== Naming conventions questions ==
----

Dropping a line here to ask two questions I had when trying to make sense of the NC pages under this project.
So, there's not been much work on this in a while. Is this the proper place to make suggestions?

The first is this: was ] ever accepted or formally adopted? (I see, for instance, that ] was not, but there was ambiguity about the ANZ page.)
*A list of notable places near the station, perhaps crosslinked back from those places.
*The address or intersection of the station

The second is a thought. ] is occupied by a longtime historic proposal. Would it be worth archiving that elsewhere and, if the country stations pages have to be separate, creating a disambiguation page for the various railway station NC pages by country/region, or perhaps an overarching summary page for the nine NCs that are about or mention railway stations? The vast majority of links to it are archived talk pages. ] (she/her • ] • ]) 08:29, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
Any other suggestions? The project as it exists now is pretty bare bones.

:I don't know about the AUNZ page, but your idea for ] is a good one - we'd just need to include a link to where the historic proposal is moved to (] perhaps). ] (]) 11:08, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

== Commons Category placing in station articles ==
----

Hi, where should the Commons template be placed in, for example, station articles? Is it under References, External Links etc? The box I'm thinking of is this box {{commons category|Tattenham Corner railway station}}, using TAT as an example... ] (]) 15:20, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
Here's a proposal for the footer table:
:I believe that if the article already contains an "External links" section, you can add the {{tlc|commons category}} template at the top of the list of links (so that the box will appear to the right of the links). If it doesn't, you can add an "External links" section with {{tl|Commons category-inline}} as the sole entry. ] (]) 16:08, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
::If the article is short and the box gets shoved down by other things, then move it to the left or switch to the {{tl|Commons category-inline}} template. ] (]) 17:06, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
:see ]. ] (]) 19:09, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
:It always goes in the last section, which doesn't need to be named "External links". Don't create an external links section if all it would contain is the {{tlx|commons category}}. This should be clear from the template's doc. --] 🌹 (]) 12:09, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

== Project-independent quality assessments ==

Quality assessments by Misplaced Pages editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at ], but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent ] was approved and has been implemented to add a {{para|class}} parameter to {{tl|WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{tl|WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{tl|WPBannerMeta}} a new {{para|QUALITY_CRITERIA|custom}} parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. ] (]) 14:34, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

:If you find an article about a railway station you don't think is notable, the first thing you should do is look for sources. Google is a good place to start, but it is not sufficient on its own - note that most sources about railway stations are written in the local language and are very likely to be offline (especially those opened before the circa 2010s). If you have looked for sources in the places they are most likely to be and haven't found significant coverage then the content should be merged and the title redirected to the most appropriate higher-level article. The article about the line or system the station is on usually makes the best target but exceptions do exist. Only if you cannot verify that the station ever existed and/or that it was never a station is an AfD likely to result in deletion. ] (]) 11:42, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

Naming conventions questions

Dropping a line here to ask two questions I had when trying to make sense of the NC pages under this project.

The first is this: was Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (Australian and New Zealand stations) ever accepted or formally adopted? (I see, for instance, that Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (Taiwan stations) was not, but there was ambiguity about the ANZ page.)

The second is a thought. Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (stations) is occupied by a longtime historic proposal. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 08:29, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Thanks. XAM2175  23:40, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

The styling comes from Module:Adjacent stations/NSW TrainLink. Mackensen (talk) 00:24, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, and I gather that changing line 11 to read color: #ffffff000000; background-color: #f6891f; will do the trick. Do you know if this will affect any other application? XAM2175  02:00, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
It won't; those settings are only used for station infoboxes. You can preview the effect when editing the module. Mackensen (talk) 02:48, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
Brilliant, thanks very much. XAM2175  11:53, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

Third opinion requested

I would like a third opinion on whether the incident given in Division station (CTA Logan Square branch)#Accidents and incidents is important enough to include. This came up in a good article review. Steelkamp (talk) 16:43, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

If it's sourced and relates to the station (which it is - it happened there), then I don't see any problem it being there. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 17:31, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
I disagree - petty robberies like this were sadly common at train stations back in the day. They're generally not worth noting except for unusual incidents like the 1995 attack at Kingston–Throop Avenues station. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 00:23, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Misplaced Pages editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Misplaced Pages:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. SEPTA Metro page moves

The following are planned page moves per SEPTA's pending renaming of the following stations and services:

Cards84664 02:14, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Just noting that I talked to Cards84664 about this off-wiki. I'm fine with these moves. However, I'm wondering about the feasibility of splitting off SEPTA Metro (I theorized that it could be split off immediately, but looking at the sourcing on the SEPTA page, it seemed like most of the sources about SEPTA Metro were primary sources until I added some secondary sources just now). – Epicgenius (talk) 16:19, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
I think it's a little too early to implement these moves. The current SEPTA maps and current schedules do not include these new line or station names. However, the new "SEPTA Metro" name for the network as a whole is currently being used, so I do support an article split.
According to the official SEPTA Metro page, the changes to the line names will be made in 2024, although there is no precise date. Regarding those changes, the word "Line" (or "Lines") will need to be included in the title. Each lettered line will also have a number, even if it only operates a single service (e.g. the MFL will be "L", but its service will be "L1"). So do we include the redudant "1" in the title? That might need to be discussed. In the meantime, here are my suggestions for page moves sometime next year:
Dream out loud (talk) 08:27, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
Per SEPTA Metro's new terminology, an alternative could be T (SEPTA Metro lines) and T1 (SEPTA Metro train) (or trolley, but they're trying to get rid of that terminology). I don't intend to move these yet, this is just an early discussion to iron out the new naming conventions. Cards84664 14:50, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
I think the word "Line" should definitely be included in the title, and not between parentheses. This is pretty standard among all rail line articles (e.g. T Line (Sound Transit), B Line (Los Angeles Metro), Piccadilly line). –Dream out loud (talk) 15:41, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
From what I have been reading through, SEPTA is going for a NYCS approach, i.e. B (New York City Subway service). Cards84664 19:44, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
The NYCS network is a little different in the sense that there is a difference between "lines" and "services". For example, B (New York City Subway service) runs along the IND Sixth Avenue Line. Most networks don't differentiate between "lines" (i.e. physical trackage) and "services". –Dream out loud (talk) 08:47, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
Correct, in this instance B is the line and B1 is the service. Cards84664 16:20, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

Celje railway station

Is this really notable? I saw this during this month's referencing drive, but did not edit it. Bearian (talk) 02:14, 6 February 2024 (UTC)

One of the largest freight and passenger stations in Slovenia, nearly 180 years old, I'd be astounded if there weren't sources available to prove its notability. Probably the majority aren't in English though, and a sizeable proportion won't be online. Thryduulf (talk) 18:58, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
Thank you. Can we find some sources, please? Bearian (talk) 15:39, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

Train station notability

I have come across the Misplaced Pages:NTRAINSTATION page and found that many train station articles don't meet such a notability guideline. For instance, many articles in List of railway stations in Pakistan are purely the documentation of the stations' geographical location and nothing else. Does anything need to be done? If so, I may be unable to clean up all these articles and would require assistance. Pygos (talk) 08:21, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

If you find an article about a railway station you don't think is notable, the first thing you should do is look for sources. Thryduulf (talk) 11:42, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
archive.org may be worth checking. They have some non-English stuff. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:24, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

It seems that such a problem also seems persistent in . I picked out a handful of articles and saw Paloh railway station, Tenang railway halt, and plenty more seeming to not be up to the standards of WP:NTRAINSTATION. Pygos (talk) 13:25, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
The same answer applies to stations everywhere in the world: Start by looking for sources for that specific station, including those that are offline and/not in English. Thryduulf (talk) 13:34, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
Perhaps Matrix (talk · contribs) could consider those instead of British Rail stations. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:12, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
The main reason I investigated the British stations is because I live in the UK and those stations are stations that I know and have visited. I don't feel comfortable investigating stations in a foreign language (Malay) with foreign literature I won't understand. —Matrix(!) {user - talk? - uselesscontributions} 19:37, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
