The road was constructed in the 1960s to connect the ] ] in ] to the rest of Ontario. The town of Fraserdale became its northern terminus and the dam was built nearby. Construction began in 1963 and the road was finished and opened to traffic on ], ]. It was fully paved in 1971, and in 1977, the road was renumbered as ].

The first road numbered '''Highway 807''' was in the ] area in the 1980s. It became ] in 1989.

The road's designation was a temporary one, applied to a new highway that was being built between ] and ] in ]. Construction began in 1982 at the Atikokan (southern) end of the proposed routing. In 1986, construction crews began on the Ignace (northern) part of the road, working their way south from ]. ], the north and south portions of Highway 807 were linked. The road was officially opened to traffic in September 1989, nad renumbered from Highway 807 to Highway 622.
