The ], ] '''Fire Rescue Department''' is comprised of approximately 290 members who operate 9 Engine Companies(two of which-Engine's 5 and 6-are quints or combination engines and trucks), 3 Truck Companies, 1 Heavy Rescue Company, and 1 HAZ-MAT. company.<ref>Found on the Stamford FR about page http://www.stamfordfire.com/about/index.cfm</ref>. All of the apparatus with the exception of Engines 8 and 9 are staffed with a minimum of one officer (Captain or Lieutenant), one assigned driver, and two firefighters. Engines 8 and 9 have one officer, one driver , and one firefighter.

There is also one Shift Commander (Deputy Chief with DC Aide). The department operates on a 24 on/72 off schedule, averaging 42 hours a week{{Fact|date=November 2008}}.
