Janet Clarke, of ''School Librarian'' magazine, called the novel an "action packed thriller", stating "once you enter into the spirit of the book it is fast paced and entertaining". Of the characters, Clarke found them to be, on the whole, plausible and stated that "Michael and Katya have a relaxed friendly relationship". She concludes by stating that, of the novel as a whole; "you certainly want to know how it's all going to end".<ref>{{cite magazine |magazine=() School Librarian |first=Janet |last=Clarke |url=http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-268222603.html |publisher=] |date=22 September 2011 |accessdate=30 May 2012 |title=Bateman, Colin: Fire Storm.
