I saw your nomination to merge this article into ] as well. I disagreed with you in this case on both points. About the merger, and about your objections to wording. You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your ] or on ].
I saw a suspect on ], specifically, removing one of two idioms in Hebrew that are supposed to be equivalent. I was wondering if you would please:
#Confirm if the initial removal was justified (and restore it if it's a valid phrase)
#Verify the remaining quote (online translators are nearly useless for linguistic idioms)
#Provide a transliteration for both (since Hebrew isn't readable by most English speakers; I can read it with the vowels, but I can't read the shorthand with consonants only without making a lot of mistakes)
I'm assuming you're a fluent speaker of Hebrew, but I acknowledge I could be totally off on that; even if you are fluent, that doesn't mean you're familiar with modern idioms, so if you know anyone better suited to confirming it please pass along my request. &mdash;]&nbsp;(]|]) 21:54, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

::I kind of wanted the removed phrase to be real. It has a certain charm to it. :-) Oh well, thanks for helping out on the rest of the request. The translation of the Hebrew for the remaining phrase is odd though; without filling in words it doesn't seem to mean what I assume it to mean, which would be "All who disqualify due to fault do so based on their own fault." Am I correct that the "another" is an assumed word there? I might add it in if so; otherwise it looks like a proverb that simply says "If you screw up, it's your own fault," which isn't in the spirit of the English idiom. &mdash;]&nbsp;(]|]) 22:54, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

==Jewish populations in nations==
Dear IZAK,
Hello, IZAK,
I just wanted to stop by and thank you for your contributions and for very legitimately bringing to peoples attention an editorial bias that is not in line with WP policy. Having articles that present a multi-faceted Jewish issue as if it is a chabad-perspectived monolith does harm.

I saw your comment in ] about having spent time working on articles about Jewish populations in different countries. I thought I'd let you know that the following articles were PROD'd this week and I de-PROD'd them:
I would just share a thought that we all catch more flies with honey than vinegar and a calm tone will help us all work together.

So, you might want to look over these articles since the editor who PROD'd them is likely to send them to AFD. *{{ping|Liz}} Thank you so much for this notification and for your wise actions. It has been a long and arduous road to build up articles about the "History of the Jews in ____" on WP but they are all parts of a much greater whole as can be seen in ]. Now for someone not sensitive to the goals of the over-all project of building up a comprehensive history of the Jews in all countries on WP to start dismantling the articles bit by bit, we will be left with nothing in the end because there are only long histories of Jews that have historical records in relatively few countries. Please contribute to the AfD discussion at ] and cast your vote and make your voice heard, as a lot of the WP Judaic editors, see ] and ], have put in a lot of work into these type of articles over the last twenty+ years on WP but have since retired and cannot defend their work so it is up to me as a "lone ranger" survivor on WP and I cannot cope with such a large load of editorial and defensive work. I am only one man, so your help would be invaluable. Thanks so much for your understanding. Best wishes, ] (]) 04:55, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
:I am glad that you brought ] to our attention. Hi ], I saw that you requested the move of ] to ]. I explained on ]'s Talk page why I reverted, and you can read the previous move discussion that followed the last undiscussed move to that title earlier this year on the article's Talk. Generally, I would caution against mass-moving all Jews in articles to History of the Jews in , because a lot of articles pertain to very contemporary communities, "the Jews in X" implies that it's about one group called the Jews and what some of them got up to in this country, while many sources on these communities refer to, for instance, Moroccan Jews rather than the Jews in Morocco. <span style="position: relative; top: -0.5em;">꧁</span>]<span style="position: relative; top: -0.5em;">꧂</span> 16:30, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
Matt: See ] where I have detailed my reasons for opposing lists and categories of Jews on Misplaced Pages. I cannot by extension apply the same reasoning to Muslims or any other group. Each ethnicity, nationality and religion and its representative editors must decide what works best for them and what guidelines they should follow within the parameters of Misplaced Pages's policies. Thanks for contacting me. ] (]) 13:16, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
:Hi ], I appreciate that you feel differently about this than I do, but I feel the tenor of your responses—accusing me of {{tq|making up a new set of "criteria"}} to move the article {{tq|based on all sorts of unfounded and fanciful reasons such as "concisenes"{{sic}} and "Jews as foreigners" }}, is needlessly personal and uncivil. To be clear: you moved a page against prior consensus, got reverted as is standard procedure per ], and then started personally attacking the editor who reverted your undiscussed consensus-ignoring move. Please stop writing angrily about my fancifulness and baseless usurpation of twenty years of tradition, and I would appreciate it if you struck the irrelevant personal comments about me in your move request. <span style="position: relative; top: -0.5em;">꧁</span>]<span style="position: relative; top: -0.5em;">꧂</span> 22:37, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
:One could make a similiar page detailing why we should delete lists and categories relating to Muslims. It looks strange that you would be asking for people to delete lists/categories for Jews but have no comments about pages relating to Muslims or Hindus or people from other religion and say that you leave other people to decide about that. --] (]•]) 13:38, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
::{{ping|Zanahary}} Thank you for contacting me. I was expressing opposition to your own personal ] that runs against a clear ] of hundreds of editors over two decades on WP who have stuck to naming articles about the Jewish history of countries and cities etc as "History of the Jews in ___" and NOT as you would like to have it "Jews in ___". Your so-called "consensus" is virtually non-existent because you took advantage of a limited number of articles (3 it seems) and had one or two editors agree with you that over-ran what has been the accepted norm for over 20 years on WP. I am truly alarmed and my fear is that you will use your own precedents to overthrow the existing order of all the articles on WP titled as "History of the Jews in ____" and change them to your POV outlook. For the sake of focusing this discussion let's keep it centralized at ]. Thank you, ] (]) 02:42, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
::Matt: You cannot equate what applies to a small group of people like the 13 million Jews of the world, with almost two billion Muslims and over a billion Hindus. There are different factors at work. Muslims and Hindus do not have to face the historical realities of ] and ] that Jews have suffered recenetly such as in ] when almost a third of the world's Jews were killed in Europe by Nazis wielding LISTS OF JEWS. Therefore lists and categories of living Jews works in the favor of ] and other Jew-haters and may lead to deaths at the hands of antisemites. I am not sure that two billion Muslims and a over a billion Hindus have the same issues. While some rules of Misplaced Pages can be generalized, nobody said you should toss your brains and common sense out the window and come up with false conclusions and false absurd claims that Misplaced Pages is a generic society, when it is not. As I said, I don't know the way the Muslim editors function just like I don't know how the medical or scientific editors function and my expertsise and interests are not in those areas. I try not to be a smart alek and stick my nose into subjects I know absolutely nothing about and I advise you to do the same. Gotta go now. Take care! ] (]) 13:49, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
:::I’m not going to put comments about your conduct at the requested move discussion; they belong here and would be derailing over there. Accusing me of taking advantage (of what?) in an effort to push my POV across all of Misplaced Pages, apparently because I initiated discussions arguing for a revert of three undiscussed moves many months ago, is really way beyond reasonable. That I may have a minority view is not evidence of bad faith. Again, to recap: you ignored prior discussion and consensus to perform an undiscussed move, got reverted, and you are now accusing me of “alarming” POV-pushing and manipulation. Kindly stop casting aspersions, and again I ask that you strike the irrelevant attacks from your post at the move discussion. And in the future, please do not ignore prior discussions and consensus (if you don’t like the consensus ruling, that is neither my fault, as I didn’t close or enact the move, nor an excuse to ignore it) to perform undiscussed moves. <span style="position: relative; top: -0.5em;">꧁</span>]<span style="position: relative; top: -0.5em;">꧂</span> 02:52, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

Honestly I was not aware that you had blocked the 3 articles from being ]D as I did not look at the talk pages of those articles. I was going under the standard working assumption of over 20 years of editing "History of the Jews in ___" articles when I have many times moved articles titled "Jews in ____" to the correct form of "History of the Jews in ____" and have never had any problems until I ran into your ] attitudes for ], ], ] and experienced your unbending hold on the titles of these articles that got me thinking whether you would stop with these 3 and that you maybe had plans for the whole series of hundreds of articles titled "History of the Jews in ____" such as in ] etc. Again, please pardon any misunderstanding. Pirkei De-Rabbi Eliezer

I am reaching out to seek your assistance regarding Pirkei De-Rabbi Eliezer. A while ago, a template was placed listing items that needed correction. These issues have since been addressed. However, as I am relatively new here, I do not feel comfortable removing the template on my own authority. I would greatly appreciate your help in reviewing the corrections and removing the template if everything is in order. Thank you very much for your time and assistance. טל ומטר (talk) 07:02, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of History of the Jews in Cambodia

Notice

The article History of the Jews in Cambodia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Just because some Jews have lived in Cambodia does not make this a notable community

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Also:

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

Jewish populations in nations

Hello, IZAK,

I saw your comment in Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/History of the Jews in Cambodia about having spent time working on articles about Jewish populations in different countries. I thought I'd let you know that the following articles were PROD'd this week and I de-PROD'd them:

So, you might want to look over these articles since the editor who PROD'd them is likely to send them to AFD. Thanks for your contributions on the project. Liz 23:51, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

  • @Liz: Thank you so much for this notification and for your wise actions. It has been a long and arduous road to build up articles about the "History of the Jews in ____" on WP but they are all parts of a much greater whole as can be seen in Category:Jewish history by country. Now for someone not sensitive to the goals of the over-all project of building up a comprehensive history of the Jews in all countries on WP to start dismantling the articles bit by bit, we will be left with nothing in the end because there are only long histories of Jews that have historical records in relatively few countries. Please contribute to the AfD discussion at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/History of the Jews in Cambodia and cast your vote and make your voice heard, as a lot of the WP Judaic editors, see Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Judaism/Members and Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Jewish history/Members, have put in a lot of work into these type of articles over the last twenty+ years on WP but have since retired and cannot defend their work so it is up to me as a "lone ranger" survivor on WP and I cannot cope with such a large load of editorial and defensive work. I am only one man, so your help would be invaluable. Thanks so much for your understanding. Best wishes, IZAK (talk) 04:55, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
I'll consider your request but if I participate in a discussion, I can't close it and I think my expertise lies more in determining consensus than making arguments in support of Keep or Deletion. But, again, I'll review that AFD. Liz 03:00, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

History of the Jews in

Hi IZAK, I saw that you requested the move of Jews in Madagascar to History of the Jews in Madagascar. I explained on Jfdwolff's Talk page why I reverted, and you can read the previous move discussion that followed the last undiscussed move to that title earlier this year on the article's Talk. ꧁Zanahary16:30, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi IZAK, I appreciate that you feel differently about this than I do, but I feel the tenor of your responses—accusing me of making up a new set of "criteria" to move the article based on all sorts of unfounded and fanciful reasons such as "concisenes" and "Jews as foreigners", is needlessly personal and uncivil. To be clear: you moved a page against prior consensus, got reverted as is standard procedure per WP:RMUM, and then started personally attacking the editor who reverted your undiscussed consensus-ignoring move. Please stop writing angrily about my fancifulness and baseless usurpation of twenty years of tradition, and I would appreciate it if you struck the irrelevant personal comments about me in your move request. ꧁Zanahary22:37, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
@Zanahary: Thank you for contacting me. I was expressing opposition to your own personal WP:POV that runs against a clear WP:CONSENSUS of hundreds of editors over two decades on WP who have stuck to naming articles about the Jewish history of countries and cities etc as "History of the Jews in ___" and NOT as you would like to have it "Jews in ___". For the sake of focusing this discussion let's keep it centralized at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves/Technical requests#Contested technical requests. Thank you, IZAK (talk) 02:42, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
I’m not going to put comments about your conduct at the requested move discussion; they belong here and would be derailing over there. ꧁Zanahary02:52, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
@Zanahary: I have apologized at the discussion page for what may seem to you as my over-zealousness responding to your WP:POV. Honestly I was not aware that you had blocked the 3 articles from being WP:MOVED as I did not look at the talk pages of those articles. I was going under the standard working assumption of over 20 years of editing "History of the Jews in ___" articles when I have many times moved articles titled "Jews in ____" to the correct form of "History of the Jews in ____" and have never had any problems until I ran into your WP:OWN attitudes for Jews in Madagascar, Jews in Taiwan, Jews in Hong Kong and experienced your unbending hold on the titles of these articles that got me thinking whether you would stop with these 3 and that you maybe had plans for the whole series of hundreds of articles titled "History of the Jews in ____" such as in Category:Jewish history by country etc. Again, please pardon any misunderstanding. I do not see the need to strike anything as it's all relevant to this discussion. IZAK (talk) 03:10, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
