:There's no way that ''all'' hospitals consistently use either John Doe ''or'' John Smith. Quite likely, some use one and others use the other and others use another name altogether. All you have to do is change it to "some hospitals" and the contradiction disappears. That being said, without a citation it's all just guesswork or anecdotal. ] ] 10:06, 9 March 2008 (UTC) | :There's no way that ''all'' hospitals consistently use either John Doe ''or'' John Smith. Zombie Disambiguation
Heh, remember that Simpsons episode where the zombies are going back into their graves, and one zombie interrupts another burying himself: "wait a minute, I'm John Smith!" "John Smith 1882?" "My mistake." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.122.208.51 (talk) 15:14, 5 June 2006

- Wait a minit, maybe i was wrong to leave this here rather than move it to the new talk:John Smith page: Was that zombie thing another variation on your basic Disambiguation joke???

Moved sections
The following sections formerly on this talk page are now part of talk:John Smith, since they seemed to be about abt the name itself -- i.e., the name as distinct from the real people and typical fictional characters who have borne it -- rather than about the task of Dab'g the name with respect to articles that could have been titled "John Smith" if there were only one of them:
- talk:John Smith#John Not-A-Vampire-At-All Smith
- talk:John Smith#Most famous John Smith needs to go up top

Contradiction
This page says that John Smith is the name used by hospitals for unnamed male patients. The other page says they use the name John Doe. Neither has a citation. --Thinboy00 @759, i.e. 17:13, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- There's no way that all hospitals consistently use either John Doe or John Smith. Quite likely, some use one and others use the other and others use another name altogether. All you have to do is change it to "some hospitals" and the contradiction disappears. That being said, without a citation it's all just guesswork or anecdotal. Dab or article
This old contrib is placed in a box to encourage attention to the fact that another copy of it exists at Talk:John Smith#Dab or article
--Jerzy•t 06:53, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
This page seems to be both an article about the name "John Smith" and a disambiguation page for various people named "John Smith". The two concepts should be split, since dabs aren't articles and have their own guidelines (like no categories or references needed). Which should go at the base name? Base name dab and John Smith (name), or base name article and John Smith (disambiguation)? -- JHunterJ (talk) 03:15, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with the above, the narrative about the name at the top of the page should be floated off to form it's own article. I think the DAB page should keep the base name and the article be titled 'John Smith (name)'. Alchemagenta (talk) 11:41, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- I have performed more or less such a division, a bit more detail follows the other copy of the preceding contribs.

Haruhi
In the newest episode of the Haruhi Suzumiya animé (chronologically episode 8, but also known as the first episode of season 2) Kyon tells Haruhi his name is John Smith. This might be a Doctor Who reference (not impossible since he makes a Back to the Future reference earlier the very same episode), but may also be a refernce as a common english name. Either way I think it deserves a mention in this page, since it lacks content. (BlankTH (talk) 02:22, 24 May 2009 (UTC))
