==London Wikimedia Fundraiser==
===Blnguyen's RfA=== | |||
Good evening! This is a friendly message from ], inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Misplaced Pages, and is subsidising a charity event for us. We're keen to get as many Wikimedians coming as possible, and we already have approximately 200 guests, including members of the press, and some mystery guests! More details can be found at http://ten.wikipedia.org/London - expect an ], a ] hot tub, a free ], a ] ] and more. If you're interested in coming - and we'd love to have you - please go to the ten.wikipedia page and follow the link to the Facebook event. Signing up on Facebook will add you to the party guestlist. Entry fee is a heavily subsidised £5 and entry is restricted to over 18s. It promises to be a 10th birthday party to remember! If you have any questions, please email me at chasemewiki at gmail.com.

If you know a page where I can find some pictures of him '''from his movies''' like promotional material or screen shots, we could take a picture from there and I'll look after copyright information so Ajith finally gets his well-deserved picture. Also: the link in his box (ajithfans.com) is not his official homepage, but a fan page. It says there that it is about Ajith but not affiliated with him. If he has an official homepage, built by his agent or his production company, we could link it, but fan pages, because of copyright issues should generally not be linked at Misplaced Pages. ===Subpages===
The same copyright rules apply all over Misplaced Pages, for the simple reason that if WP gets sued, it won't matter which part of the website the copyright breach is on. Subpages. Hmm, surely the same rules apply as for user pages. ] is an unusually good guide to what is and isn't OK. Specifically: "Generally, you should avoid substantial content on your user page that is unrelated to Misplaced Pages." I think you'd be challenged pretty quickly to show how what you're proposing relates to WP (if I've understood).
On the other hand, if you set something like that up at ] or the like, you'd be perfectly entitled to put a quick link to it from your WP user page (but obviously not to turn your user page into a front page for the MySpace jobby).
By the way, v interesting to see the Featured Article kerfuffle re Dorset. I've encountered this before, where the editors of a FA want their baby frozen in time. In the end, of course, it will lead to those articles becoming redundant faster: they'll continue to look and sound terribly pretty – and become museum pieces. Although I guess one should take the trouble of reading through their talk pages, to see if one's edit is something that has been thrashed out previously. *sigh* Anyway, hope that helps, ] | ] 14:38, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
: OK, so no temples in subpages. LOL. Re: Dorset - that's true. A FA parent quickly becomes ''territorial''. The {inuse} tag is clearly a fence that others ought not to jump. ] 15:26, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

I like it, I like it! Have only seen the ] economics table, but I'm guessing you've done a lot more. Nice one: a really valuable addition to Misplaced Pages. ===Dorset===
Dorset is a featured article, it is supposed to represent our best work, so you shouldn't just go dumping stuff in without consideration for how it fits and whether it contributes anything to the article. I appologise for not giving a proper edit summary, but I was intending to make further edits which would have made the explanation redundant. Here is why I reverted:
# Redundant changes to article structure
# Inappropriate presentation for this article
# The data is just some raw numbers:
## Those who will understand the data straight away probably won't be the sort who come to Misplaced Pages to look for it.
## Those reading the article for curiosity/learning probably won't learn much of use from the table.
## Without comparing the GVA to other regions/counties/cities/the UK as a whole, it tells us nothing about the county. I am already working on a comparison with neighbouring counties.
## Raw data comparing years is again meaningless to the vast majority of readers. A sentence telling us whether GVA grew more or less than the national average would tell us more about the state of the economy.
] ] 21:32, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Regarding your second revert. If that's what you believe, do feel free to start a website that lists random unconnected facts. The rest of us are trying to write an '']''. ] ] 21:34, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
: Do you believe narrations are more effective than tables. They aid tables. They can never replace tables. Otherwise, you have to explain the agri-trend, industry trend and services' trend in so many words. Tables are more efficient and aesthetic. Economy sections can never be redundant. I suggest you keep the table ''in addition'' to any narration or inference of your words for inter-county comparisons or relative growth ''vis-a-vis'' nation. Misplaced Pages is an encyclopaedia with multimedia capabilities. It is best to avail all those features for pedagogical purposes. Appreciating your civility. ] 21:41, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
=== Economic stats tables again ===
I suppose it would be shedload of work, but it would be interesting to include GVA per capita. Otherwise it doesn't meaan anything useful to say that ] has a larger GVA than ], but does the average person in Rutland produce more than the average Londoner? Is there a way to modify the template so that it calculates that figure without you having to revisit every page that you've already done? --] 23:29, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
:GVA per capita is a arbitrary figure unlike GVA which is actual. So those variables should probably be used with caution. GVA data is useful in getting a practical idea of trend of industry-wise relative growth and market potential. I believe such aggregate figures are more effective in business planning as well as pedagogy. Bcoz, it hardly matters to a curious businessman if Rutland is poorer or richer than London if all his supplies, products, staff and markets are established in Rutland only. I have no clue about inserting scripts into tables for auto-sum. ] 02:49, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

== Seeking Editor Review Commentary (If You Like) ==
Hi. In conjunction with my ] (that you voted on), I have created ], to give people a chance to comment as to ways in which I can branch out or alter my contributions to Misplaced Pages. An RfA seems to solely focus on how one's temperment and contributions relate to how they might handle administrative powers (and the consensus on that seems to be that I'm not quite ready); the editor review opens things up a little more to a larger focus, and I'd love to hear community feedback in the sense of that larger focus, too. If you feel you've already expressed yourself sufficiently when casting your vote, then by all means don't worry about it, but if any thoughts come to mind or if you'd like to expound upon any suggestions or commentary, it would be appreciated. In any case, I appreciated you taking the time to express your opinion on my RfA, and I thank you for that. — ] (] • ]) 19:54, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

I wanted to drop a brief note on your talk page (one admittedly not written to you only, but nevertheless truly meant) to thank you for your vote in my Request for Adminship, which concluded this evening. Even though it was unsuccessful, it did make clear to me some areas in which I can improve my contributions to Misplaced Pages, both in terms of the areas in which I can participate and the manner in which I can participate. I do plan on, at some point in the future (although, I think, not the near future), attempting the process again, and I hope you will consider participating in that voting process as well. If you wish in the future to offer any constructive criticism to me, or if I may assist you with anything, I hope you will not hesitate to contact me. Date of invention of Boolean algebra
Hi Anwar. You give "late 1830s" as the date for the invention of Boolean algebra. What's your source for that decade? The earliest source I'm aware of for Boolean algebra is Boole's book "Mathematical Analysis of Logic, being an Essay Towards a Calculus of Deductive Reasoning," Macmillan, Barclay and Macmillan, London, 1847. --Vaughan Pratt (talk) 17:49, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

May I ask where did you find the source data for this bubble map? Thanks! Cogiati (talk) 21:45, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
File:2005grape.PNG
Hi there! Are you are the original author of that map? If so, then could you please rearrange the dots in the way that they'd locate in the areas where the grapes really grow. I think it's totally misleading when the dots are located only near the capital. Like grapes are growing in northern Russia and only in the eastern USA and not in California? London Wikimedia Fundraiser
Good evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. More details can be found at http://ten.wikipedia.org/London - expect an Eigenharp, a mulled wine hot tub, a free hog roast, a haybale amphitheatre and more.
Hope we'll see you there, (and apologies for the talk page spam) - Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 18:03, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

File source problem with File:2005Italian exports.PNG
Thank you for uploading File:2005Italian exports.PNG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Misplaced Pages's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:21, 15 March 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Logan Talk 18:21, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Miss Chennai
The article Miss Chennai has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Failed to meet WP:GNG. The article has not received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject.
While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Richie Campbell (talk) 14:03, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
