Anil Trivedi (born 6 May 1951) is a prominent social activist and Gandhian from Indore, Madhya Pradesh in India; who is best known for his public interest litigations (PIL) challenging Government’s anti-people policies. For last 35 years, he has forced the reversal of anti-people policies of the state administration in numerous cases, through writ petitions and has helped restore the rights of the people: the tribals, farmers and poor villagers; the dignity of the poor and the helpless, and in protecting the environment, and ensuring free open spaces for children and the public.

==Early life==

Anil Trivedi was born in Indore, ], to Kalawati and Kashinath Trivedi on 6 May 1951. His parents took active part in the freedom struggle of India. Anil's family background played a major role in shaping his views and life's work.
===Father: Kashinath Trivedi===
Kashinath Trivedi joined Sabarmati Ashram of Gandhiji in 1927 as editor of Hindi Navjivan, and was reponsible for translating most of Gandhiji’s original Gujarati writings in Hindi, including his autobiography – My Experiments with Truth. Kashinath Trivedi was imprisoned for 25 months in the Nagpur central jail during the Quite India movement.<ref>http://www.jamnalalbajajfoundation.org/awards/archives/1995/constructive-work/kashinath-trivedi</ref> Following India’s independence, he became the first education minister of Madhya Bharat and the president of congress committee of Madhya Bharat. He quit active politics in 1952 to involve himself in the Acharya Vinoba Bhave’s Sarvodaya and Bhoodan movements. He set up Gram Bharati Ashram in Tavlai in 1952 – to work to bring about Gram Swaraj and to run a school for children from tribal areas. Known as the Gandhi of Nimar, he was the first to oppose the Narmada Dam project, which subsequently developed in the Narmada Bachao Andolan. ===Mother: Kalawati Trivedi===
Kalawati Trivedi joined the Sabarmati Ashram with her husband in 1927, and took part in the protest following the Dandi Salt Satyagrha March of 1930. She was beaten by Police in Borsad. Gandhiji appreciated her courage in his letter dated 2 Feb 1931.<ref>http://www.gandhiserve.org/cwmg/VOL051.PDF</ref> She was arrested in 1933 while protesting in Ajmer and was sent to jail for three months.

==Activism and Education==
In 1969, Anil Trivedi became a part of Tarun Shanti Sena.<ref>http://nvdatabase.swarthmore.edu/content/shanti-sena-indian-peace-brigade-intervenes-deadly-hindumuslim-riots-ahmedabad-1969</ref>. He earned his M.A. in ] with gold medal from Government Arts and Commerce College, Indore in 1974.
===Total Revolution===
In 1974, Anil became actively involved in the total revolution movement launched by ]. Anil was appointed coordinator of the local body of the movement in 1974 and co-coordinator in 1975. Anil wrote many articles against the ] imposed on 26 June 1975. As a result, he was detained under MISA (]) and sent to Indore Jail. Anil utilized this time to earn his LLB Honors by securing first place in the University. He was released on 22 January 1977 after spending 19 months in Jail.
===Narmada Bachao Andolan===
Anil Trivedi actively participated in ] right from the beginning. He led a rally of 10000 displaced villagers on 22 February 1989. He was arrested at the same time. He led another rally in September 1989.
===People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL)===
PUCL works for the protection of human rights. Anil is associated with PUCL since early 1980s. He was also a member of the ] of PUCL.
===India Against Corruption (IAC)===
He was active in the ] right from the beginning. ==Politics==
Anil Trivedi fought ] elections from Indore-5 ] in the year 1977 as the youngest candidate of Janta Party. He was defeated by merely 1000 votes. Since then, he has been fighting for the poor and the downtrodden as an ] and an ].
In August 1989, he became the President of Janta Dal in district Indore. In 1997, he became a member of the ].
] has announced his candidature from ] constituency for the upcoming ] in April-May 2014.

==Social Service as a High Court Advocate==
Anil Trivedi has been practicing in Indore ] for last 35 years. He has filed several PIL (]) and won cases in favor of common man. Some significant achievements are:

- Reservation for deaf, dumb and blind people in jobs

- Juvenile criminals were exempted from hand-cuffing
- Stopped illegal encroachment of land by Indore Development Association (IDA)
- Rectified the process of illegal appointment of political people in twenty point program committees etc.
