==RE: Francophonie==
:Well, although dumplings and stuffed pasta are somewhat similar, there are fine dividing lines between the two. Things like ], for example, are blatantly not pasta. Please use better judgement when reverting a correction (in edit summary); I have restored 'polities', as 'politics' in the lead makes no sense as is. Thank you.
::I am sorry but I do not see it. We must be able to write down the definition of this "fine line" otherwise every editor will have his own.<br/>I just edited the ] article to try to clarify the definition. The strictest defintion, based on the Italian laws, calls for '''durum wheat flour''' allowing filled dumplings. However that leaves out the ] and ] and perhaps some foreign varieties made with non-durum wheat flour (but may still include some non-italian products; the Chinese use some wheat noodles too, and ] soup looks not very different from cappeletti in broth to me...). I then changed the definition to '''durum wheat flour or buckwheat flour''' to include the pizzoccheri, but I just learned that many Japanese noodles are made of buckwheat flour.<br/>I don't know what to do. My best idea is to go back to '''durum wheat flour''' only, with a note to the effect that "gnocchi and pizzochieri are often called pasta, even though strictly speaking they are not". What do you think? All the best, --] (]) 06:07, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
:::Wonton is prepared in a very different way and has a different taste and consistency compared to most stuffed pasta. Please explain what you object to at ]. Here are the changes I made (I also corrected a small grammar error and added a link to "Elections in Canada" in the "see also" of the Government section):

>>>

, and over 80% of the Canadian population lives within 150 ] of it. As a northern country, most of Canada is noted for cold winters, although summers can be quite warm and oranges and grapes are grown in some areas. It is also very urban, with over 80% of the population living in an urban or suburban area. Canada is known for its diverse natural beauty, wildlife, abundant natural resources, and its people's commitment to fairness and equality for all.

<<<

The two 80% figures are referenced later in the article under the section ]. I supposed I could have moved the reference up further, but that is not strictly required under WP. Are you questioning the "cold winters", "summers can be quite warm", or "oranges and grapes are grown"? I can certainly add refs for those if necessary (they are very common knowledge). Are you questioning "diverse natural beauty, wildlife, abundant resources, etc."? I can supply refs for those, but they are '''very''' common knowledge.

Also, in Misplaced Pages we generally don't just remove information because it doesn't have a reference. We use <nowiki>{{fact}}</nowiki> which looks like {{fact}}, and then if felt necessary post something to the contributor's page.

Anyway, what I was trying to do here was give some actual description of Canada and what it is known for, besides its long border with the United States. ] (]) 22:38, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Why have you edited the information about the parents of Ataturk ?.The references to www.the times.com I've found quiet reliable. == Removing content with no real reason ==

Hi,
You have removed, and redirected content on HD, 900p, HD table resolutions.., which is supposedly not standard. Are all WSX???GA resolutions standard. They are in use and many people would like to know what they are about and how they compare to other abbreviations. It is confusing enough for every day person to decrypt how many pixels his laptop/tv/monitor has, why confuse them more by removing content, which is there for the reason for people to understand, not to define some ISOblabla standard.
I see many people complain to you about similar stuff in other areas. Maybe focus on adding content, not removing, what is usefull.
Regards,
~~Noerr~~ <small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) 11:04, 21 April 2010 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

:You're basing all your content on misinformation and neologisms, so either redirect to the proper term or remove the incorrect info. Misplaced Pages is not the place to go making up random terms like "900p" or "49390220i" or anything of the sort just to inform the "tech novices" while doing away with standardized terms. Should we simplify the H1N1 outbreak article because some people won't understand what H1N1 stands for? ] ] <span style="color:#0000DD;">■</span> ] 19:34, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

:Also, this short paragraph you wrote on ] is almost completely nonsense:
::<small>With flood of 16:9 aspect ration laptops and LCD's, new and intermediate resolutions gets easily marked with p, since computers are only able to display progressive output, and also meaning that aspect ratio is fixed. Resolution 900p is not used in HD-TV standard, but it's rather popular resolution for computer use and will probably remain as a standard.</small>

== Samsung Global Scholarship Program - an advertisement by Samsung ==

The claim is
'''Reads as blatant advertising for Samsung with an arbitrary list of participates in the program. Possibly original research.'''

While the article talks about the program, how can that be seen as a blatant advertisement by Samsung? Samsung is neither advertising any of its products nor advising anyone to apply. If that were to be the case, it must be seen as the advertisement.

The list of the participants is far from arbitrary. Each of the participants listed either has completed the education or undergoing the study at the said institutes.

However, some of the references such as Samsung supports Seoul school and should be removed since they advertise Samsung's efforts. <small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) 13:48, 30 October 2010 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

== TOSHIBA Social practices in France ==

Dear Grayshi,

We are only reporting what was published in recognized French newspapers "LIBERATION" and "L'HUMANITE" of facts that do take place and were established as so. It is part now of history and you can not deny history. So this is not a violation of Misplaced Pages's neutral point of view policy. Unfortunately this was published only in french but this doesn't change the truth. Thank you for taking this into consideration.
Regards.

Removal of "non pastas"

Hi, you have removed some entries from the List of pasta article with the cryptic note "these are not pasta, not even close". Could you please explain your criteria? Specifically, why they are "out" while ravioli and gnocchi are "in"? All the best, --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 02:14, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Well, although dumplings and stuffed pasta are somewhat similar, there are fine dividing lines between the two. Things like mandu, for example, are blatantly not pasta. It's a bit difficult to explain; see the respective articles and hopefully you'll see why. GraYoshi2x► 20:27, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
I am sorry but I do not see it. We must be able to write down the definition of this "fine line" otherwise every editor will have his own.
I just edited the pasta article to try to clarify the definition. The strictest defintion, based on the Italian laws, calls for durum wheat flour allowing filled dumplings. However that leaves out the pizzoccheri and gnocchi and perhaps some foreign varieties made with non-durum wheat flour (but may still include some non-italian products; the Chinese use some wheat noodles too, and won ton soup looks not very different from cappeletti in broth to me...). I then changed the definition to durum wheat flour or buckwheat flour to include the pizzoccheri, but I just learned that many Japanese noodles are made of buckwheat flour.
I don't know what to do. My best idea is to go back to durum wheat flour only, with a note to the effect that "gnocchi and pizzochieri are often called pasta, even though strictly speaking they are not". What do you think? All the best, --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 06:07, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
Wonton is prepared in a very different way and has a different taste and consistency compared to most stuffed pasta. I think it would be safe to say that East Asian noodles can be excluded from the pasta list. And yeah, it would probably be better to change it back to durum wheat flour; adding buckwheat flour has a lot of unintended consequences, as you said, with noodles like soba. Canada

Please do not add or change content without citing verifiable and reliable sources. Before making any potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Please review the guidelines at Misplaced Pages:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. GraYoshi2x► 22:32, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Please explain what you object to at Canada. Here are the changes I made (I also corrected a small grammar error and added a link to "Elections in Canada" in the "see also" of the Government section):

>>>

, and over 80% of the Canadian population lives within 150 km of it.

<<<

The two 80% figures are referenced later in the article under the section Canada#Demographics. I can supply refs for those, but they are very common knowledge.

Also, in Misplaced Pages we generally don't just remove information because it doesn't have a reference. We use {{fact}} which looks like , and then if felt necessary post something to the contributor's page.

Anyway, what I was trying to do here was give some actual description of Canada and what it is known for, besides its long border with the United States. Facts707 (talk) 22:38, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Except the style isn't appropriate and is borderline POV. Just because we have a fact tag doesn't mean that anyone is allowed to post generalities on the overview section of a popular featured article. GraYoshi2x► 23:26, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks to User:Jeff G. for alerting me to the copyvio speedy deletion tag which you placed on 7Cs compass model. I hasten to add that it wasn't me who created the article, I simply moved it from the Talk namespace and did some basic cleanup - it seemed more promising that the usual crap that IPs create for fun in Talk pages. Anyway, it does seem like 218.230.127.136 is keen to see something on 7Cs so I have reverted it to my earlier version (just after my cleanup efforts) and invited the IP to try again using his own words. Ataturk's ancestors

Why have you edited the information about the parents of Ataturk ?.The references to www.the times.com I've found quiet reliable. There is a fact that Janissaries were not of turkish origin and being formally slaves in the Ottoman empire they still enjoyed very high ranks in the Turkish society. In my opinion this is a very specific feature of the turks ,that they can accept and give a respect to anyone who will convert to Islam and serve the country. So I think you should highlight this fact and even seek some reliable sources, or if you are rejecting these facts then give other references. ThanksAlekstigran (talk) 18:43, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Removing content with no real reason

Hi, You have removed, and redirected content on HD, 900p, HD table resolutions.., which is supposedly not standard. Regards, ~~Noerr~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by NoErr (talkcontribs) 11:04, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

You're basing all your content on misinformation and neologisms, so either redirect to the proper term or remove the incorrect info. Misplaced Pages is not the place to go making up random terms like "900p" or "49390220i" or anything of the sort just to inform the "tech novices" while doing away with standardized terms. Should we simplify the H1N1 outbreak article because some people won't understand what H1N1 stands for? Grayshi 19:34, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Also, this short paragraph you wrote on 900p is almost completely nonsense:
With flood of 16:9 aspect ration laptops and LCD's, new and intermediate resolutions gets easily marked with p, since computers are only able to display progressive output, and also meaning that aspect ratio is fixed. Resolution 900p is not used in HD-TV standard, but it's rather popular resolution for computer use and will probably remain as a standard.
My edits were made for a reason. People will probably leave your edits to be if they're factual and don't contain OR/speculation. Grayshi 19:39, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

UFT wiki pages

Hi; Thanks so much for your attention to the pages relating to the United Federation of Teachers and UFT President Michael Mulgrew. I'm in the process of trying to update the UFT page with key issues relating to the union's work and positions, as well as move union-related information to the UFT page from Mr. Mulgrew's page. Can you please assist me? 69.10.67.16 (talk) 18:29, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Gun Control

I am not affiliated with either Brady Campaign. Your edits have been consistent to paint a negative picture of Bill Brady for Governor. I'm sure there are many different ways to title each of the headings, and there should be a neutral ground. LGBT issues would likely be called 'gay marriage' in conservative circles. Finally, Second Amendment Rights is not a soapbox issue. Our second amendment rights in the US constitution were recently applied to the states by the US Supreme Court via their decision in McDonald V. Chicago. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.252.236.2 (talk) 19:25, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Y Marks the Spot/Bizarro Masterpiece Theatre on "Liquid Sky"

Hi, I'm a professional journalist who posted a review of "Liquid Sky" on its profile. After a bot automatically reverted the edit, I undid it, and then your profile reverted it again. (I'm assuming that your revert was automated.)

I feel that my contribution to the page is an important counterbalance to the general tone of the article. The article praises the film as a cult classic, whereas I feel that it is fairly ridiculous and incoherent. My link is not spam or advertising.

If you feel that my contribution does belong in the article, please re-include it, or allow me to. Ymarksthespot (talk) 19:59, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Misplaced Pages:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. —DoRD (talk) 22:42, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

St. Francis of Assisi

Grayshi, You reverted the additions I made to the St. Francis intro - which the page explicitly invites. Why? They were pertinent and gave a robust intro to St. Francis...much more effective than the minimalist intro currently being used. In fact, the current intro is so minimalist as to be almost misleading about St. Francis. Please explain. Thanks, Michael 99.62.29.46 (talk) 06:22, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

You're talking to the wrong person. I only reverted your addition of "skull", which seemed completely random. Grayshi 02:55, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Re: Chinatown Images

Yeah, maybe I overdid it a bit with the images in Chinatown, San Francisco. They were not intended to correspond with the text as with many othr pages here. If possible, could u please put them back, mayb like at the bottom of the page, or move them to a section for SF chinatown images? This way, whoever wants to look at them can. And, whoever doesn't, won't. Regards, MealMachine (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 19:34, 17 August 2010 (UTC).

Chinatown images

I removed 1 image, reinserted 2 images, and reduved the size of the images to take up less text space. Even after removing an image from L.A. Chinatown, there's still more left there than in the SF Chinatown page. Just thought I'd let you know. ~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by MealMachine (talkcontribs) 17:42, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Actually, you completely reverted me on multiple articles, then added more images. Misplaced Pages isn't an image repository and your edits simply aren't going to hold up to multiple policies and guidelines. (WP:IG and WP:NOTREPOSITORY are just a few) Grayshi 20:14, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi there. I'm pretty confused about your concerns expressed here and I've attempted to start a discussion here. Hope this helps, best wishes, DBaK (talk) 22:04, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

By the way

I only noticed the issues relating to Universal language due to your edit to Siemens , (which I approve of .. I've been meaning to sort out that myself for a while - not sure why I didn't remove it myself)..

Seeing as you have no problems with being WP:BOLD I might suggest you have a look at Hitachi if you have time - has similar issues. I would fix it myself but have problems deciding what is and is not notable.Sf5xeplus (talk) 21:30, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Samsung Global Scholarship Program - an advertisement by Samsung

The claim is Reads as blatant advertising for Samsung with an arbitrary list of participates in the program. Possibly original research.

However, some of the references such as Samsung supports Seoul school and Samsung Educational Programs on the Moscow State University site should be removed since they advertise Samsung's efforts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LAMBLAR (talkcontribs) 13:48, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Re:Largest employers

To me, looking at the who the largest employers are in a city gives me an idea of what the economy is like. As to the formatting, it is the formatting that I saw on other economy sections for largest employers; if it worked there, I see no reason why it wouldn't work elsewhere.--Shortride (talk) 22:22, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

I'd still rather have the San Gabriel, California data, limited as it is, than no data, but I can see where you're coming from.

I'm also concerned about your deletions of sourced, relevant material across several articles. the economy of a city is an important aspect. A list of the largest employers is an appropriate item in a city article, though personally I'd prefer it in prose form.   Will Beback  talk  23:55, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
I might have been a bit hasty in deleting that, yes, but a small portion of the city's history should not be a section lumped in at the bottom of the article, much less have a whole paragraph about it. I've since moved that into History of Pasadena, California. Grayshi 20:50, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks....though....

I've been called worse things by better people, as Trudeau quipped (quoting Wilde, I believe).Skookum1 (talk) 22:13, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Still, no one should keep such a blatant attack on their talk page... Grayshi 22:31, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
Grayshi, regardless of Skookum1's thanks, I would advise you to take great care with making such removals when you are involved in a dispute. Don't set yourself up as both debater and judge. Skookum1 is a big boy and can take care of his talk page. If you see comments of concern in an area where you're in direct opposition to the commenting party, bring it to the attention of a third party and let them decide what to do. Skookum1 and DocOfSoc have been going at it toe-to-toe for a while now, so I wouldn't necessarily advise even that. I notice too that you don't seem to have made any effort to notify DocOfSoc or discuss why such comments are inappropriate - so your action could be seen as provocative too. Franamax (talk) 22:46, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Deleting sourced material

Repeatedly deleting sourced, neutral material is disruptive. See Misplaced Pages:Editing policy#Try to fix problems. Please use the talk page to discuss your individual reasons for deleting material.   Will Beback  talk  00:09, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Points have been made by me and other editors regarding this "suburban Chinatown" nonsense. These fringe assertions do not belong in Misplaced Pages. It does not matter how many sources a neologism has; otherwise, it would not be a neologism. It is almost certainly not neutral considering how non-existent the usage of the term is. WP:UNDUE Grayshi 21:24, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
That's not the only thing you're deleting. I don't know if you feel you own these articles, but removing every contribution from established editors makes it seem that way. See WP:OWN. At a minimum, if you object to something that's well-sourced and neutral then you should start a talk page thread to explain yourself. As for the Monterey Park/Chinatown issue, I've started a thread at Misplaced Pages:Fringe theories/Noticeboard#Monterey Park, California. If you like, you can present evidence there that it's a fringe theory.   Will Beback  talk  22:47, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
No, I have no feeling of ownership over these articles whatsoever. But edits that simply add image clutter or unsourced or poorly sourced WP:SYNTH information, such as at Chinatown, Los Angeles leave me to few options. There's no way to compromise on irrelevant pictures that an editor insists on adding without any explanation as to why. Grayshi 22:53, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
You've decided, without proof, that MP is not a Chinatown and have repeatedly deleted any reference to that. You've decided, apparently, that information on famous restaurants does not belong in Chinatown, Los Angeles, yet you haven't bothered to use the talk page to explain your repeated deletions of that material. There are plenty of options besides deleting material you don't like. Please stop removing sourced, neutral material.   Will Beback  talk  23:31, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
You can't ask me to prove that Monterey Park is not a Chinatown; it doesn't work that way. Nonetheless, I, along with other editors, have attempted to respond and you brushed our reasoning aside as if they didn't matter. Not an ounce of evidence that those restaurants are any more notable than a noodle shop down the street, especially some run-down closed building that has been abandoned for years. Do tell of the significance of Little Joe's over, say, an abandoned apartment complex that was vaguely seen in the background of a movie. I am not deleting material because I don't like it. I am deleting it because some editors believe they are free to ignore the rules to push a minority agenda. Grayshi 20:25, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
If I provide proof that A=B and you say that's wrong then it's up to you to provide sources to support your position. Your "say so" isn't enough.
Your blind revert of the edits to Chinatown, Los Angeles, undid a variety of edits. It looks like you weren't even looking at what you were doing. That's really disruptive. If you continue to delete properly sourced, neutral, relevant material I'll have to seek community review of your editing.   Will Beback  talk  22:19, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
A variety of edits, all of which I explained in my edit summary. Calling it "disruptive" and accusing me of not paying attention is just plain insulting. I'm sure that being an administrator, you know that there are more policies and guidelines to Misplaced Pages than WP:NPOV (by the way, the text actually gives undue weight to minor features) and WP:V. A closed Italian restaurant that was shot in a few movies is hardly relevant to the subject of a Chinatown. Grayshi 21:20, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
No, your edit summary didn't explain why you reverted organizational changes to the article, for example. Why did you revert those without comment?   Will Beback  talk  22:31, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
It's hard to determine whether there was an organizational change or whether unsourced and possibly OR information was shuffled around and added. Grayshi 20:20, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
No, it was quite simple. I made two discrete edits, with appropriate edit summaries."orgnize, no text changes", "add Philippe's"   Will Beback  talk  21:47, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Then I apologize for missing that one organizational edit. Every other one was explained by my edit summaries. Grayshi 20:59, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
I accept and acknowledge your apology.   Will Beback  talk  12:57, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

TOSHIBA Social practices in France

Dear Grayshi,

We are only reporting what was published in recognized French newspapers "LIBERATION" and "L'HUMANITE" of facts that do take place and were established as so. It is part now of history and you can not deny history. So this is not a violation of Misplaced Pages's neutral point of view policy. Unfortunately this was published only in french but this doesn't change the truth. Thank you for taking this into consideration. Regards. Christophe92804 (talk) 19:32, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Just wanted to let you know the passage has been reintroduced, I am removing it now and have requested Christophe use the article's discussion to see if this information is true and if it can be presented in a neutral manner. Daniellis89 (talk) 17:54, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of ArcSoft ShowBiz

The article ArcSoft ShowBiz has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable software stub. Marked as single-source since 2007, the single source is link dead. Three incoming wikilinks, the software producer (which has the software in a list, with no content), a disambiguation page and a list page.

While all contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Stuartyeates (talk) 01:37, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Nomination of ArcSoft ShowBiz for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article ArcSoft ShowBiz is suitable for inclusion in Misplaced Pages according to Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Stuartyeates (talk) 08:11, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
