Professional Experience and Honors:
2005: In his rookie season in the USL First Division, Ssejjemba (pronounced Say-gem-ba) made is professional debut on April 16th against the Atlanta Silverbacks. He registered three goals on the season, of which two were game-winners and was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week on July 5th for his game-winning penalty kick in Puerto Rico. A native of Uganda, Ssejjemba was called up to represent his country for two Uganda National Team World Cup Qualifying matches (Africa Zone) on June 5th versus the Democratic Republic of Congo and on June 18th versus the Cape Verde National Team in Ssejjemba’s hometown of Kampala.
College Experience and Honors:
A Virginia Intermont College (NAIA) soccer standout, Ssejjemba tallied 186 points over four seasons (75 goals, 36 assists) including 57 points (24 goals, 9 assists) his senior year. Robert was named to the First Team All-Appalachian Athletic Conference, First Team All-Region XII and was a two-time All-American. A two-year captain, Ssejjemba led the Appalachian Athletic Conference in goals (24), shots (79) and shots on goal (62) in 2004. He recorded four hat tricks his senior year, including a four-goal game against Union College on September 11, 2004.
In addition, last summer he was a member of the Kalamazoo Kingdom (PDL) where he led the team in goals (10), assists (6) and points (26).
International Experience:
Robert’s playing experience extends to the international level as he made his first appearance with the senior Uganda National Team on June 5, 2005 versus the Democratic Republic of Congo during the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany Preliminary competitions of the Africa Zone. A native of Kampala, Uganda, Ssejjemba played for the Ugandan under-18 and under-20 National Team before arriving in the United States to begin his collegiate career.

2006: Before signing with United, Ssejjemba helped the Richmond Kickers to the USL Second Division Championship. In 19 games, he led the league with 17 goals and added four assists as he was named the Most Valuable Player of the USL Second Division. 2001-04: The Kampala, Uganda native came to the United States on a soccer scholarship to Virginia Intermont College (NAIA). Ssejjemba had a tremendous college career, tallying 75 goals and 36 assists in four seasons. He was a two-year captain and led the Appalachian Athletic Conference in goals (24), shots (79) and shots on goal (62) his senior year in 2004. He also earned the honors of First Team All-Appalachian Athletic Conference, First Team All-Region XII and two-time All-American.

Washington, D.C. - D.C. United announced today that the team has signed Robert Ssejjemba on loan from the Richmond Kickers (USL-2). A member of the Ugandan national team, Ssejjemba was a part of the United reserve team and its 4-1 victory over Real Salt Lake last Sunday, September 10, scoring three goals in the second half. The 26-year-old forward will travel with United to Chicago tomorrow and will be available for selection in Sunday’s match against the Fire. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m. ET before a national television audience on espn2.

“We are pleased to have concluded a deal to acquire Robert and we look forward to his contributions to our club,” said United Technical Director Dave Kasper.

Ssejjemba, a native of Kampala, Uganda, has earned six caps - and scored two goals - with the full Ugandan National Team, including two World Cup qualifiers in June of 2005. RICHMOND, VA - (Friday, September 15, 2006) - USL Second Division Champion Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce that USL2 Most Valuable Player Robert Ssejjemba will join DC United of Major League Soccer on loan for the remainder of the 2006 MLS season. Although specific terms were not disclosed, Ssejjemba will be eligible to travel with DC United to Chicago this Sunday.

Ssejjemba played with D.C. United's reserve squad last weekend, in which he tallied a hat trick in the 4-1 win over Real Salt Lake.

Named USL2 Most Valuable Player, Ssejjemba consistently led the Kickers and the league in scoring this season, notching 17 of the Kickers 50 goals in 19 regular season games played. With four assists, he concluded the 2006 campaign with 38 points, 15 points ahead of second-place Mike Burke (9 goals, 5 assists, 23 points) and was a USL2 All-League First Team selection. In his second year with the Kickers, Ssejjemba was named to the USL2 Team of the Week five times over the season, more than any other Kickers' player, garnering USL2 Player of the Week honors twice.

Robert Ssejjemba (born 5 December 1980) is a retired Ugandan professional soccer player and the current coach of the Wayland Baptist University men's soccer program.

Career

Late in the 2006 Major League Soccer season he made one start for D.C. United, but was not signed to a professional contract by them. He then played the 2007 season with the Richmond Kickers before moving to the Charlotte Eagles for the 2008 season. In the 2008 USL Second Division final with the Eagles, however, an ACL injury ended Ssejjemba's playing career. He also made several appearances for the Ugandan national team, including qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup.

In 2009, he became the head coach of the revived men's soccer program at Virginia Intermont College, his alma mater. After the college closed permanently, he became the head coach for the University of the Southwest men's team from 2014 until 2019. In 2019, he became the head coach of Wayland Baptist University.
