Congrats on getting Rollback! Just a reminder, remember that it's only for blatantly unconstructive edits. If there are doubts, you should use one of the methods that allow you to leave an edit summary. You've been doing this well anyways, so I don't think that you'll have any problems. Again, congrats! Keep up the good work! <font color="#330099" face="Cooper Black">] ]/<small>]</small></font> 14:01, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
:Can you customize the rollback message? Because I noticed on some of the Huggle users who revert, the only think linked is the vandal's username plus the vandal's talk page link. The test I just did on my userpage was different. It had "Reverted" linked. - ] (]) 14:18, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
::There are ways to, but I've never used them. You can find about them ]. The only way I've ever done it is through Huggle, which does it automatically for you. Personally, what I do is use Rollback (ie the default edit summary) just for vandalism, and use Twinkle to give an edit summary. I saw your application, and decided not to oppose it this time. Please be careful ... with your history, you will be watched closely by a lot of people. A small mistake that would be ignored for another editor is likely to have consequences for you.—](]) 14:29, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
:That's very true. Plus, if you (Eugene) start using Huggle, mistakes get very easy to make, even for the most experienced editors. Try to always err on the side of caution. If there's any doubt at all, try to leave an edit summary instead of rollbacking. <font color="#330099" face="Cooper Black">] ]/<small>]</small></font> 15:12, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
], ], ] are correct uses of rollback, although usually you would also want to place an appropriate warning on the user's talk page regarding their unconstructive edit (e.g. for diff 16 I would've definitely sent a warning regarding adding spam links to articles).
== Rollback & warning for vandalism on ] ==
I see you have just been granted rollback privileges, please be mindful of how you are using it, a user you reverted and warned for vandalism ended up on my talk page confused and wondering what he had done wrong. All he did was overwrite a redirect to begin a legit article, not only do I see no reason to revert him in the first place, accusing him of vandalism was entirely uncalled for. Please be careful before you pull the trigger, we do not want to drive away good editors. ] <small>]</small> 17:36, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
But when it comes to reverting an edit that is constructive in at least some form of way, always try to provide an explanation why you had to revert that edit. Otherwise, the other editor will fail to see why their edits had been reverted, and just silently reverting edits without apparent reason is like a business kicking out a would-be customer who just wants to enquire about something there. — ] ] 01:09, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
:*Eugene, how many times is this going to happen before you learn to be more cautious and stop making unfounded vandalism accusations? Hi User:Amaury, I don't know if you got the message on Talk:Tanner Buchanan or not, but please: do not use rollback to revert edits that are not obvious vandalism, sockpuppet edits or anything that isn't under the valid criteria for the use of rollback.
I fail to see how diff 1, diff 2, diff 3, diff 4, diff 5, diff 6, diff 7, diff 8, diff 9, diff 10 are all correct uses of rollback under that criteria.
On the article Zoey 101, it's even worse. You edit warred with another user, by reverting their constructive change of the logo three times using rollback (diff 11, diff 12, diff 13). This could've easily resulted in loss of rollback privileges if someone had reported you to the administrators.
Diff 14, diff 15, diff 16 are correct uses of rollback, although usually you would also want to place an appropriate warning on the user's talk page regarding their unconstructive edit (e.g. for diff 16 I would've definitely sent a warning regarding adding spam links to articles).
