| Blocks work off of two things: the username, and the user's IP address. When a user's username is blocked, if they try to sign out and edit from their IP address, that address is automatically blocked by the site software in order to prevent them from evading the block. It wasn't due to a content dispute, a pre-emptive strike, or to prevent anon editing in general; it was because the reverts were coming from a variety of ips almost certainly being used by one user. I notice you have this image on your user sub-page User:Primate/Templates/4/9. Unfortunately, due to a licensing issue it must be deleted from Misplaced Pages, so I've had to remove it.
