RIP Dravecky

It is with a heavy heart that I must annouce that Dravecky has passed away. He passed on April 23, 2016 while he was attending WhoFest in Dallas. He was 47.

Ed typically worked in the radio station areas, plus Texas and Huntsville history here on Misplaced Pages. He was a prolific DYK'er as well. Dravecky attended Georgia Tech and was a former disc jockey, hence his love for radio. He co-founded FenCon and was well known in the science fiction and fantasy convention world.

His friends and family have set up a GiveForward account to help with funeral expenses.

He leaves behind his longtime girlfriend Robyn, his family, his friends in the CON community and his friends here on Misplaced Pages. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 00:14, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

I have posted to AN regarding Dravecky's death; I knew him, and others in his family, in real life since the early Reagan administration, and can vouch for the fact that he was one of the most interested people I've ever known. I inevitably picture him as a high school student carrying around this book that looked like a Chilton shop manual called The Space Shuttle Operator's Manual; never for a minute since 1982 have I thought he would not have been entirely competent, through self-study, to have fixed or flown or landed any cognizable NASA craft. His RfA in 2008 was unopposed

Pedro and I nominated him for adminship in late November 2008. He was supported 66-0-1 in his RfA.

The Universe is strange indeed

One of Ed-the-science-fiction-fan's recent edits was his gnomish formatting fix on April 18th to the The Last Voyage of the Starship Enterprise, a Good Article about a 1976 Saturday Night Live sketch satirizing the cancellation of Star Trek in 1969.

Possible Memorial work?

Getting articles in wikipedia up to and keeping them at a reasonable level of quality can be, as a lot of us, a bit of a pain. But, if anyone could think of any such articles Dravecky might have considered ones he wanted improved, to the degree that my time at present would allow, I guess I would be willing to help to the degree I can. Alternatively, if there are public domain works which might be proofreadable over at wikisource which might be reasonably subjects of memorial efforts for him, and which don't involve as much updating and caretaking, I could try to offer some help there as well. Oh, no. I've only just heard about this. Dravecky was one of the good guys on Misplaced Pages - I had many discussions with him over the years, both about Misplaced Pages (mainly in the stub-sorting project) and our shared interest in science fiction.
