Italian & Portuguese sources, when the Serer were nowhere near the area (and, indeed, a time when there was no communication between the Serer and the Portuguese), is "backed by archaeological, migration and historical evidence", which seems very bizarre assertion. "Nowhere the area?" Where were they then in Mars having a cup tea and some bolo rei with Prince Henry the Navigator? Yes! The Serer people were not in communication with the Portuguse but I suggest you take a look at where this statement was made. In "]" with respect to the Wolof account. I suggest you look at the sources especially Diop etc. The Serer people know their history, language, religion and land better than any 15th century European slave trader like Alvise Cadamosto and his ilk, who hardly was in contact with them. Although the Portuguese tried to make contact with the Serers in 1446, almost all the adult members of that ship succumbed to Serer poisoned arrows. Serer Country is very verse and their language is embedded in the Wolof language who were in contact with the Portuguese. Take a look at the sources and where such account was made rather than coming here with your typical arrogant tone.

"Abû- Bakr ben 'Omar, le guerrier almoravide blessé par Amar Gôdômat et partant pour Chinguitti, eut, avec son épouse Fâtimata Sal (femme torôdo qu'il avait mariée dans le pays), l'entretien suivant «Je souffre horriblement, lui dit-il, de ma blessure, j'en redoute les suites. Je vais donc te quitter pour aller me soigner dans mons pays. Je sais que tu seras mère dans quelques mois. A ce moment-là, je serais loin de toi. Mais dès à présent, je t'accorde ta liberté, tu pourras donc te remarier. Mais, quand tu éprouveras ce désir, il te foudra choisir un homme pieux (nit ku dyullitê), un homme sincèrement converti à l'Islam (ku tuubom wôôr), un homme qui sait lire le Coran (ku mon dyanga alkhoraan), fait ses ablutions (di-dyap) et ses cinq prières (di-dyulli dyurorn-i dyulêê-m), conformément aux prescriptions de la sainte religion (ni-ko-ko diinê tôrolê). Fâtimata Sal, qui était alors enceinte de quelques mois, essaya d'observer avec fidélité les conseils de son mari. Ce dernier partit aussitôt pour son pays natal. Pendant qu'Abû-Bakr ben 'Omar faisait ses recommandations à sa femme, un jeune homme du nom de Mbârik se tenait caché dans un coin de la chambre de Fâtimata Sal. Il avait ainsi échappé à leurs regards et n'avait pas perdu un mot des paroles d 'Abû-Bakr. Les chroniqueurs ne s'accordent pas sur l'origine de ce Mbârik. Les uns prétendent qu'il fut confié, tout jeune, à Ibn 'Omar, au cours de ses voyages au Soudan. Les autres, plus nombreux, soutiennent qu'il avait été acheté (dyend-on) par le chef almoravide. Quoi qu'il en soit, quelques mois après le départ d'Abû- Bakr ben 'Omar, Fâtimata Sal accouchait d'un garçon, auquel on donna le nom d' Amadou Boubakar Ibn 'Omar. Nous verrons à la suite de quelles circonstances il fut surnommé Ndyadyan Ndyay et devint premier Brak du Wâlo et grand ancêtre de la famille royale du Dyolof ( maam-u Ndyay-i moom Dyolof). Quand, plus tard, Fàtimata Sal voulut se remarier, il se trouva qu'aucun homme du pays ne remplissait les conditions religieuses exigées par son ex-mari, à l' exception toutefois de Mbârik, ce jeune homme qui avait, si secrètement épié les recommandations d'Ibn 'Omar à sa femme. Fâtimata Sal décida donc se marier en seconde noces avec Mbârik. Elle s'en ouvrit à son fils, Amadou Boubakar Ibn 'Omar, devenu alors assez grand pour donner son avis sur la question, comme le veut la religion musulmane. Amadou Ibn 'Omar ne voulut rien entendre et parla même de se suicider si jamais sa mère osait commettre la bassesse d'épouser « un ancien captif de son père » ( sama dyaam-u baay). Fâtimata Sal, craignant de perdre son fils, n'abandonna pas son projet, mais le remit à plus tard. En elîet, un an après, elle revint à la charge, mais se heurta, de nouveau, au même refus et aux mêmes menaces de suicide. Elle patienta encore un an. Mais, à la troisième année, sans se soucier, cette fois, des menaces de son fils, elle épousa Mbârik. Dès qu'Amadou Boubakar apprit la conclusion de ce mariage, il en fut si indigné qu'il courut se jeter dans le fleuve. Tous ses parents et tous les curieux du village assistèrent, impuissants, à sa noyade. Tout ce monde le vit englouti dans les flots et, ne le voyant plus reparaître, le crut mort, noyé. On lui fit de grandes funérailles. On le pleura longtemps dans le pays. En réalité, le fils du guerrier almoravide et de la femme torôdo n'était pas mort. Voici les faits tels qu'ils se sont passés : Amadou Boubakar, arrivé au fond de l'eau, et sentant les premiers effets de l'asphyxie, s'était empressé en bon nageur qu'il était, de revenir à la surface. Les Ouoloffs disent à ce propos que « jamais bon nageur, dans l' eau, ne se suicide » (ku mon fêêy, du-kha.ru tyi dekh). Amadou Boubakar usa donc de ses connaissances nautiques. Revenu à la surface, il nagea quelque temps en côtoyant la rive gauche. La foule ne pouvait le voir de l'autre rive. Il était caché par les grands arbres touffus, les diverses plantations, nombreux en cet endroit. Dès qu'il se sut complètement échappé à la vue de la foule, il sortit du fleuve, chercha une cachette et y resta jusqu'au soir. La nuit venue, il sortit de sa cachette et marcha jusqu'au matin. Il continua ainsi, pendant trois ans,dit-on, marchant la nuit, se cachant le jour, se nourrissant de tout ce qu'il pouvait manger : herbes, fruits sauvages, poissons séchés au soleil, etc. Bref, après trois ans de cette vie errante, il arriva à proximité d'un petit village appelé Mengeny (Note: Près de Saint-Louis), habité par des gens, Bôôy de sant. Il trouva dans ce lieu une cachette sûre et y élit domicile, à l'insu des gens du village qui était assez éloigné de la berge. Mais un jour que les pécheurs de Mengeny, revenus de la pêche, ne pouvaient s'entendre, comme cela leur arrivait souvent sur le partage du produit de leur pêche, et allaient en venir aux mains. Amadou Boubakar Ibn Omar sortit précipitamment de sa cachette et se dirigea vers eux. Ces derniers, le voyant venir, crurent qu 'il sortait du fleuve. Ils en eurent peur, à cause de sa longue chevelure des poils qu'il avait sur presque tout le corps, lequel était à peine recouvert de quelques feuilles d' arbres enroulées autour des reins. Ils allaient s'enfuir, le prenant pour un dyinne (Djinn). Amadou Boubakar, qui ne pouvait communiquer avec eux par la parole, ne parlant pas le même dialecte, du geste leur demanda de l'attendre Il alla près des poissons où les pécheurs s'étaient rassemblés, et, toujours par geste il demanda à chacun d'eux de lui remettre un menu objet : soit un caillou , un morceau de bois ou de charbon, etc. Quand tous ces objets furent entre

ses mains, il fit des poissons autant de tas qu'il avait d'objets. Il déposa ensuite, sur chaque tas, un de ces objets. Cette opération terminée, les gens de Merigeny prirent chacun, un des tas sur lequel se trouvait l'objet, par lui remis à Amadou Boubakar. Ainsi, le produit de la pèche fut partagé, ce jour-là, sans incident, au grand étormement des pêcheurs. Aussi, quand ils rentrèrent au village, racontèrent-ils leur aventure à tout le monde. Ils parlèrent de la présence d'un Djinn au bord du fleuve, de sa sortie du fond de l'eau et du partage miraculeux qu'il fit des poissons. Les anciens du village, aussi étonnés que charmés de cette merveilleuse histoire prirent la décision de s'emparer, coûte que coûte, de l'ingénieux djinn qui, amené au village, réglerait les questions litigieuses de la communauté. Pour arriver à ce but, les anciens s'entendirent avec les jeunes qui devront, le lendemain, à l'atterrissage de la pirogue de pêche, faire un simulacre de dispute. Dès que le Djinn sortira du fleuve, pour régler les différends les anciens surgiront, et, aidés des jeunes gens, ils s'empareront d'Amadou Boubakar. Le lendemain, les choses se passèrent ainsi, à la satisfaction des gens de Mengeny qui amenèrent Amadou Boubakar ben 'Omar au village. Il y fut mis sous bonne garde, mais resta plusieurs jours sans prononcer un seul mot malgré les nombreuses et vaines tentatives des gens de ce village qui s' employaient, à qui mieux mieux, à le faire parler. Les habitants de Mengeny, ne pouvant éclaircir le mystère de cette affaire, envoyèrent une délégation consultative auprès du Buur-Sin, Masa Wali Dyon, le plus grand chef fétichiste (khêrôm-kat) d'alors. On dit que son oracle consulté par tous les États voisins, était infaillible (gisaanê-m daa-ul-dyuutn). Pendant que les envoyés de Mengeny faisaient route vers le lointain pays des Sérères, un fait important s'était passé au village. Une femme de Mengeny, appelée Bat Bôôy, conçut le plan de faire parler le Dyinnè et, pour arriver à ses fins, elle se déclara amoureuse du mystérieux personnage. Elle demanda à l'épouser. Les villageois, quoique surpris de cette décision y consentirent, et le mariage fut conclu. Pendant les premières nuits. Bat Bôôy essaya en vain de décider son mari à entrer en rapport; avec elle. Mais, à la fin, elle joua si bien son rôle d'épouse, que le Dyinnè, n'y tenant plus, finit par jouir de ses faveurs. Mais il ne parla toujours pas. Bat Bôôy, au lieu d'être découragée par ce silence prolongé, sut que la première partie était gagnée et essaya, cette fois, de mettre son mari à l'épreuve de la faim. Elle le priva donc de nourriture pendant plusieurs jours. Quand elle vit qu' Amadou Boubakar, luttant contre la faim, était presque à bout, elle apporta une marmite et des denrées, près de son mari, et se mit à préparer un mets. Elle fit le feu, mais au lieu de trois bas (espèces de cales en pierre pour soutenir la marmite au-dessus du feu), nécessaires pour l'équilibre de la marmite, elle n'en prit que deux. Plusieurs fois, elle posa la marmite qui mal soutenue, tombait toujours. Amadou Boubakar, dont l'estomac tiraillait, regardait faire sa femme qui ne cessait de répéter, inlassablement, l'inutile opération. Enfin, ny tenant plus et après avoir claqué des doigts pour attirer l'attention de Bat Bôôy qui fait la sourde oreille, Boubakar lui crie : Kalandyi tati (cales trois) (Monteil note: En peul, tati signifie «trois».), autrement dit : « Il faut trois cales pour soutenir une marmite.» Bat Bôôy, satisfaite, appela ses parents et tout le village, pour leur apprendre qu'elle avait réussi à faire parler le soi-disant Djinn. Elle se tourna ensuite vers son mari et lui dit : « Tu as connu mes faveurs (kham-nga lu-mu-doon) tu ne peux t'abstenir de nourriture (môn-ul-o muny nyam) : tu es donc un homme comme nous (nit-nga naka nyum). Pourquoi refuser, plus longtemps, de parler? » Amadou Boubakar parla. La joie fut générale, dans le village : le Djinn avait parlé. Laissons les gens de Mengeny à leur joie, pour suivre les délégués dans leur mission auprès du « Voyant » (gissaanê-kal), le Buur-Sin Masa Wali Dyon. A leur arrivée dans le Sin, ils racontèrent à ce dernier les faits tels qu'ils s'étaient passés . Masa Wali Dyon, après les avoir entendus, secoua la tète et, d'un air pensif, dit: lii dey Ndyadyan Ndyay (Monteil note: en peul on dirait lii dey waate-la), ce qui, dans sa langue, voulait dire: « ça, c'est extraordinaire ! » (Ndyadyan est un mot sérère pouvant se traduire par « bizarre, surnaturel, ou extraordinaire » (Monteil note: En serere, Ndyadyan veut dire "malheur"). Les envoyés de Mengeny, entendant le mot de Ndyadyan sortir de la bouche du savant féticheur (khêrôm-kat), crurent que ce mot était le nom du Djinn par eux capturé. Ils s'en servirent, désormais, pour désigner Bubakar Ibn 'Omar. Ce dernier portera ce surnom toute sa vie. Masa Wali Dyon, après avoir consulté ses idoles (seet khêrôm-ôm) , dit aux envoyés de Mengeny : « Celui que vous avez capturé à Mengeny n'est point sorti des eaux comme vous le croyez. Il n'est point un Djinn, mais un simple homme. Cependant, il est d'une descendance illustre et il sera le grand roi d'un immense empire. Quand vous serez de retour chez vous, dites aux gens de Mengeny et des pays environnants de se grouper tous sous son autorité. ''' En ce qui me concerne, et pour vous donner une preuve de sa haute naissance, je mets ma couronne à ses pieds. Tout mon état, le Sin, tous mes sujets, les Sérères, sont à lui.''' Dites-le lui.» La délégation prit aussitôt congé du Buur-Sin Masa Wali Dyon, et rentra à Mengeny où elle rendit fidèlement compte de sa mission.

Hello, Tamsier. In 2018 your indefinite block was commuted to a topic ban from all edits related to the Serer people plus a sitewide ] restriction. Please see and . Did you forget about it during your long absence (nearly five years)? You have never appealed those restrictions and they have never been lifted. Nevertheless, when you returned in March of this year, you returned to editing about the Serer people, thereby violating your topic ban. (I don't know whether there have been any 1RR problems.) Theoretically, I'm supposed to block you for those violations, which are big and bad — look at , for example. However, after your long absence, I don't have any taste for throwing the book at you; I'd rather believe that you had forgotten, or had somehow assumed the restrictions were no longer live. They are, though. Please immediately cease all editing related to the Serer people, and also please make sure to keep the 1RR restriction in mind from now on. This is a serious warning; there won't be another. As I said in 2018, the restrictions can be appealed at ]. ] &#124; ] 14:17, 19 April 2024 (UTC).

The AfroCine Project invites you to join us again this October and November, the two months which are dedicated to improving content about the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora.

You seem to have forgotten your topic ban

Hello, Tamsier. In 2018 your indefinite block was commuted to a topic ban from all edits related to the Serer people plus a sitewide 1RR restriction. Please see this discussion and this formal notification. Did you forget about it during your long absence (nearly five years)? You have never appealed those restrictions and they have never been lifted. Nevertheless, when you returned in March of this year, you returned to editing about the Serer people, thereby violating your topic ban. (I don't know whether there have been any 1RR problems.) Theoretically, I'm supposed to block you for those violations, which are big and bad — look at this, for example. However, after your long absence, I don't have any taste for throwing the book at you; I'd rather believe that you had forgotten, or had somehow assumed the restrictions were no longer live. They are, though. Please immediately cease all editing related to the Serer people, and also please make sure to keep the 1RR restriction in mind from now on. This is a serious warning; there won't be another. As I said in 2018, the restrictions can be appealed at WP:AN. Bishonen | tålk 14:17, 19 April 2024 (UTC).

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
