toten (talk) 20:22, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Wait. Yes, his full name was revealed in an episode. And he did change his name. Larsconks (talk) 08:23, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

His full name is Justin Peter Griffin, it should at least be mentioned on the page Theric420 (talk) 03:10, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

No because that was a one-episode-only gag. On the other hand, mentions within multiple episodes would make such an addition more worthy. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:14, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

Removed Lowenbrau

There is only one episode which mentions this as his middle name, once, the same as there is only one episode which makes jokes about his actual name being Justin. Therefore, we should just stick to the name the character is most known by, as this proves there is elasticity to his name because...it's a cartoon '''tAD''' (talk) 22:07, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

I completely disagree. Even if it were a "cutaway gag" (it wasn't, it was featured heavily in the main plotline of an entire episode), there is no argument to support not listing it as one of his full names.MarcelB612 (talk) 06:31, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Peter griffin’s popularity extends far past simply being a name on a list he has also been able to develop an intense real world fan following. Since 2014, comic-con pattern Robert Franzese has donned the alter ego of peter griffin. As himself Robert Franzese refers to himself as being a “no body with a no body job…”but, once he put on the cos-play and voice of Peter Griffin he becomes a “somebody”. Congratulations! You've found three mistakes you can correct.
If other articles are categorized with non-defining categories, we should correct them, not spread the error. The alternative is to add the hundreds (literally) of other categories that aren't defining here, but kinda sorta fit.
If, OTOH, you feel this generally accepted editing guideline is wrong, you'll want to work to change it. The talk page at Misplaced Pages:Categorization would be a good place to start. - SummerPhD 15:44, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
