] A tag has been placed on ] requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under ], because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the ], such articles may be deleted at any time. Please ], as well as our subject-specific ]. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the ].

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding <code>{{tl|hangon}}</code> to '''the top of ]''' (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on ''']''' explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for ''speedy'' deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact ] to request that they ] the page or have a copy emailed to you. <!-- Template:Db-band-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> --] (]) 14:37, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

One italicizes variables, but not digits and not parentheses or absolute-value signs and the like. This is codified in ] and it done that way because it is consistent with TeX style, thus:

Merging article Bracelet to Necklace (combinatorics)

I'm recommending that the article on Bracelet (combinatorics) be merged into Necklace (combinatorics).

I saw that you had previously edited one (or both) of these article. You're invited to participate in the discussion here: Talk:Necklace (combinatorics).

Speedy deletion nomination of Tanya Markova

A tag has been placed on Tanya Markova requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. --moreno oso (talk) 14:37, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Misplaced Pages:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 03:03, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Ostomachion is so fragmentary that it cannot be said with any certainty what Archimedes did; what survives is geometry, not combinatorics. However, because it is a dissection puzzle, we can extract combinatorial problems from it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.217.37.24 (talk) 14:04, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Edit warring at Octavia Nasr

Please see the report about your edits at WP:AN3#User:Mhym reported by User:Meco (Result: ). You and User:JohnAlabamaNestroy have both been cited for edit warring. Refudiate

You proposed this redirect for deletion on July 20th; the {{prod}} template was removed, as it can't actually be used for redirects. However, I have nominated it for discussion at RFD, and your comments are welcome at Misplaced Pages:Redirects for discussion/Log/2010 July 24#Refudiate. Robofish (talk) 17:27, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Daniel Biss

Hi Mhym,

Did you want to renominate the Daniel Biss article for deletion? If you want to let me know your deletion rationale I can fix the nomination for you. Dylanfromthenorth (talk) 10:35, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

  • I've nominated it for a speedy delete under WP:CSD#G4 as recreation of deleted material. Without being able to see the article in it's previous incarnation I don't know if it's significantly different enough to get through a speedy delete (if its substantially different it won't get deleted). If speedy is declined we can take it to Afd again. Dylanfromthenorth (talk) 21:10, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Jennifer Rubin (journalist)

The article Jennifer Rubin (journalist) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable journalist. Fails at WP:AUTHOR and WP:GNG. Sources provided are not WP:RS compliant.

While all contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Kudpung (talk) 08:20, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Mhym. An article you created may not comply with Misplaced Pages requirements. Please consider visiting the article and addressing the various issues. Thanks.--Kudpung (talk) 08:27, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Jennifer Rubin (journalist) at DYK.

Hello. It doesn't look like anyone informed you, but your Did You Know nomination of Jennifer Rubin (journalist) has received several comments that would need to be addressed before the article could be promoted to a hook. Please review and address. Grondemar 06:52, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Moses Bloom

Hello! Your submission of Moses Bloom at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Location (talk) 07:14, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

FYI: At the above page I posted a source that appears to contradict that Bloom was the first Jewish mayor of a major American city. I imagine a lot of this is open to what a particular author thinks is "major". Location (talk) 20:22, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:SimoneWeil.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:SimoneWeil.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Misplaced Pages constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — ξ 22:33, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited Lori Zaslow, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Matchmaker (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Dynkin

Hello; a few years ago you made this edit to the article Eugene Dynkin. Recently that sentence was removed by an IP editor (diff), citing a personal communication with Dynkin (he probably read his own Misplaced Pages article, and found the mistake). Without a reliable source that states why he was forced to transfer universities, this information shouldn't be in his biography anyway. Just thought you might be interested. The file is currently unused and has been replaced by the image http://en.wikipedia.org/File:Borsuk_Hexagon.svg. There is nothing wrong with the source or license, but in my view, I feel the jpg is redundant. User:Zscout370 07:25, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Disambiguation link notification for November 27

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Vladka Meed, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jewish resistance (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Replaceable fair use File:Takehy.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Takehy.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 15:18, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Vladka Meed

Updated DYK queryOn 7 December 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Vladka Meed, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Polish Jewish resistance fighter Vladka Meed was a central source of the 2001 television movie Uprising? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Vladka Meed. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Don't italicize indiscriminately

Please do not indiscriminately italicize everything in non-TeX mathtematical notation.

|G| = 2 (right)
|G| = 2 (wrong)

One italicizes variables, but not digits and not parentheses or absolute-value signs and the like. This is codified in WP:MOSMATH and it done that way because it is consistent with TeX style, thus:

| G | = 2 N {\displaystyle |G|=2^{N}\,}

And proper spacing should be used, thus:

|G| = 2 (right)
|G|=2 (wrong)

Also, in page ranges like 34–51, one uses an en-dash, not a stubby little hyphen. Michael Hardy (talk) 17:47, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. A dispute about Daniel Biss is now at the BLP noticeboard

Please see WP:BLPN#Daniel Biss. You may add your own comment in that discussion if you wish. An editor has expressed concerns under the WP:BLP policy about some of the material you have been trying to add. Most likely they are talking about this edit by you. My suggestion is to wait for consensus before trying to add it again. Personal blogs are usually not considered to be reliable sources under BLP. Edits that *do* violate BLP can be reverted by others without penalty of WP:3RR, and there is a risk you might be considered to be the person at fault. Serendipity

Because the word was created, I assume serendipity exists. And I agree she is notable. Actually she is automatically notable I think because she has a name chair position. And everything else is just gravy supporting her being notable.

If admins are helpful by letting us see the old draft of the article, for its footnotes (this one has a lot of the same text but not the footnotes) and its relevant added text, I think we can improve the article and hope it will pass DYK. Just waiting on the admins. --2604:2000:E010:1100:B951:7500:D62B:D57A (talk) 05:33, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

Here, see why this was so weird! Just when the draft of this subject was cleared of any question of copyvio, a review it had been sitting awaiting for a couple of days for all to see, as it awaited promotion to article status -- that was the very same day of all days that your article was created! https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=User:DGG/Amy_Wax_temp&diff=891237124&oldid=890983584 And its not as though she was in the news that day, or week, or month. And as you can see, the article that had been put up for review prior to your draft is very similar (except for the last paragraph that yours added). https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Amy_Wax&action=history 2604:2000:E010:1100:5556:69C2:7421:D539 (talk) 08:33, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Friedrich Eisenbrand

Notice

The article Friedrich Eisenbrand has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

academic who does not meet the academic's notability guideline or the GNG. I looked for information on the web and, while he has a significant number of papers, he does not appear to have a large impact on his discipline yet. The only claim of significance this article makes is that he game a talk at an international symposium, which is not a sign of notability. The listed source is not reliable (and does not land on a page that includes information on Friedrich Eisenbrand), and the link to his website at EPFL is similarly broken.

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Elizabeth Wilmer

Look at Wilmer's Google scholar citations (especially for the book) and look at WP:PROF#C1. Look at the book reviews and look at WP:AUTHOR. Look at the newspaper coverage of her and look at WP:GNG. Look at the clear statement in the article of what she is known for. Look at the requirements of A7 that there be not even any suggestion in the article of something that might be notable, far below the requirement that the subject actually be notable. And then remove your inane speedy tag before someone else has to remove it for you or before someone else acts on it and your inanity reproduces itself. —David Eppstein (talk) 05:53, 24 November 2019 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Antoni Zygmund.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Antoni Zygmund.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Misplaced Pages. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
