==Romanization for words of English origin==
On the ], a discussion has been started about '''including or not including romanizations for words of English origin''', such as Fainaru Fantajī in {{nihongo|''Final Fantasy''|ファイナルファンタジー|Fainaru Fantajī}} (for the sake of simplicity, I called this case "words of English origin", more information on semantics ]).

Over the course of a month, it has become apparent that both the parties proposing to include or not include those romanizations cannot be convinced by the arguments or guidelines brought up by the other side. Therefore, a compromise is trying to be found that will satisfy both parties. ] on a compromise has been given already, but it has not found unanimous agreement, so additional compromises are encouraged to be suggested.

One universally accepted point was to bring more users from the affected projects in to help achieve consensus, and you were one of those ] in the process.

==move==
Hi I'm proposing a move to a contentious title of diaoyu/senkaku islands. Please come to take a look:
''(])'' — '''] → {{noredirect|1=Pinnacle Islands}}''' — A recent discussion about the controversial use of Japanese name over a controversial land seems to suggest that neither ''Senkaku'' and ''Diaoyu'' is predominate common name. The title was hence moved to ] following the example of ] and ], which neglects who administrate and controls the place, but pick up a neutral generally known name. Referring to this change:
2010-10-09T03:12:31 Xqbot (talk | contribs) m (37 bytes) (Robot: Fixing double redirect to ]) (rollback | undo)
2010-10-09T00:54:08 Andycjp (talk | contribs) (37 bytes) (moved ] to Intellectual Disability: Rosa`s law)
The only discussion I can find about this is '']'' and shows a lack of consensus for this change. The article is currently a mess, with the introduction inconsistent with the new title (which had to be corrected by a bot), no references supporting the title, and the title itself being referred to as a euphemism and superset of what the introduction refers to. These are all issues you should have dealt with, or sought help for, as preparation for the move or immediate tidying up afterwards.

With the help of a search engine I was able to deduce why you did this, and I might even have agreed if given the chance to, but it will probably be necessary to get the article moved back until someone can do it tidily, unless you are able to finish the job "fairly soon". ==Linking of common English words==

:An article is said to be ''overlinked'' if it links to words that can be understood by most readers of the English Misplaced Pages. Overlinking should be avoided, because it makes it difficult for the reader to identify and follow links that are likely to be of value.
You have also taken specific links and replaced them with less-specific links: ] -->programmable ] ; ] --> Ladies' Aid ]. In the latter case, this is perhaps because there is not yet a ] article; but ], because it makes sense as a potential article.

As many of you may know, our unofficial mascot, dear Wikipe-tan, hasn't yet indicated any particular beliefs. People do talk, you know. ;) If anyone might be able to develop an image of the dear lady in a image more, well, "Christian," I would like to see perhaps a vote for next month as to which, if any, image of the dear girl we might make our own unofficial mascot. ''Ichthus'' will spotlight a different subproject or workgroup of WikiProject Christianity. This edition will spotlight on our vital ]. This comparatively small, but vital, project unit is dedicated to welcoming new editors to Misplaced Pages and the Christianity related content, and to providing information to the various project members, in forms like this newsletter.

{{large|'''Help wanted'''}}<br>
The scope of articles with which this group deals is truly enormous, and, given the wide variety of material with which we deal, we would very much welcome the input of more individuals, particularly individuals who are particularly knowledgeable of the less well-known and less frequently monitored articles related to Christianity.

We're looking for writers to contribute to ''Ichthus''. Do you have a project that you'd like to highlight? An issue that you'd like to bring to light? Post your inquiries or submission ]. And if the publication of this issue is any indication, you're in for the ride of a lifetime!
Speaking personally, I would be very, very gratified if we were to have this become a very, very large and active unit, with members from the broad spectrum of Christian beliefs, practices, and groups. The broader the spectrum and areas of expertise of members we have, the better we will be able to help manage the content. Please consider whether you believe you might be able to contribute in this vital area.

*I'm going to repeat my explanation here of the problems with your editing, to make it clear that you have been properly warned here on your talk page. Firstly, you must not censor scientific articles to remove reference to evolution - amongst biologists, it simply is not controversial. And you cannot use religious texts as reliable sources for scientific/factual issues - they can be used as sources for what the texts themselves say or as references for what their followers believe, but not as reliable sources for factual claims. Now, the scientific consensus might indeed be wrong about evolution and the age of the Earth (though it is pretty overwhelming), but even if it is wrong it is still the job of Misplaced Pages to echo it - that's what encyclopedias do; they don't try to correct or argue against consensus. Anyway, if you agree to stop trying to promote your religious views or change scientific articles away from the scientific consensus, I see no reason for any sanction other than a warning/notification on your talk page (though others, of course, might disagree with me and the consensus might be a block now - as with Misplaced Pages articles, I can't go against consensus). But if you continue, then it's pretty certain that you will be blocked from editing, probably indefinitely. -- ] (]) 08:55, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

:This sort of behaviour is exactly why there is an issue at hand. Bible quotes are irrelevant and will not alter the decisions currently being made at AN/I. In case you haven't seen the discussion, it's apparent that you are likely to be topic-banned because of trying to promote your god, your religion, your religious text, and your interpretation of said religious text on articles, while censoring scientific evidence and fact. :Comparing your self-earned situation to the early Christians is an insult to those persecuted for the Church. This had nothing to do with religion and was totally about you censoring what is accepted as a scientific fact by mainstream academia. If you want to make this about religion: Christians were involved in your topic ban, supporting it. Young earth creationism is not Christ, nor the only way to Him. ''Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?'' 1 Corinthians 1:13. ::What Ian said. Your comments are an insult to Christianity and poisonous to the religion. Start thinking for yourself and stop quoting bits of text you don't appear to fully understand. As I mentioned on ], I could point to your edits over the weekend, and claim you should be sentenced to death per Exodus 35:2, but that would be equally silly. You're now under a topic ban, which everyone who expressed preference said was deserved. Is that what you really wanted? If you respond with a Bible quote, I will assume you are incapable of forming your own thoughts and opinions. However, I'll leave you with this quote which I think ''does'' apply in your situation from Romans 12:21 : "If your enemy is hungry, give him something to eat; if thirsty, something to drink. ::Well, for starters, the first thing that we should do is talk to each other first before making '''word changes''' to articles. I noticed you made some minor edits, and that's cool. I can appreciate the link fixes and small adjustments. I must agree with the others, though, that you should avoid making any edits/updates/changes to any science related articles. It is best to just leave those alone for now. Many editors are watching your progress so let's just stick to simple stuff. If you are wanting to make any '''title changes''' or '''word changes''', I strongly encourage that we talk about it first before doing anything. One thing about editing on wikipedia is learning: patience. '''Patience''' is the key. The best way to edit on wiki is to ask everyone if its okay to make '''word changes'''. We can do this by posting on the article's talk page. Its not necessary to ask about small changes like fixing wikilinks, spelling, or minor grammar, so you are doing really good there. :) &nbsp; &mdash; ] 09:05, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

::::Apologies for eaves-dropping, but I feel that I can answer this question. The ban in question was for "any edit concerning evolution (in word or concept), creation (of the universe, the earth, or its creatures), or the origin of species (broadly construed), in article or article talk namespace indefinitely"; So "science" in general is perhaps incorrect. I expect if you wanted to edit the article on ]s or ], for example, that'd be fine. They're science related, but they do not come under the scope of this ban. I realise the "broadly construed" part makes this very subjective, but, from what I can tell, science edits that do not relate to evolution, creation, or origins seem to be safe. – '''''] ]''''' 10:22, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Jesus of Nazareth

Jesus (7–2 BC to 30–33 AD) is the central figure of Christianity, whom the teachings of most Christian denominations hold to be the Son of God and the awaited Messiah of the Old Testament. Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that a historical Jesus existed, although there is little agreement on the reliability of the gospel narratives and how closely the biblical Jesus reflects the historical Jesus. Most scholars agree that Jesus was a Jewish preacher from Galilee, was baptized by John the Baptist, and was crucified in Jerusalem on the orders of the Roman prefect, Pontius Pilate. Christians generally believe that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, performed miracles, founded the Church, died by crucifixion as a sacrifice to achieve atonement, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven, from which he will return. The great majority of Christians worship Jesus as the incarnation of God the Son, the second of three Persons of a Divine Trinity. A few Christian groups reject Trinitarianism, wholly or partly, as non-scriptural. In Islam, Jesus is considered one of God's important prophets and the Messiah. (Full article...)

Project News
By Lionelt

Last month's auspicious relaunch of our newsletter precipitated something of an uproar in the Misplaced Pages community. What started as a localized edit war over censorship spilled over onto the Administrator's Noticeboard finally ending up at Misplaced Pages's supreme judicial body ArbCom. Their ruling resulted in the admonishment of administrator Future Perfect at Sunrise for his involvement in the dispute. The story was reported by Misplaced Pages's venerable flagship newspaper The Signpost.

The question of whether to delete all portals--including the 27 Christianity-related portals--was put to the Misplaced Pages community. Approximately 400 editors have participated in the protracted discussion. Going by !votes, Oppose deletion has a distinct majority. The original Christianity Portal was created on November 5, 2005 by Brisvegas and the following year he successfully nominated the portal for Featured Portal. The Transhumanist has revived WikiProject Portals with hopes of revitalizing Misplaced Pages's system of 1,515 portals.

The reconstructed frame of Nate Saint's plane used in Operation Auca

Operation Auca was an attempt by five Evangelical Christian missionaries from the United States to make contact with the Huaorani people of the rainforest of Ecuador. The Huaorani, also known as the Aucas, were an isolated tribe known for their violence, both against their own people and outsiders who entered their territory. With the intention of being the first Protestants to evangelize the Huaorani, the missionaries began making regular flights over Huaorani settlements in September 1955, dropping gifts. After several months of exchanging gifts, on January 2, 1956, the missionaries established a camp at "Palm Beach", a sandbar along the Curaray River, a few miles from Huaorani settlements. Their efforts culminated on January 8, 1956, when all five—Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Ed McCully, Peter Fleming, and Roger Youderian—were attacked and speared by a group of Huaorani warriors. The news of their deaths was broadcast around the world, and Life magazine covered the event with a photo essay. The deaths of the men galvanized the missionary effort in the United States, sparking an outpouring of funding for evangelization efforts around the world. Their work is still frequently remembered in evangelical publications, and in 2006, was the subject of the film production End of the Spear. (more...)

The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara, painting by Moritz Daniel Oppenheim, 1862. This depiction departs significantly from the historical record of how Mortara was taken—no clergy were present, for example. The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara

The Mortara case was a controversy precipitated by the Papal States' seizure of Edgardo Mortara, a six-year-old Jewish child, from his family in Bologna, Italy, in 1858. The city's inquisitor, Father Pier Feletti, heard from a servant that she had administered emergency baptism to the boy when he fell sick as an infant, and the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Roman and Universal Inquisition held that this made the child irrevocably a Catholic. Because the Papal States had forbidden the raising of Christians by members of other faiths, it was ordered that he be taken from his family and brought up by the Church. After visits from the child's father, international protests mounted, but Pope Pius IX would not be moved. The boy grew up as a Catholic with the Pope as a substitute father, trained for the priesthood in Rome until 1870, and was ordained in France three years later. In 1870 the Kingdom of Italy captured Rome during the unification of Italy, ending the pontifical state; opposition across Italy, Europe and the United States over Mortara's treatment may have contributed to its downfall. The cathedral is located on the south side of the River Lee, on ground that has been a place of worship since the 7th century, and is dedicated to Finbarr of Cork, patron saint of the city. It was once in the Diocese of Cork; it is now one of the three cathedrals in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, in the ecclesiastical province of Dublin. When God Writes Your Love Story: The Ultimate Approach to Guy/Girl Relationships is a 1999 book by Eric and Leslie Ludy, an American married couple. After becoming a bestseller on the Christian book market, the book was republished in 2004 and then revised and expanded in 2009. It tells the story of the authors' first meeting, courtship, and marriage. The authors advise single people not to be physically or emotionally intimate with others, but to wait for the spouse that God has planned for them.

The book is divided into five sections and sixteen chapters. Each chapter is written from the perspective of one of the two authors; nine are by Eric, while Leslie wrote seven, as well as the introduction. The Ludys argue that one's love life should be both guided by and subordinate to one's relationship with God. Leslie writes that God offers new beginnings to formerly unchaste or sexually abused individuals. (more...)

Сретение Господне ("The Meeting of the Lord"), a depiction of Simeon recognising Jesus at the Temple, from a fifteenth-century Novgorodskye School Russian icon.

A Song for Simeon, is a 37-line poem written in 1928 by American-English poet T. S. Eliot (1888–1965). It is one of five poems that Eliot contributed to the Ariel poems series of 38 pamphlets by several authors published by Faber and Gwyer. "A Song for Simeon" was the sixteenth in the series and included an illustration by avant garde artist Edward McKnight Kauffer. The poem's narrative echoes the text of the Nunc dimittis, a liturgical prayer for Compline from the Gospel passage. Eliot introduces literary allusions to earlier writers Lancelot Andrewes, Dante Alighieri and St. John of the Cross. Critics have debated whether Eliot's depiction of Simeon is a negative portrayal of a Jewish figure and evidence of anti-Semitism on Eliot's part. (more...)
