Is this bank called ''New York Bank '''of''' United States'' or ''New York Bank '''of the''' United States''? The name of the bank was The Bank of United States. "New York" does not appear in the name.

Nor was it headquartered in the Bronx. Its HQ was at Fifth Ave and 32nd St, Manhattan. When it collapsed in 1930 it had 58 branches in Brooklyn and Manhattan and the Bronx. see:

== Requested move ==
Suggest move to ].

There are plenty of sources that refer to this bank as "Bank of United States". I cannot find any that refer to it as "New York Bank of United States", except articles that quote or cite this article. (Notice it is "Bank of United States", not "Bank of ''the'' United States".)

There is a problem with moving this article, though. The intended destination is currently occupied by a redirection page. The simple solution would be to delete the redirect, move this page, and then place a disambiguation tag at the top of this article to correct anyone who is really looking for "Bank of ''the'' United States".

The process of moving a page to a location currently occupied by a redirect, without upsetting other Wikipedians in the process, is above my Misplaced Pages comfort level. I request the help of an administrator. --] (]) 05:02, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

:As an argument in favor of moving this article, let me point out that "New York Bank of United States" violates , because "Bank of United States" is the common name. (It is also highly dubious whether "New York Bank of United States" is even the correct name.) --] (]) 03:35, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
::] is a dab page, between two much better known institutions. This is not primary usage for name and should also be dabbed: ] and ] are reasonable choices. ] ] 15:42, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
:::NOTE: The RM is not for a move to ], but rather to ] (no 'the'), the correct name of the institution in question. --] (]) 02:30, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
::::Hm. I'm not sure that's enough distance between the name not to disambiguate, having confused them myself. What do others think? ] ] 16:30, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
:::::I tend to think that 'Bank of United States', since it is missing 'the' all important article, is an odd enough phrasing that it is unlikely to mislead. The way it is structured now, ] is a redirect to ], which probably explains how you ended up there. I'm also uncertain about alternative titles, all of which seem unnecessarily cumbersome. ] or ] etc. are less than ideal. Either way, I'm semi-agnostic on the way this goes because readers will arrive at the disamb page first and there will be no confusion. (Perhaps, we should relist for more opinions.)--] (]) 18:00, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
:::::Or, how about ]? --] (]) 18:01, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
:::::::There may be more than one defunct bank. There were a lot of wildcat banks in the 1830s, many with grandiose names. ] ] 23:34, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
::::::::Oddly enough, no. There are many xxx bank of THE united states (First, Second, etc.) but only one 'Bank of United States'. There have been more than one Bank of America but, apparently, most bank namers stuck with the grammatically correct 'the United States'. Plus, this was no wildcat bank. It was respectable but caught up in, surprise, over extending itself on mortgages and real estate loans!--] (]) 02:16, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
*I moved it to ] for the time being. We can discuss this further but I do want to submit it to DYK (can't do that while the name is still being decided). --] (]) 15:21, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

== Discussion on title. ==

We can discuss the title here. Please include you comments in the various sections below and feel free to add other titles. (Remember, this is not a vote, so please provide some reasoning!):

===Bank of United States===
*'''Weak support''' This was the name of the bank and the bank is important because it was the first major bank failure of the Great Depression (before this bank failed, failures were mostly limited to small regional banks and agricultural banks). The con is the similarity of the name with "Bank of the United States", of which there are many (First Bank of the US, Second Bank of the US, EXIM bank of the US, etc.). Still, I think that the pros marginally outweigh the cons because of the missing article. --] (]) 15:30, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
