I just stumbled upon this draft: ] Cool!

It's a good idea, and a good start. It's also a rather ambitious topic, so I won't ask what happened...I'd imagine it might take a few phases to finish up a big story like that! But, would you be interested in picking it up, or perhaps finding somebody to pick up where you left off?
== Merry Xmas == | |||
As the first (and only, I suppose) Public Outreach Officer for WMF, I could probably answer many questions, and I'd be happy to do an interview if you's like. I wrote most of the grant proposal / project plan for the PPI. Also, though you do mention David Ferreio, I think any broad treatment of public outreach would have to consider the GLAM movement more broadly; I'd be happy to talk through that stuff as well. And, for all these reasons, it probably wouldn't make sense for me to serve as the editor for the piece; but I'm sure we could find somebody to read through it and offer feedback who's less closely connected.

:{{pong|Peteforsyth}} Ah, I remember that. At the time I was going through a few different hair-brained takes on in-depth journalism; this was one of them. I didn't get ''too'' far into this one (edit: never mind, I got very far into it...didn't recall writing so much!), as I recall, because I found that I didn't have enough personal experience with the subject matter, and the work I was doing to mine out a proper timeline was too burdensome with respect to the rest of my duties to the paper at the time.
:If I remember, the idea at the time was that I would write a series of three or so of these covering the history of the Edu initiative, copyedit all of them, get feedback, the whole nine yards, and then publish in installments.
:Your support is generous, but I think the time for me to write such long diatribes is now past. :) A lengthy multi-parter such as this one is simply too much for me now; and besides, I think that shorter, more self-contained pieces resonate better with readers anyway. In that spirit, there are some smaller pieces that I can think to contribute to the ''Signpost'' here or there, once I find the time for them. ]] 05:11, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

* creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

Fascinating article. One query: "in neither case are the editors beholden to vetting the sourcing of the article in question (they rarely do; otherwise who would bother?)" :I use beholden in the sense that irregardless of what the GA standards have to say on verifiability, reviewers are not truly obligated (synonymous) to do so. You know, as for checking sources in GA reviews, there is this nugget in the relevant guideline, ]: {{xt|Ideally, a reviewer will have access to all of the source material, and sufficient expertise to verify that the article reflects the content of the sources; '''this ideal is not often attained'''}} (my emphasis).

It then goes on to say, {{xt|At a bare minimum, check that the sources used are reliable (for example, blogs are not usually reliable sources) and that those you can access support the content of the article (for example, inline citations lead to sources which agree with what the article says) and are not plagiarized (for example, close paraphrasing of source material should only be used where appropriate, with in text attribution if necessary).}}

:: Good idea ... so ... are you going to change it? As for bots, no, I'm doing this by hand, because ...
I am a little bit wary that you might get a few complaints from GA reviewers if you imply too strongly that they generally don't bother to read the sources. I think what is definitely the case is that the process is very, very patchy, especially given that anyone can do it, regardless of how competent they are, and that only one editor's word is enough to pass an article. But I also know that there are GA reviewers who are quite meticulous about reading the sources and checking that the article content matches (I certainly did that on the few GAs I have reviewed).

I have a problem with a graph and try to find the right person to ask. Are you the one or can you please tell me who to ask?
Hello there! Thanks for writing an op-ed. I have to admit though, I haven't read it all. I don't exactly think the phrase, "dearth of vandalism lasting more than a few seconds" is accurate. I just happened to go check for vandalism, and I found two examples (, ) that lasted over two hours. Why do you think vandalism is no longer a major problem? I am wondering where those statistics or that idea comes from. As you can see , I've been interested in this idea previously. (I'm not just randomly complaining to you.) =) ] (]) 04:39, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
You created the help page for Graph, therefore I think you are close to the right one :-)
:Well, those two edits are more exceptions than rules, aren't they? As West said, 40% of vandalism is now handled by bots—that's no small number, and the implementation and refinement of manual tools and automatic bots have done a lot. Nonetheless, I don't state that it's ''not'' a major problem, only that it's ''less'' of one. ]] 02:37, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

== ''The Bugle'': Issue LXXXIII, February 2013 ==
The stackedarea graph seems to sort the y-lines by size. In this case this is not good because the bottom area should be the one with "Sonstige" (english "others"). But the graph always shows the one with "Ausländer" (a specifically named area) as the bottom one. How can I change the order of the two bottom areas?

== Good Article Nominations Request For Comment ==
G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the ] is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:
{| {{WP:WikiProject Good articles/Shell|introduction=A ''' ']' '''for Good Article Nominations is currently being held. * tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
At this time, '''Proposal 1, 3, and 5''' have received full (or close to) support.
* adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
* updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
* creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
If you have questions of anything general (not related to one specif proposal), please leave a message under the ''General discussion'' thread.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of ], and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.
Please note that '''Proposal 2''' has been '''withdrawn''' and no further comments are needed. Also, please disregard '''Proposal 9''' as it was never an actual proposal.}}
|} | |||

Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Misplaced Pages, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.
== ''The Bugle'': Issue LXXXV, April 2013 ==
There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with and . Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how {{tl|infobox ship}} is parsed).

{|{{Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Good articles/Recruitment Centre/Shell|introduction=Hello! In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate '''per review'''. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00.
| |||

It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.
Would you be willing to update your signature to the following for an error free equivalent?
| |||
More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the ]. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.

Thank you, | |||
I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!
