== Wikiproject Military history coordinator election voting period closing soon ==
Hi, Superdude. Since I'am proud of my Italian ancestry, i have never intended to offend nobody with my nickname. The term "Dago's Navy" was employed by an American Admiral commenting the supposed poor performance of the Italian Fleet in WWII in his Preface to the memories of British Admiral of the Fleet ], so I introduced this phrase as a way of mocking those certainly offensive remarks. I guess I could change it to a more suitable one, like "WopsNavy" if you want, but I have already made a lot of contributions under the former nick. I will make the proper changes as soon as possible. Thanks.

I tried to mimic the ] page but as soon as I entered a third collum to include the UK and Irish forces the bottom area disapeared (see Vietnam war page and you'll get what I mean. But the problems is with the page as a whole its very one sided at times. One of the big things i wanted change was the image of a bobby sands quote next to a IRA member. I just put the current image of the divide in Ireland.

Hello, thats a valid point about the map for a image, but the problem was i couldnt find any photograph that would go well with the article. But if you find one thats suitable please put it up. Its best to have this article been edited by people who are making changes that are historically acurate. Rather then others who have in the past made changes that are biast to there own opinion. Which sadly people have done alot to "the troubles" page before .

I saw you removed the template added to the ] and decided to go back to those small and limited city-header-ar, city-poli-ar-ba, and other tiny little templates. I added such template in order to be consistent with other cities (e.g. ]). Is there any reason on using the little ones when there is already one suitable for any city? I notice that you've done most of the editions to this article, which is great, but I don't see the reason for having a map flying on top of the article and a somewhat limited template, thus giving a dull and messy look to the article. Good luck.

== Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations opening soon ==
I am very concerned about the amount of material you are adding which doesn't correspond precisely to the refs you are providing. You need to be aware that the subject matter is considerably more complex that it might appear at first sight. It should be apparent to you by now that the contents of this article are becoming increasingly controversial and not only are feelings running high but my patience is wearing thin. When including contentious material, you should include impeccable references which correspond exactly to the material you are relying on. ::Hi Roger. Well, I'am seriously reflecting about it. Some of the controversial material was already removed or re-shaping by myself to match ''exactly'' what sources say, thus avoiding '''OR''' violations. And I will remove ''by myself'' all the material that could mean a prejudice to Misplaced Pages readers. My edits were made on good faith; perhaps because I'am not a native speaker of English, I failed to include accurate references sometimes, but not in the degree that another user(s) claim. I will response as soon as possible to the post at the talk page of the "South Armagh Sniper" article.--] (]) 13:12, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

I hope you don't think I'm being impolite if I suggest that this is particularly difficult area for someone who does not have English as their mother tongue to edit in and that it might be easier to work also in less controversial areas :) --] ] 13:34, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

::::Thank for your tip, Roger. I've introduced some changes in the SA sniper article. I re-shaped the potential '''OR''' statements (synthesis of two different sources), by replacing Taylor for two cites from Harnden. I also added quotes (without removing the tags) about the smuggling of the rifles. I hope it will be the start of some kind of compromise about this hard-debated issue. == Pyrrhic victory ==
Hi FarSouthNavy - My reading of ] is that Pyrrhic '''is''' covered by the existing statement - hence<br> "It's already covered by the proviso "Do not introduce non-standard terms like "decisive", "marginal" or "tactical" - "Pyrrhic" being even less standard. " and <br>" the deprecation of such terms in the infobox does not mean that the sources should not be represented in the lead, where prose can convey such nuance" <br>I see no agreement that "Pyrrhic" is acceptable, whilst "decisive", "marginal" or "tactical" are not. - ] (]) 22:13, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
:{{ping|User:Arjayay}} Hi Arjajay - My rationale for restoring the term was based upon the infobox at ]; the conclusion at the template's talk page was that if enough sources are found, the non-standard result should remain. Feel free to revert my edits, but first please take a look to the mentioned article (]).--] (]) 22:25, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

::: "The infobox, by its nature, does not allow to explain the nuance of such terms. However, the deprecation of such terms in the infobox does not mean that the sources should not be represented in the lead, where prose can convey such nuance .... we should direct the reader to the article (ie - victory X: see ...) rather than use a term with a degree of uncertainty in meaning to the reader or nuance in meaning by the the writer."
::I agree with that, especially given the poor understanding of classical terms these days, I wonder how many readers actually understand what a pyrrhic victory is - they probably wonder what side the pyrrhics were fighting for ! - best wishes - ] (]) 22:43, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

== Chelsea Barracks edit ==
Hi FarSouthNavy | |||
Please can you explain why you undid my (WednesdayFootSoldier) edits on this page (Chelsea_Barracks_bombing)?
Two points. | |||
First, the article says 'they assumed':
"The IRA unit assumed that would be a place where passing civilians were unlikely to get caught"
We can not know what they really thought or felt, only what they expressed (they 'said'). Given the location the probability of civilian injury was high, which makes their assumptions very questionable to put it politely. I feel it is right to be precise, in this case, as it draws attention to the improbability of their claim, which shouldn't necessarily be taken at face value.
Secondly, I provided information about the location. London is a big place, often busy, sometimes not. I don't see why neutral information about distances from major pubic transport interchanges could be controversial, except they help undermine the claims of the IRA involved. It gives information and context to the reader.
I lived in that area for 11 years. Someone unfamiliar with it, as most wikipedia readers will be, could well take those improbable claims at face value. I feel wider context is needed. For example 'Chelsea' Barracks are not actually in the area most people would recognise as Chelsea, or its origins (Cheyne Walk, etc). It's actually closer to the Victoria area.
Yours in good faith, | |||
WFS ] (]) 14:48, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
:Hi WednesdayFootSoldier;
:The reasons for removing your good faith edit are based upon ]. I understand your rationale, but personal experience is not regarded as reliable for inclusion in Misplaced Pages (see ]).
:As for your first point, the statement you mention about the IRA claim had no citations supporting it and was consequently removed from the article (). Feel free to ask me if you have any other questions. Best regards-- ] (]) 21:11, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
::Thank you for that removal of the IRA claim.
::I would only add that geographic context is not personal experience (objective specifying of distances from traffic interchanges, etc).
::I was only explaining my motivation for editing - and adding that neutral geo-info - was that I had lived there.
::Best, ] (]) 10:50, 7 May 2023 (UTC)

Important notice
This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in Eastern Europe or the Balkans. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Misplaced Pages's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Thanks!
Thanks for your work on improving the Troubles section on the article British war crimes! You added more clarity to the text and you sourced it as well. It’s a subject that’s close to my heart so thank you very much! The Optimistic One (talk) 20:18, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- Nevermind mate, congrats to you for your excellent work on Enterteinment-related articles. The Troubles section was badly needed of sources referring specifically to war crimes. Thanks for the compliment!. Darius (talk) 21:09, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- Still beating the anti-British horse I see. On the contrary I would say that there was no improvement, just the presentation of allegations and opinion pieces as facts when they aren't. As such I've amended it with the simple addition of the word "alleged". Unless found to be war crimes according to the International Criminal Court then it's not an official war crime just alleged. Mabuska 22:46, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Mabuska, feel free to remove the entire section if you find it breaches WP:NPOV. I have only added, as you say, "opinion pieces" about well-documented facts, I guess (Ballymurphy, Bloody Sunday, Five Techniques), in order to source a number of unreferenced statements. Agreed on the rewording (alleged). Thank you.--Darius (talk) 23:03, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- I have removed it but only because of the prior talk discussion on the matter which found no consent for its inclusion in the first place. If consensus changes that it should be added under the guise of presenting well sourced allegations over stating allegations as if they are fact then I will restore it. Those incidents however despite being well-documented have not been found as war crimes, so their inclusoon ultimately is WP:OR and very subjective. Mabuska 16:27, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- Fine for me, Mabuska, as I've said above, I was just "sourcing the unsourced". If those statements are deemed to be off-topic is another matter. Regards.--Darius (talk) 18:09, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Timeline of the war in Donbas (2017) , Timeline of the war in Donbas (2018)
Hi FarSouthNavy. I have a question. It's not at all clear why you have copied most of the text from Timeline of the war in Donbas (2017) into Timeline of the war in Donbas (2018). Surely identical events did not happen in both years?— Diannaa (talk)
- Hi Dianaa, thanks for your comment. Just check dates, text and sources carefully and you will realise that that's not the case. I was checking whether my mind was sending me a warning through a massive 'copy and paste' mishap, but fortunately all seems ok, events look pretty different.--Darius (talk) 18:17, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

Pyrrhic victory
Hi FarSouthNavy - My reading of Template talk:Infobox military conflict#Use of "Pyrrhic victory" is that Pyrrhic is covered by the existing statement - hence
"It's already covered by the proviso "Do not introduce non-standard terms like "decisive", "marginal" or "tactical" - "Pyrrhic" being even less standard. " and
" the deprecation of such terms in the infobox does not mean that the sources should not be represented in the lead, where prose can convey such nuance"
I see no agreement that "Pyrrhic" is acceptable, whilst "decisive", "marginal" or "tactical" are not. - Arjayay (talk) 22:13, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Arjayay: Hi Arjajay - My rationale for restoring the term was based upon the infobox at Siege of Ostend; the conclusion at the template's talk page was that if enough sources are found, the non-standard result should remain. Feel free to revert my edits, but first please take a look to the mentioned article (Siege of Ostend).--Darius (talk) 22:25, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
- The use in of Pyrrhic in Siege of Ostend (as well as Battle of Malplaquet, Battle of Callinicum and Battle of Perecué) was why the thread was started.
Although the thread petered out, rather than reaching a clear conclusion. The penultimate post includes- "The infobox, by its nature, does not allow to explain the nuance of such terms.
- I agree with that, especially given the poor understanding of classical terms these days, I wonder how many readers actually understand what a pyrrhic victory is - they probably wonder what side the pyrrhics were fighting for ! - best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 22:43, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

Beria
Hi there friend, I’ve removed “notorious” for its emotive connotations, but thought brutal was ok because i have seen it widely used in articles in a similar sense before. Plus his sadism is well documented but I felt you can’t apply the term sadist to policy itself. Hope we can work this out. 222.152.26.143 (talk) 05:29, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, welcome to Misplaced Pages. I have no doubt that Beria was a brutal henchman, a sadistic criminal and a rapist, but you should support all those claims by citing reliable sources. Please, take a look here: WP:RS and WP:V. Additionally, any statement in the lede should be concise and should reflect only what the body of the article says. Feel free to ask me any other question, best regards.-- Darius (talk) 16:22, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

Overlap with sock
Hi, I'm investigating new socks of the sockmaster TimSala. In looking into the various socks, I noticed you've probably encountered them the most in your years of editing. If you don't mind looking at Misplaced Pages:Sockpuppet investigations/TimSala and the associated archive, I would appreciate any insight you might be able to provide for the new investigation. Thank you! ~ Pbritti (talk) 21:51, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Pbritti. Frankly, as far as I can remember, I come upon only one of their "latests" sockpuppets, namely Sanguichdelsur. He made a couple of edits on one of the articles I watch, but I couldn't say much more. I will take time to look for any possible interaction with them or the other sockpuppets in my contributions in the past and I will be pleased to help you in the investigation if I find anything. Best regards.--Darius (talk) 01:14, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
Chelsea Barracks edit
Hi FarSouthNavy
Please can you explain why you undid my (WednesdayFootSoldier) edits on this page (Chelsea_Barracks_bombing)?
Two points.
First, the article says 'they assumed': "The IRA unit assumed that would be a place where passing civilians were unlikely to get caught" We can not know what they really thought or felt, only what they expressed (they 'said').
Yours in good faith,
WFS WednesdayFootSoldier (talk) 14:48, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi WednesdayFootSoldier;
- The reasons for removing your good faith edit are based upon WP:NOR. I understand your rationale, but personal experience is not regarded as reliable for inclusion in Misplaced Pages (see WP:PRIMARY).
- As for your first point, the statement you mention about the IRA claim had no citations supporting it and was consequently removed from the article (difference between revisions). Feel free to ask me if you have any other questions. Best regards-- Darius (talk) 21:11, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for that removal of the IRA claim.
- I would only add that geographic context is not personal experience (objective specifying of distances from traffic interchanges, etc).
- I was only explaining my motivation for editing - and adding that neutral geo-info - was that I had lived there.
- Best, WednesdayFootSoldier (talk) 10:50, 7 May 2023 (UTC)

HMS Yarmouth (F101)
Good morning FarSouthNavy,
you reverted my deletion of the link to the external site. I searched the site again and - at least currently - there isn't any information about the ship or a related topic listed. Would you be so kind to explain, why you revertedmy edit?
Yours --Baumfreund-FFM (talk) 05:18, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
- Good morning Baumfreund-FFM.
- The site is actually relevant to the topic since it is the diary of HMS Yarmouth activities during the Falklands War, the main conflict in which the ship became involved. I reverted your edit simply because that was the easier way to restore the info conveyed by the original link, not because it was wrong in anyway. Best regards. -- Darius (talk) 13:13, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
- Good morning FarSouthNavy,
- thanks for the explanation. After this and reading your following edits of the article I understand what you did.
