On the article ''Zoey 101'', it's even worse. You edit warred with another user, by reverting their constructive change of the logo <u>three times</u> using rollback (], ], ]). This could've easily resulted in loss of rollback privileges if someone had reported you to the administrators.

], ], ] are correct uses of rollback, although usually you would also want to place an appropriate warning on the user's talk page regarding their unconstructive edit (e.g. for diff 16 I would've definitely sent a warning regarding adding spam links to articles).

Anyway, I was reverting the IP address because it appeared to me that it was vandalizing pages, which might be true or partly true, but looking at the , it looks like he/she was also being reverted by another user; that's when I stepped in and figured that if he/she was vandalizing that page, then most likely his/her other edits were vandalism, but I could be very well wrong. And yes, I understand that users and/or IP addresses have the right to remove warnings and such from their talk pages, which indicates that they have read it, but to me it looked like he/she was trying to hide his/her warnings so he/she wouldn't get trouble (this happened a while ago with another user/IP address, and it turned out to be true), and he/she wasn't just removing them, he/she was using "Undo" to revert them. So there's the story. Whether you believe me or not is up to you. If you need any other details and such, let me know. Oh, and I'm not even going to bother putting up an '''unblock''' template. Hello. Sorry I missed your email before. You made a mistake, it happens. What's done is done. The important thing now is that you learn for it. In this case, I hope you learn that you should never just "step in" when you see an editor being reverted. I had noticed that this had been an on-going mistake that you make, even in one of our old review sessions (next to last block of text). I'd also noticed that in most, if not all, of your latest mistakes, another editor had previously reverted and warned the editor.

Remember, '''everyone''' makes mistakes. If someone else makes a mistake and you revert based on the original revert, then you are also making a mistake. When this happens, instead of helping, you are just compounding the mistake. Always use your own judgment. If you ever have to think whether or not an edit should be rolled back, then it shouldn't be. If you have to think, then, if you revert, an explanation can and should be given. If the edit does not fit the intentionally strict definition of ], then you are in a content dispute. Again, mistakes happen. Just learn from this mistake and become a better editor for it. I see that you got rollback yanked, which is a shame, because even though I've criticized you a few times, I think you mean well. My suggestion is that you stop using the Huggles, Twinkles, and rollbacks. Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?limit=500&tagfilter=&title=Special%3AContributions&contribs=user&target=Kww&namespace=0&tagfilter=&year=&month=-1 and notice how high my percentage of reversions is, but that I rarely hit the "rollback" button, and never use automated tools. I take the time to read every edit I revert, and understand what it is I'm doing to the article. It takes a little longer, and things don't seem to go as fast, but I don't make as many mistakes that way, I don't get blocked, and, if I get resistance, I'm able to explain why I reverted and recruit help. In the long run things go more smoothly and quickly. The main time I use rollback is for the truly, truly, obvious, like adding obscenities to articles.&mdash;](]) 12:09, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Warning: misuse of rollback

Hi User:Amaury, I don't know if you got the message on Talk:Tanner Buchanan or not, but please: do not use rollback to revert edits that are not obvious vandalism, sockpuppet edits or anything that isn't under the valid criteria for the use of rollback.

I fail to see how diff 1, diff 2, diff 3, diff 4, diff 5, diff 6, diff 7, diff 8, diff 9, diff 10 are all correct uses of rollback under that criteria.

On the article Zoey 101, it's even worse. You edit warred with another user, by reverting their constructive change of the logo three times using rollback (diff 11, diff 12, diff 13). This could've easily resulted in loss of rollback privileges if someone had reported you to the administrators.

Diff 14, diff 15, diff 16 are correct uses of rollback, although usually you would also want to place an appropriate warning on the user's talk page regarding their unconstructive edit (e.g. for diff 16 I would've definitely sent a warning regarding adding spam links to articles).

But when it comes to reverting an edit that is constructive in at least some form of way, always try to provide an explanation why you had to revert that edit. Otherwise, the other editor will fail to see why their edits had been reverted, and just silently reverting edits without apparent reason is like a business kicking out a would-be customer who just wants to enquire about something there. — AP 499D25 (talk) 01:09, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
