:Goal difference was not used as a criterion to separate teams in the World Cup finals until 1970.

:The schema that was used in World Cup qualifiers and finals from 1958 up til 1970 was goal average. However in every World Cup up until 1966, goal average was only used as a last resort before it went to the drawing of lots. i.e. before resorting to goal average teams on equal points had to play a play-off. In 1930 there was no criterion in place by which any decision about who had finished 3rd or 4th could be determined. They didn't use goal average, they didn't use goal difference, they didn't use count of goals for (ignoring goals against), they didn't use number of corners, they didn't draw lots and they didn't play a play-off. There was no 3rd place in 1930, just like there is no 3rd place in the Wimbledon Championships, there were two losing semi-finalists. Goal difference was brought into play in league football to encourage attacking play and thus it influences how many goals teams score. Do you think that if the teams were aware that their goal average/difference would make a difference to their position in respect of 3rd/4th place then it might have had an influence on how many goals they put no the back of the net? Using modern criteria retrospectively for the 1930 World Cup makes no sense whatsoever. If it does, then why don't we award 3 points for a win instead of 2 and then see who would have qualified for the semi-finals? ] 21:31, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

I appreciate your hard work in producing these very interesting tables, but I'm afraid they contravene ], and I've removed them from the articles. I am sorry to have to delete them as I know a lot of effort must have gone into them, but unless you were able to supply references that they were published in a reputable publication, they are not suitable for Misplaced Pages. I suggest you either upload them to one of the many free web hosts out there, or that you userfy them. I can help you with this if you like. --] 22:32, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
:There have been various attempts to include league tables like this for the World Cups over the last months and all have been deleted. While they are interesting in a way, they are definitely original research as described in the policy I referred you to above, and so cannot be placed in the articles. You should certainly not insert them again without first obtaining consensus in the relevant articles' talk pages. To userfy them would mean setting up a subpage in your user space; I, for example have ] in mine. There would be no objection to having them there. --] 12:02, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
::I appreciate that it must be draining when your hard work is deleted, which is why I sent you my original message above. Unfortunately, being "harmless" is not sufficient for inclusion here. The statistics are not of course in dispute here; it is your analysis of them which makes the tables you want to include original research. By including them, even with the tag "unofficial", we run the risk that readers (who may not be experts on football) may think these "standings" have some meaning. I'm afraid I will continue to strongly resist the inclusion of any such tables in the articles. Sorry. --] 15:58, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

== 1934 Hungarian Squad ==

] have tagged ] as having some issues to fix, as a part of our ] and note that:
Hi!
Sorry for deleting J. Rozsonyi. I was pretty new back then on the Misplaced Pages, and I was not aware of the talk page. The reason I deleted him is that I could not find any records about a Hungarian player with this name at all! I know you can find many references which state that Hungary had a player on the 1934 World Cup, but he never played a game. But I beleive, all of these come from the RSSSF page .<br>
What makes me think this is that he is the only player who's first name is missing from every single homepage dealing with this issue .<br><br>
Also he is the only one who's position is unknown (same references). And above all if you check the order of the players on every single site, he is mentioned between Moré and Tamássy. That's what makes me think that the source of information is the RSSSF homepage. On might also note that only English language references are stating this player.<br><br>
About a football player with the name J. Rozsonyi. According to my knowledge, no player with that name has ever played for the Hungarian national team. You can find every single player who played for the Hungary on this page (It is complete from 1902 to 2001), and this player is not mentioned. Also I have several books about the Hungarian national team, but none of them states this name. As an addition I have a book which is about all the games of the National team, including friendlies against club teams, the games of Hungary 'B', Hungary 'C', the amateur and the professional national team, youth national teams, West-Hungary, East-Hungary, Budapest selected etc. . It doesn't say anything about a player called Rozsonyi again at all. I've checked every single match between 1930 and 1938, and I didn't find anybody with the name Rozsonyi.<br><br>
Also I have a book which has every 1st league game the team of Újpest has ever played. I couldn't find any players with the name Rozsonyi there either in the squads of the opponents of Újpest. If you add all this, I think we can state, this player called J. Rozsonyi has never existed, it is just a mistake that he is in there. The "closest name" I can think of is Rozgonyi, a player of Kispest in the 1930's. But as far as I know he didn't go to the World Cup either, and also he never played for the national team. I have contacted the historian of the Kispest homepage, and I'm waiting for his e-mail on Rozgonyi.<br><br>
Sorry for not having any online references, but the history of Hungarian footbal is very poor on the Internet. :-(<br><br>
<hr>
Hi! I have new information about the topic! My friend is in the Hungarian National Library at this moment, and I asked him to look up some information about the topic! He just called me from there in a second, he checked both sports newspapers (Nemzeti Sport & Sporthirlap) from 1934 and this guy, called Rozsonyi is Rozgonyi from Kispest. I don't have his first name yet, I will have to work on it, but we do not need to add him to the World Cup Squad, because on the very last day of nomination there were certain changes made in the Hungarian squad. Rozgonyi and two other players were left out, and three new players, including Biro were included in the squad! My friend will send me an e-mail tonight or tomorrow, with the exact Hungary squad for the 1934 World Cup from the Hungarian newspapers, including the three changes on the last day of nomination!!! I got very interested about the topic :)
So as a summary, the original Hungarian squad did include Rozgonyi, but the final squad after the three changes on the last day, did not! So Rozgonyi did not travel to Italy.<br><br>

{{Quote|1=The article needs a copyedit to comply with ]. In particular, soccer scores should be represented using an ] (e.g. 3–1) instead of a ] (e.g. 3-1).}}
Anyway, there is no such Hungarian name as Rozsnoyi (it doesn't fit to the Hungarian grammer since y as a stand alone letter doesn't exist, only together with l, t or n (ly, ty and ny), so it is a mistake for sure. :)<br><br>

Also I am a fanatic of Újpest FC, and many times they ask me about club history information, since I am researching the club history together with the guy who is in the Library right now :) So if you are looking for details on Hungarian football history, please feel free to contact me. I am also in touch with Újpest FC, the homepage editors are both my friends, while I also know the chairman in person.

Hi again!
I've got the final version now from the 1934 Hungarian Sports newspapers (Nemzeti Sport & Sporthírlap):
The original squad of Hungary was the following:<br>
Goalkeepers: József Háda, Antal Szabó<br>
Defenders: József Vágó, László Sternberg, Gyula Futó, '''Rezső Rozgonyi'''<br>
Midfielders: Antal Szalay, István Palotás, György Szűcs, János Moré, Gyula Lázár, János Dudás<br>
Strikers: Imre Markos, István Tamássy, István Avar, Jenő Vincze, Pál Teleki, Géza Toldi, Tibor Kemény, Gábor P. Szabó, György Sárosi, József Turay<br><br>

] (]) 07:27, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
On the last day of nomination the following changes were made because of the supporters' and journalists' complains:<br>
Somlai* replacing János Móré<br>
Gyula Polgár replacing József Turay<br>
Sándor Bíró replacing '''Rezső Rozgonyi'''<br><br>

== ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message ==
Thus the final, actually travelling squad became the following:<br>
Goalkeepers: József Háda, Antal Szabó<br>
Defenders: József Vágó, László Sternberg, Gyula Futó, Sándor Bíró<br>
Midfielders: Antal Szalay, István Palotás, György Szűcs, Somlay (!!!), Gyula Lázár, János Dudás<br>
Strikers: Imre Markos, István Tamássy, István Avar, Jenő Vincze, Pál Teleki, Géza Toldi, Tibor Kemény, Gábor P. Szabó, György Sárosi, Gyula Polgár (Sárosi was injured, Polgár had university exams so they both arrived later then the rest of the team!)<br><br>

<div class="ivmbox " style="margin-bottom: 1em; border: 1px solid #AAA; background-color: ivory; padding: 0.5em; display: flex; align-items: center; ">
I marked our man with bold letters! He is the onknown "Rozsonyi". In the reality it was Rezső Rozgonyi, a 1909 born right back who played for Vasas until 1929 then joined Kispest, and he was still a player of Kispest in 1934.<br><br>

Hi Libro0.
I wouldn't put too much store by the wikipedia article, as I created it 2 days ago. I took the spelling from the ] article, where Mansour was listed as a captain and later manager of the club. With so many variations, I thought that a version submitted by a native Arabic speaker (] added the information to the Al-Ahly article) was best. Ideally, the article should also have Mansour's name in Arabic - if we get an Arabic speaker to translate, they could also advise if there is a preferred Egyptian translation of Moustafa (ie, Ukrainians don't use the western alphabet but have a preference for Kyiv as the translated name of their capital, rather than Kiev). I might ask ] as he has translated a previous Arabic footie biography I edited. ] 11:20, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

In all honesty, I can't see where I_H_C is a problem on this particular page. He only made something like two edits, and they weren't reverted. He seems to be interested in baseball cards, you seem to be interested in hockey cards. I can't see why there should be much conflict there; the company did make both kinds of cards.

== Football articles ==
Now, I_H_C does have some grammar problems. But quite frankly, they are very minor compared to what I see in the articles on Indian and Hong Kong schools, where the grasp of English is tenuous at best. The best way to not have to keep fixing the grammar problems is NOT to try to run the other editor off. Instead fix up the day's problems on the page (likely only a few sentences) and then put a section on grammar on the article talk page. "I fixed up the following sentences from ... to ... I did this because ..." And this last part is the tricky part. You need to explain what the grammar rule is in simple terms, and not give in to wanting to call the other person a dunderhead.

Well, the "WP:Vandal" summary edit is totally wrong so I'm everything but vandal. Let's clear it. First of all, I have been here for over 18 years, and I have had edited (and created) tons of association football articles.
I looked at the other trading card pages linked from the main page, and I can see that you are both editing on these pages too. It looks like you were there first and they were hockey trading card pages, and then I_H_C added baseball info, and then you renamed them to sports card pages. All of this looks fine to me, but I see that you have rubbed elbows uncomfortably closely in a few places.

I'll explain you the changes made:
I would suggest the following: when something is added and you don't like it (grammar or whatever), you might make one try at changing it to your liking. If it gets reverted by the original editor, it doesn't mean he is obstinate. It means ''he didn't understand your point''. Maybe you described it clearly enough for YOU to understand. But maybe you are assuming some context that the other person isn't seeing, so your statements just don't make sense to him. Or maybe he understands them but disagrees. So he reverts back to his version. And reverting once is OK. Really, it is.
# The Clark logo is the company logo, not the football team emblem so why did you put it there? They are not the same thing. If I consider it could be removed, there is no vandalic edit on that.
# When you revert a change, you are changing ALL the modifications. And I had also added a "nowrap" template to the template:football box to align the 'Kearny Rangers' name. With your revertion, this change disappeared.
# My recent edits on U.S. football teams have been all in good faith and they have the purpose of improving the articles. You stated {{color|blue|''all without discussion. Some of these edits are questionable as to their improvement of the article''}}. <u>You sound angry at the changes, like if I or any user should ask you permission for editing. That's not how WP works.</u> If you disagree with some change, open a debate on the respective article and ping the editor to discuss the point.
# Harry Holden on Commons: if you refer to ], I was based on ] where it is recommendable to upload the file separately when the new versions differs significantly from the original. And the colorized version (Ai maybe?) fits to that case. I could upload the color version as a new file, of course, to keep it there as an alternate version of the original black & white. And YES, a bigger image with better definition is always preferable rather than a small version.

Now I have to go out to work, but when I'm back, I'll revert some of the changes and will open a talk page on the 1887 American Cup to discuss some points that I consider relevant for the debate. ] (]) 09:49, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
At this point we can assume you still disagree. Time to ''take it to the article talk page''. Leave what the other editor has, and post a new section saying "I'm not sure what you mean by ..." (even if you think you really are sure) or "possible grammar problems with ..." (even if you know darn well it is wrong), and then say what it is that you don't like. If possible, try to phrase it as a question and make sure you put a "thank you" in it somewhere. You are trying to get the other guy to explain why he did something. Maybe after he explains it you will say, "oh, I see. I would have done it ''this'' way instead..." And maybe he will agree that would be a better way. Or maybe he will say "no, because..." and bring up something you haven't thought of, and you will end up saying, "gee, he's right!".

:1. It is not the Clark company logo. It is a Clark O.N.T. emblem which is appropriately 'representative' of the team named after the Our New Thread product. The team played on the company grounds and was made up of company employees, with uniforms made from that thread. How is the Clark O.N.T. emblem N.O.T. suitably representative of the team? It was extremely rare for any teams in that era to have an officially trademarked logo like modern franchises. If you have nothing to replace it with, the best option is to leave it. I consider it a very nice touch as opposed to leaving a pointlessly empty box there.
Now, if the whole thing boils down to grammar problems in the end, there are really only three possible solutions:
:2/3. I made one revert and a few other changes to incorrect data that I found. The words on the screen cannot 'sound' angry since they make no noise. I opened up a discussion on your page addressing edits I felt were not all helpful. This is how WP works. There was a point of discussion on . I took the original article and split it into two to do justice to each tournament. In the Talk I suggested merging the AAFA history in to USSF history since they are the same organization. You reintroduced a 'Main' page which is not wrong but rather formal. It now stands as an extremely redundant stub that can be simply merged and redirected to USSF history. The AAFA cup meanwhile is shown there when it was not awarded in both events only the second one.
#Fix it yourself
:4. Most of the photos I have uploaded have been reduced in size by a bot. Whatever quality difference you are identifying between the photos is negligible. For a period, technology limited photography and television/cinema to grayscale. However the world always existed in color. Why you would remove a photograph depicting a subject in its known natural color makes no sense to me. Take (1896 American Cup) for example. You removed a large color photo and replaced it with essentially nothing and move a black and white thumbnail of it to the infobox?!?! It is an AFA football tournament so the infobox has a representative logo of an AFA football. The team does not represent the tournament. Their photo is most appropriately placed in the Champions section clearly and colorfully visible with legible names. There was no improvement with that edit. A nice touch that all the articles should have if photos were available. ] (]) 01:22, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
#Teach the other editor what is wrong so he stops making things to fix
::1. I have added a correct template (see edit summary) to ]. In some known competition seasons (such as ] or ] those "winners" boxes are not even included (in fact, the template format does not allow to include other emblems rather than flags).
#Grit your teeth and just leave it for someone else to fix. It will get fixed sooner or later.
::2-3. I'll reply to that discussion explaining the reason of my changes about the ]. Regarding the merger of ] to the USSF, I have never complained about this. TW: redirects have sense when ONE article is involved. But in the case of ], the tournament had two editions so redirecting it to only one of them, is leaving work half done.
::4. If you haven't noticed yet, I uploaded the color version as a separate file (]). 4.a) {{color|blue|''However the world always existed in color. Why you would remove a photograph depicting a subject in its known natural color makes no sense to me''}} Well, a black and white photo is always preferrable in cases when technology of those times only allowed to take that kind of pictures. You mentioned "natural color" but those photos were digitally manipulated to add color to them. What is "natural" there? If everyone thought as you do, most of the images on Misplaced Pages should be removed.
::Team photo on articles: when the team photo is available, it is usually displayed on the tournament infobx (like ]). The ] is a generic logo, not the logo of the tournament/cup or de association itself. Why should this be a better image than the photo of the winning team? 'that' does not make sense to me. ] (]) 10:10, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
:::So in summary, there wasn't any significant point made here. I see lack of creativity and imagination. You basically want to restrict articles to what 'some other' articles have done. You want to be limited by how a particular template was designed. Sorry, but no. I deliberately made the box so I could put a non flag in there. What you put serves no purpose. It is not an international tournament. They do not represent a country or a state. As a company team they represent their brand. I also intentionally put a 'generic' ball because there is no official tournament logo. I also did it for consistency which you ]. If you know that actual color palette of a subject I strongly encourage its use. Black and white is not natural it is merely the 'original' format of the media. I never said B/W must be removed, or 'color for the sake of color' especially if it is not correct color scheme. Clark O.N.T. were known to be crimson. In favor of, AAFA cup ->'''neutral''', 1887 AFA -> '''Restore''', 1896 AFA-> '''Restore'''.
:::As for the example of 1967 Intercontinental, well that photo is used twice in the article. Its not a team photo rather it is a 'group' photo. Haphazard at best. Appropriate at the lower part of the article but not in the infobox. The other team and actions photos are well placed. Team photos should be in infobox on team pages not tournament pages. belongs in the infobox. ] (]) 22:48, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
::::Well, From the beginning, I have tried to be nice to you and try to reach a consensus, but instead I was met with a user whose attitude was hostile and less than cooperative. And my patience also has a limit. If your argument with phrases like ''{{color|blue|So in summary, there wasn't any significant point made here. I see lack of creativity and imagination''}}, my tone can't be as polite as it was at the beginning of this debate.
::::You are talking of "consistency" while putting an illustration of a generic low-quality ball but you dare to question other users when a photo of the winner of the season is included. I'm pretty sure that the image of the team is a much more representative image than any ball you randomly take from the web. Or in any case, leaving the infobox blank would be better than adding that awful ball. But calling "disruptive" to that edit, comes from a distorted point of view.
::::If you think that a customised "winner box" should be placed on the 1887 Cup article, go ahead. I just tried to give a propper format to that section but this is a minor issue after all. The problem is not discussing with you or any user that disagrees with the changes, the problem is your tone. Next time, try not to accuse other users of "vandals", "being disrupting" or "lack of imagination and creativity" because those terms do not help build a polite debate.
::::Finally, the 1967 Intercontinental poster you show me fits perfect for the infobox. I could use it. ] (]) 09:39, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

Of those choices, I would try for being a grammar coach, and if that fails, fix up the occasional problem yourself, but don't make a life's work of that.

I saw your most recent edit and am unfamiliar with a T-T scoreline, what does it represent? Also, what is Derby Transcript, without information except the date on the publication I find it difficult to find anything using that name? Thanks. ] (]) 13:25, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

:I have always been reluctant to add stuff without complete data but this one I went ahead and put in for completeness. It looked silly just having the replay without the original game. ::So it didn't report a score, just that it was tied? Also, the data about Derby Transcript (i.e. location) would allow other publishers to verify the data added. ] (]) 15:06, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
:::You are welcome to go look at the microfilm or I can transcribe the Transcript here: November 16 states: 'A rattling game of football was played at Driving Park on Saturday, between the Ansonias and the Thistles of Newark, N.J. Two games had been played previously by these clubs, one of which was taken by the Ansonias and the other was a tie. The third game resulted in one goal for the Ansonias and a gigantic goose egg for the Thistles. Had weather been more favorable the attendance would have been larger.' There was no title or author. It was a weekly paper published on Wednesday so 'on Saturday' was Nov 12. Error-Thistles are NY not NJ. The November 2nd edition of the paper which was just after the October 29 match states: 'The American Football Association lately in session in Newark, N.J., has decided in favor of the Ansonias, as against the Thistles of New York. The New Yorkers will play off the game with the Ansonias on the 12th inst.' No title, no author. Comment- Now if there were 3 games one may have been an exhibition, friendly, league game, etc. So I assumed the first game was a tie and for whatever reason not stated, Thistles protested and it was not sustained. So only two of the meetings were cup ties. I didn't know what to do with this and since I haven't found anything else decided to just post it as is.] (]) 16:11, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
::::Well I would suggest there are two options. If you used the ] to use in the reference section, there is a quote section in that template that will allow you to quote the parts you assume suggest the tie. In addition if the data about Derby Transcript weekly paper (i.e. city, state) was added it would allow other editors to find on microfilm if doing research on the subject. The second option is to add the note section to ] that the game is in and place in the note that the article did not list scores. ] (]) 16:34, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

== Your sockpuppet allegation ==

Hello. I saw your allegation when I was asking about another potential copyright problem. The images that I tagged and were subsequently removed were due to copyright concerns, mainly the user had uploaded images taken from elsewhere that were not their own, but claimed that they were their own work. Please see: . Looking at you talk page, it appears that your images were deleted because they were orphaned.

I do not want to get involved in your trading card edit war. I really have no interest in trading cards and all I did was add the metric conversions, as not everyone uses the American standards of measurement. stumbled upon the article and thought it would be a good idea to include the globally accepted measurment standard to that as well as one another one in the series in the hopes that someone who actually cares about them would add them to the rest of the articles. If you are seeing sockpuppets everywhere perhaps it is time to pause and take a deep breath before accusing people of things. == Baseball card war ==

I think it may be a good idea if you would stand down from editing the baseball card articles. You and Baseball Card Guy seem to have issues. These issues are getting in the way of any productive discussion and there seems to be a lot of passive aggressive behavior between the two of you. It seems like both parties are egging each other on trying to get into a fight. That is not productive nor is it going to accomplish anything except cause anger on both sides. Things between the two of you have seemed to been escalating and if they continue things could get out of hand. ] (]) 13:50, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

War?! What 'war'? Are you referring to the calm discussion I was having with you? Well, I was calm at least. I don't know about you but I am not fighting anyone. I moved the article for the obscure soccer team to ], where it should have been all along. ] now has a disambiguation page with over two dozen things that people have a much higher likelihood of relevance. If anyone is digging a hole it is you since you seem to be on the attack.
I did not delete the article. I did not do anything out of malice. I am, however vigilant when it comes to you since you seem to tar anyone you have issues with as a sockpuppet and now as a wikistalker. If anyone is acting poorly in this matter it is you with your allegations and lies. ] (]) 17:47, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes it was good edit, thank you. Keep in mind that the case against you is not about vandalism but about sock puppetry. I do not tar anyone who has a different opinion, in fact I have run into numerous users with differing opinions and have had no problems discussing things with them. There are plenty of edits made by people at the baseball card pages who are not socks like Fram for instance. I engaged in discussion of which you are in denial. Please stop monitoring me; that is what got you in trouble in the first place. I stayed away but you could not leave me alone. You put my name in Plate King's rant in two places, you also were relentless in placing sock tags on my user page as well as Box and Omero. Why do you have to harass me? I am trying to share information and follow the guidlines. It may be a children's hobby and pieces of cardboard with pictures on it but it is also notable for a variety of reasons and I have tried to bring some academic quality to it. You don't want to invite other people(legitimate people not socks) to help with the baseball card articles because you are afraid they will not allow you to have things your way. I invite anyone to help out. You never know, they may agree with your format. You have ruined it for new users. Now only long established users will be able to go there. Please learn what community and compromise are. You have prevented me from continuing to add information to the pages. Any further unwarranted reverts will however be considered vandalism. ] (]) 18:19, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Ways to improve 1892 American Cup

Hello, Libro0,

Thank you for creating 1892 American Cup.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

The article needs a copyedit to comply with MOS:DASH. In particular, soccer scores should be represented using an en dash (e.g. 3–1) instead of a hyphen (e.g. 3-1).

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Bennv123}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Image copyright problem with File:NHSCTrophy.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:NHSCTrophy.jpg.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Misplaced Pages takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. — Ирука 07:44, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of 1978 National Rugby Campionships

Hello Libro0,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged 1978 National Rugby Campionships for deletion, because it's a redirect that seems implausible or is an unlikely search term.

If you don't want 1978 National Rugby Campionships to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

American Cup

@Libro0 I am working to update/improve articles related to early American soccer. I noticed that on talk pages you listed information on multiple occasions, that might be included in the article, but I don't see a reference for where you are getting the information. What source are you using? Demt1298 (talk) 19:42, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

1896 American Cup

@Libro0 I just wanted to inquire why you added the See Also: 1895–96 National Association Foot Ball League season to the 1896 American Cup. What is the relation that you are referencing between these two articles? Demt1298 (talk) 15:01, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

Same season, same sport, same region, and some of the same teams, AFA rules. Libro0 (talk) 17:30, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

AAFA cup trophy

Hi, LibroO, I recently transferred the AAFA Cup trophy image to Commons, where it was nominated for deletion so the nominator presumed it is a copyrighted one (I guess he assumed that because it is a color photograph).

The question is, do you have a link to the original version? if so, it would be very useful to provide a proof at the debate (although I have left my opinion anyway).

Thanks in advance, Fma12 (talk) 23:15, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

Forget it, I've just found the original image (File:Dewar trophy 1914.jpg) which I had uploaded in 2016. Sorry! Fma12 (talk) 23:20, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

Football articles

Well, the "WP:Vandal" summary edit is totally wrong so I'm everything but vandal. Let's clear it. First of all, I have been here for over 18 years, and I have had edited (and created) tons of association football articles.

I'll explain you the changes made:

  1. The Clark logo is the company logo, not the football team emblem so why did you put it there? They are not the same thing. If I consider it could be removed, there is no vandalic edit on that.
  2. When you revert a change, you are changing ALL the modifications. And I had also added a "nowrap" template to the template:football box to align the 'Kearny Rangers' name. With your revertion, this change disappeared.
  3. My recent edits on U.S. football teams have been all in good faith and they have the purpose of improving the articles. You stated all without discussion. Some of these edits are questionable as to their improvement of the article. You sound angry at the changes, like if I or any user should ask you permission for editing. That's not how WP works. If you disagree with some change, open a debate on the respective article and ping the editor to discuss the point.
  4. Harry Holden on Commons: if you refer to this image, I was based on Commons:Overwriting existing files where it is recommendable to upload the file separately when the new versions differs significantly from the original.

Fma12 (talk) 09:49, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

2/3. I made one revert and a few other changes to incorrect data that I found. The words on the screen cannot 'sound' angry since they make no noise. I opened up a discussion on your page addressing edits I felt were not all helpful. This is how WP works. There was a point of discussion on here.
4. Libro0 (talk) 01:22, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
1. I have added a correct template (see edit summary) to 1887 American Cup. In some known competition seasons (such as 2020 Copa Libertadores final or 2023 UEFA Champions League final those "winners" boxes are not even included (in fact, the template format does not allow to include other emblems rather than flags).
2-3. I'll reply to that discussion explaining the reason of my changes about the American Amateur Football Association Cup. Regarding the merger of American Amateur Football Association to the USSF, I have never complained about this. TW: redirects have sense when ONE article is involved. But in the case of American Amateur Football Association Cup, the tournament had two editions so redirecting it to only one of them, is leaving work half done.
4. If you haven't noticed yet, I uploaded the color version as a separate file (here). 4.a) However the world always existed in color. Why you would remove a photograph depicting a subject in its known natural color makes no sense to me Well, a black and white photo is always preferrable in cases when technology of those times only allowed to take that kind of pictures. You mentioned "natural color" but those photos were digitally manipulated to add color to them. What is "natural" there? If everyone thought as you do, most of the images on Misplaced Pages should be removed.
Team photo on articles: when the team photo is available, it is usually displayed on the tournament infobx (like this). The File:AFAball.jpg is a generic logo, not the logo of the tournament/cup or de association itself. Why should this be a better image than the photo of the winning team? 'that' does not make sense to me. Fma12 (talk) 10:10, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
So in summary, there wasn't any significant point made here. I also did it for consistency which you disrupted. If you know that actual color palette of a subject I strongly encourage its use. Black and white is not natural it is merely the 'original' format of the media. I never said B/W must be removed, or 'color for the sake of color' especially if it is not correct color scheme. Clark O.N.T. were known to be crimson. In favor of, AAFA cup ->neutral, 1887 AFA -> Restore, 1896 AFA-> Restore.
As for the example of 1967 Intercontinental, well that photo is used twice in the article. Its not a team photo rather it is a 'group' photo. Haphazard at best. Appropriate at the lower part of the article but not in the infobox. The other team and actions photos are well placed. Team photos should be in infobox on team pages not tournament pages. This belongs in the infobox. Libro0 (talk) 22:48, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
Well, From the beginning, I have tried to be nice to you and try to reach a consensus, but instead I was met with a user whose attitude was hostile and less than cooperative. And my patience also has a limit. If your argument with phrases like So in summary, there wasn't any significant point made here. I see lack of creativity and imagination, my tone can't be as polite as it was at the beginning of this debate.
You are talking of "consistency" while putting an illustration of a generic low-quality ball but you dare to question other users when a photo of the winner of the season is included. I'm pretty sure that the image of the team is a much more representative image than any ball you randomly take from the web. Or in any case, leaving the infobox blank would be better than adding that awful ball. But calling "disruptive" to that edit, comes from a distorted point of view.
If you think that a customised "winner box" should be placed on the 1887 Cup article, go ahead.
Finally, the 1967 Intercontinental poster you show me fits perfect for the infobox. I could use it. Fma12 (talk) 09:39, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

1888 American Cup

I saw your most recent edit and am unfamiliar with a T-T scoreline, what does it represent? Also, what is Derby Transcript, without information except the date on the publication I find it difficult to find anything using that name? Thanks. Demt1298 (talk) 13:25, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

I have always been reluctant to add stuff without complete data but this one I went ahead and put in for completeness. It looked silly just having the replay without the original game. It was supposed to be a Tie game. Derby Transcript is a newspaper and they don't elaborate much on games.Libro0 (talk) 14:09, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
So it didn't report a score, just that it was tied? Also, the data about Derby Transcript (i.e. location) would allow other publishers to verify the data added. Demt1298 (talk) 15:06, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
You are welcome to go look at the microfilm or I can transcribe the Transcript here: November 16 states: 'A rattling game of football was played at Driving Park on Saturday, between the Ansonias and the Thistles of Newark, N.J. I didn't know what to do with this and since I haven't found anything else decided to just post it as is.Libro0 (talk) 16:11, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
Well I would suggest there are two options. If you used the Template:Cite news to use in the reference section, there is a quote section in that template that will allow you to quote the parts you assume suggest the tie. In addition if the data about Derby Transcript weekly paper (i.e. city, state) was added it would allow other editors to find on microfilm if doing research on the subject. The second option is to add the note section to Template:football box collapsible that the game is in and place in the note that the article did not list scores. Demt1298 (talk) 16:34, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
I added the note to the box. Derby is the town adjacent to the south of Ansonia in Connecticut.Libro0 (talk) 16:48, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
