I saw your {{diff|Misplaced Pages:Bureaucrats%27_noticeboard|prev|1136736052|emotional outburst at BN}}. I want to remind you that adminship is about a toolset to help our community of editors. We need admins to block vandals, protect pages, and other sundry tasks. You cannot claim to have been demoted because you were never better than the rest of us to begin with, especially not on the basis of ]. The editing community resents admins like you who treat "teh bit" like ], which is why the community has made RfA and the rules regarding de-adminship more and more strict. Your behavior is why adminship is a big deal. It would be better for you to have pride in having served the community back in 2004, rather than complain you deserve lifetime merit on this website. Had you made your adminship about the toolset helping the community, you would still be active and contributing. That said, we do not expect that you are always available on this website forever. You have a life and you can leave this website without concerning yourself about a userright you stopped using. ] (]) 02:00, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

:Rest assured that not everyone in the editing community shares {{U|Chris troutman}}'s opinion. It's a good thing Chris is a '']'' because statements like this probably kill any chance they might have of becoming an admin themselves. I'm sympathetic to your opinion, Merovingian, but alas, I guess I'm in the minority on this issue. I think inactive admins are ''no big deal'', except for the few whose accounts have been hacked, and, we can deal with that. – ] (]) 18:15, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Misplaced Pages history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. ==Three weeks of admin tools==

Today three weeks have passed since I was granted access to the administrator toolbox. During this time I have made use of it in the following way:

*Protections and unprotections: '''1'''
*Blocks and unblocks: '''4'''
*Deletions and restorations: '''69'''
*Rollbacks: '''246'''

I've found that the rollback tool is much more useful than I'd thought for vandalism patrol. In fact it makes that task so easy that I've been doing it more than before. On the other hand I've been surprised by how little the blocking tool is needed. Having done a significant amount of vandalism patrol I have still only blocked one solitary vandal. The great majority of addresses which send out a vandal edit do so only once. Those who do it more often usually stop after a warning or two. Only rarely is a block actually needed and in those cases someone usually beats me to it.

As a side note I haven't retired from writing articles either. I'm still hoping to bring ] up to featured status but even though I've already performed more edits on it than on ] back in the day, a lot of work remains to be done. Community expectations for featured articles have gone up and so have my own ambitions. I'm currently waiting for a couple of books I ordered to arrive and then I may be able to make the final push.

I'm trying my best to live up to the trust you showed in me by supporting my RFA. If ever you feel uncertain whether I'm using the admin tools in the best interests of the project, let me know. I am at any time willing to relinquish the mop and reapply for it to address concerns people have and ensure that I'm not using the admin tools without being trusted to do so. ] 22:33, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Merovingian - you left a nice welcome note on my talk page a couple of months ago, and I'm wondering if I can call on you now. An admin ] got another admin to protect the ] page after another high level Wikipedian (not sure if he's an admin) ] had made a plea for developing the page. I had already offered to address ]'s sourcing concerns on the Talk page. I feel like ] has some sort of emotional investment since he's using words like "fuck" and "stupid" in the edit summaries, and it's possibly because (according to his user page) he lives in an area that's dominated by Kaiser as an employer. I believe the Third Party admin who protected the page just saw what FYCTravis was making a request to a fellow admin, and he didn't check the Talk page for my request for help with the sourcing. Is there anything you can do to get this page unprotected again?

I'd also like to remove the Peer Review request (I was told this was inappropriate by ] - and I put a request in the Delete queue tonight: just not sure if I formatted it properly) and the NPOV label (there are many POVs in play, but this label was placed by someone trying to devalue everyone else's opinion, and he hasn't been around for a few weeks. Suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Information icon Established policy provides for the removal of the administrative permissions of users who have made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period. Your administrative permissions have been removed.

Subject to certain time limits and other restrictions, your administrative permissions may be returned upon request at WP:BN.

Thank you for your past contributions to the project. — xaosflux 02:23, 1 January 2023 (UTC)

a username from a Matrix movie is so "early 2000s"

I saw your emotional outburst at BN. I want to remind you that adminship is about a toolset to help our community of editors. We need admins to block vandals, protect pages, and other sundry tasks. You cannot claim to have been demoted because you were never better than the rest of us to begin with, especially not on the basis of your joke of an RfA. The editing community resents admins like you who treat "teh bit" like a trophy, which is why the community has made RfA and the rules regarding de-adminship more and more strict. Chris Troutman (talk) 02:00, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

I do not respect the kind of person who would post such a comment, and am surprised it was you, Chris. I hope it made you feel really good to write it, at least, so it isn't 100% worthless. Shame on you. --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:34, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
Rest assured that not everyone in the editing community shares Chris troutman's opinion. It's a good thing Chris is a non serviam because statements like this probably kill any chance they might have of becoming an admin themselves. I'm sympathetic to your opinion, Merovingian, but alas, I guess I'm in the minority on this issue. I think inactive admins are no big deal, except for the few whose accounts have been hacked, and, we can deal with that. – wbm1058 (talk) 18:15, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Hey

Just wanted you let you know that there are still people who remember the old days and when Misplaced Pages was a less formal and more fun place. There are still good things to do here and good times to be had here, with or without sysop rights. Andre🚐 02:24, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Thanks from me as well since I didn't actually say thanks. In fact Merovingian, you supported my RFA and 2 of my RFBs. I'm sure I thanked you at the time. But I am not an admin/bureaucrat any longer and I am still editing here. Cheers. Andre🚐 17:47, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Uuvudhiya

Notice

The article Uuvudhiya has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not exist. None of the sources mentions this as a populated place, only as a name of the constituency. At the coordinates there is nothing. Uuvudhiya constituency office is at Engombe, says https://oshanarc.gov.na/uuvudhiya

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Deletion discussion about Virtualization Development

Hello Merovingian, and thank you for your contributions to Misplaced Pages.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Virtualization Development, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Misplaced Pages in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Virtualization Development.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Wasianpower}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
