==History==

The first page used for tracking vandalism was a user subpage, ], some time before 4 November 2001. The vandalism in progress page was established as VANDALISM IN PROGRESS - the title was upper-case to make it easily distinguishable on ]). Around the same time, the Misplaced Pages Militia (since renamed to the ]) was formed to coordinate responses to press releases about Misplaced Pages. The "VANDALISM IN PROGRESS" page was moved to the Misplaced Pages namespace in August 2002 and was renamed to the current title in 2006. Its archives since 2003 may be found in ] and the talk archives since august 2002 can be found in the history of ] and in text form as subpages of ]. Old subpages can also be found through ]. the ] page also grew out of "vandalism in progress". A section on the "vandalism in progress" page for persistent vandalism was added in ], later ], and then re-created as ] in September 2004; in December 2004 it was ] to ], titled ].

Because this page is an important part of Misplaced Pages's countervandalism process, vandalism is assumed to be in bad faith. It is carefully monitored and clear vandals may be blocked immediately.

Don't worry about making mistakes; the difference is usually obvious.

*{{article|National Lawyers Guild}} - Several editors have been blanking about 75% of the content on this article for most of the day. The change they keep making is the one here and it changes this article from four detailed paragraphs to only one. The original edit where this change was made also has an Edit Summary that shows it is being done for political reasons . This vandalism happened all afternoon by an anonymous guy who blanked it 3 times as an anonymous and is probably the same guy who made the original delete. Three different people spent the afternoon restoring the article against this vandal - me, ], and ], who also left the anonymous vandal a warning. Then this evening ] began an edit war to restore the blanking. When I told Calton it was vandalism he attacked me (accused me of McCarthyism ) and said my definition of blanking was wrong since he was only deleting 3/4ths of the article . I showed him the definition of blanking from ] that says Blanking is "Removing all or significant parts of articles." Calton ignored this and keeps reverting to the blanked version of it. He is also being helped by ] who has posted several rude and inconsistent block threats against me on my talking page for undoing the blanking and for other political disputes - an abuse of his sys-op power. Somebody who is neutral please help! -- ] 06:51, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

* {{article|Patricia Ann Priest}} - The latest in a long line of "" sockpuppets (] and ]) are being used to revert this article to a version that violates ] (specifically, using "1960's" in place of the correct "]". The individual has been given the benefit of the doubt (only as a formality) and has been asked to consult the style manual before he edits again, and has been nothing but rude and confrontational in response. Reported here so that this user can be corralled and avoid this turning into another needless 3RR debate/debacle. - ] 02:59, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

:Please keep whatever petty little persecution wars you believe you may have out of an entry of this magnitude, Chad. There is no "edit war" and there is no "sockpuppet" in place attempting any so-called "edit war." You have been informed on this prior to your posting in here; please stop trying to manipulate the Misplaced Pages administrators into doing your warped dirty work for you. It would be most appreciated. As for being "rude and confrontational in response," your behavior on Misplaced Pages speaks for itself, Mr. Hypocrite. You were told that any remarks you left on my talk page would be removed or reverted; there is even a statement at the top of the page stating so, and it has been there long before you decided to throw one of your cyber temper tantrums on Misplaced Pages again as you are doing today. --] 03:04, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
* {{article|Jimmy Wales}}, {{article|Angela Beesley}}, {{article|Cosmopolitan Party of Canada}}, {{article|Misplaced Pages}}, {{article|Brian Mulroney}}, &c - IPs from ] and ] (probably narrower ranges) have been spamming to get content removed from the article ]. Keep an eye on them; a limited range block might or might not be effective. ]] 20:42, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
* {{article|Oral sex}} - An anonymous user using various IP addresses at the University of Houston, who signs his edit summaries with "Nathaniel", continues to delete images from this page. It is difficult to warn the user about this as he uses a different IP address for each edit. While technically not violating ], history shows that this user has removed the images 4 times since February 21. The user is also engaging in wikistalking (see that was removed as a personal attack, indicating that the user found this page from my user contributions page and chose to edit it because of his dispute with me over a different article). His comments on imply that he thinks I originally uploaded these images to Misplaced Pages, and that he is removing them because of his prior dispute with me. In to the talk page, the user indicates he is aware that Misplaced Pages is not censored for the protection of minors, but that nonetheless, he intends to continue removing these images. I suggest semiprotecting the article or temporarily blocking this IP range. ] 07:35, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

* {{article|NiMUD}} - ] continually reverts edits without any reason other than to revert to his own version, doesn't cite and fails to heed warnings against his vandalism by many users who are working on that page. We're fed up with it and request he be banned from editing the article. We've given him 7 warnings. he reverts the page daily to his own version, doesn't add anything, and fails to cite when he does, often overwriting already cited texted or just plainly vandalizing the page back to his own version out of vanity. He's been exploiting the 3RR rule by creating revision wars and then requesting others be banned who stick up for the article's progress. His version that he keeps reverting to is over two weeks old and is not nearly as extensive nor concise. He cites rules like "article length" which is not a Wiki rule. // ] 02:45, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
** Presumably, admin actually do look at stuff before randomly banning people based on what some anon person says. This report is a retaliatory accusation based on the 3RR reports which I made against him and his sock puppets. A few days ago he violated 3RR as Eggster and an IP, got banned for 24 hours, got proven to be the same person via CheckUser, then created a new user name and went onto another IP at the same computer lab, and violated 3RR by doing 4 reverts on the 14th and at least 4 more on the 15th. Please point out what you feel is vandalism, as the admin don't have time to look at every edit of mine and try to figure out which one you think is vandalism. The temporary lack of discussion on the talk page may have had something to do with when you blanked the talk page. Also, the "article length" edits have all been by you; all of my own edits have been discussed and supported on the talk page, while none of yours have been. ] (] • ]) 12:37, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
** 151.201.48.208 is the vandal. He's the only user on the page using multiple socks and continually makes really dumb mistakes in signatures and then redits them with different user names. He's even reverted an Admin on the page in question. Surely this report is retaliation for multiple reports of 3RR violations on his part. See ] 13:45, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
* {{article|Calvin and Hobbes}} - Over the past month or two, there has been a repeated effort to change the setting to "western New York" by a number of registered and unregeistered users. The registered user (there may be more than one) seems to have registered the account '''specifically''' to edit this page. There is verified source material (the West interview) that specifically describes the setting as "midwestern" in character. Other than a constant edit-revert stalemate, something should be done. Please use Misplaced Pages:Administrator intervention against vandalism as an alternate venue for cases of simple vandalism that require an immediate block and Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents for cases that require further investigation.

Old instructions for this page

Choose one of three sections to make a report: Watchlist, IP addresses, or Registered users. Follow the recommended format for each section including the heading markup. Place the request at the top of the New requests subsection or the top of the watchlist. Provide page diffs from edit histories if appropriate and links to specific problem pages.

History

The first page used for tracking vandalism was a user subpage, ManningBartlett/Naughty people, some time before 4 November 2001. The vandalism in progress page was established as VANDALISM IN PROGRESS on 1 December 2001 - the title was upper-case to make it easily distinguishable on recent changes). Around the same time, the Misplaced Pages Militia (since renamed to the Volunteer Fire Department) was formed to coordinate responses to press releases about Misplaced Pages. The "VANDALISM IN PROGRESS" page was moved to the Misplaced Pages namespace in August 2002 and was renamed to the current title in 2006. Its archives since 2003 may be found in Misplaced Pages:Requests for investigation/Archives and the talk archives since august 2002 can be found in the history of Misplaced Pages talk:Requests for investigation/Archive 4 and in text form as subpages of Misplaced Pages talk:Requests for investigation. Old subpages can also be found through special:Prefixindex/Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress. the long-term abuse page also grew out of "vandalism in progress". A section on the "vandalism in progress" page for persistent vandalism was added in February 2004, later abandoned, and then re-created as "Ongoing alerts" in September 2004; in December 2004 it was split off to its own page, titled Misplaced Pages:Vandalism in progress/Long term alerts.
