== WikiCup 2024 May newsletter ==

The second round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 28 April. This round was particularly competitive: each of the 32 contestants who advanced to Round 3 scored at least 141 points. This is the highest number of points required to advance to Round 3 since 2014.

The following scorers in Round 2 all scored more than 500 points:
* {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Sammi Brie}} with 707 points, mostly from 45 ] reviews and 12 ]s about radio and television;
* {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Generalissima}} with 600 points, mostly from 12 good articles and 12 ] nominations about coinage and history;
* {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|SounderBruce}} with 552 points, mostly from a ] about the ], three ], and two good articles;
* {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|BennyOnTheLoose}} with 548 points, mostly from a featured article about the snooker player ], two featured lists, and one good article;
* {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|voorts}} with 530 points, mostly from two featured articles (] and ]) and three good articles.

The full scores for Round 2 can be seen ]. So far this year, competitors have gotten 18 featured articles, 22 featured lists, and 186 good articles, 76 ] credits and at least 200 ] credits. They have conducted 165 featured article reviews, as well as 399 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 21 articles to ] and ].

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed during Round 3, which starts on 1 May at 00:00 (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on ].

Hello @], thank you for leaving a comment on ] for ]. I was wondering if you would be interested in supporting the nomination? ] (]) 13:21, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
I surely would like to discuss changes on the article. But the continuing activity and incivility of Matthead, Jadger,Scinurea are to me a larger problem and consitute the priority. I see no reason in engaging in writing information that will be deleted out of hand by user who writes "no MoloPOV", refuses to engage in factual discussion or at best resorts to personal attacks. This situation is no longer acceptable. If you are not concerned, I don't find you guilty at all, I will search for other means of solving this. But as I said the siutation has gone far enough. True I can be a bit emotional sometimes, but I obey civility on wiki as best as I can, while those users find nothing wrong with repeated incivility violations with no fear of punishment or warning even. I am quite willing to engage in fruitfull disccusions with civil editors such as ] for example,with whom a good resoultion was found in Expulsions article. These users however represent incivility and nationalist POV, I tried to not use this term, but frankly the situation has gone so far that I can no longer refuse to use this word.
--] 00:53, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

== Test pages ==
Seeing your answer on Polish noticeboards I may reckon you do not want to adress Matthead, Jadger and Scinurea about their incivility and behaviour ? If so, I understand. This is not your main job here, and there is no duty for you to engage in this. However I think that before defending them in the future you should try correcting them first.

Hi, seeing that the discussion heated up, I suggest a pause for calming down. However as it seems you are unwilling to adress problems I pointed out, I don't think our debate will solve them. I shall try to find somebody who will be willing to try to solve the problem of incivility and refusal to use scholary resources instead of private opinions by users Matthead,Jadger, Scinurae. I see that you object to the nomination because of the size of the article, which I think such a reason is very unfair. If you look at the article on ], it's over 50k as well, same with many other featured articles. The article will not be improved by removing information, because others will accuse it of not being comprehensive. ] '''Guideline and policy news'''
::I have deleted the two other cross-space redirects for consistency. (Cross-space redirects are not in fashion these days). All of these lists are potentially useful to the reader, so shouldn't be hidden away in Misplaced Pages namespace. However, they are not really articles and their mains advantages over categories are that they contain red links (I like red links) and better adapted formatting. The ] and some other lists is also not really encyclopedic content, but rather appendix material. I wonder whether we should create a ] or ] or a subpage ] where all this stuff could go without asking the devs to create a new namespace for us. (Actually Appendix: is not a namespace in Wiktionary, just a name in namespace format).
* ] of the ] has commenced to improve and refine the proposals passed in ].
::You asked about the Portal criteria. I am too lazy to look up the official criteria (and I think the case at hand is one where we should ignore the rules anyway), but my view is that Portals are there to organize content in a web-oriented and reader-oriented way that both shows what Misplaced Pages already has to offer and encourages contribution. ::Summing up, ''something'' should be done about these lists (and perhaps ] etc. should be treated similarly), I don't know what exactly, but I think strict application of existing policies and regulations will not help us. ] ] 22:23, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

::If you are asking my advice, then I advise against it. There's the risk that someone might decide that this one example wasn't ''that'' big of a mess, so they can probably get away with not notifying people/groups expected to object (this is exactly when it will blow up in their faces), or that they'll find counterexamples, in which things were done poorly and didn't become a big mess after all (probably because the proposal was so sensible or so unimportant that nobody would have objected even if they had been notified. What ultimately matters is that the proposal works for people, not that you squeaked it through an official process), and so talk themselves into making the wrong choice for a less obviously acceptable proposal. == WikiCup 2024 August newsletter ==

The fourth round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 29 August. Each of the 8 contestants who advanced to Round 4 scored at least 472 points, and the following contestants scored more than 700 points:

* {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Generalissima}} with 1,150 points, mostly from 3 ]s, 2 ], 7 ], and 13 ] nominations;
* {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Arconning}} with 791 points, mostly from 2 featured lists, 8 good articles, 4 did you know nominations, and plenty of reviews;
* {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|AirshipJungleman29}} with 718 points, mostly from a high-multiplier featured article on ] and 2 good articles; and
* {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|BennyOnTheLoose}} with 714 points, mostly from 1 featured article on ], 2 featured lists, and 3 good articles.

Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated. Contestants put in extraordinary amounts of effort during this round, and their scores can be seen ]. So far this year, competitors have gotten 36 featured articles, 55 featured lists, 15 good articles, 93 ] credits, and at least 333 ] credits. They have conducted 357 featured content reviews, as well as 553 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 30 articles to ] and ].

Any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed during Round 5, which starts on 1 September at 00:00 (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. If two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. Remember to claim your points within 14 days of earning them, and importantly, before the deadline on 31 October.

== Kahler not a topologist? ==
== ] ==

Hello. A few months ago you recently removed my entry to put Erich Kahler as a topologist in a teaching position when Hitler came to power. I concede it was not in the source given, and as such did not belong there. However, Kahler invented his namesake manifold, and manifolds are a major topic of topology. In addition, he was involved in differential geometry, which is closely related to topology. I am no longer interested in modifying the article in question but what is your reasoning for declaring him as not a topologist? I am genuinely curious. Thank you. ] (]) 18:46, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
We need a Turkish speaker to help us determine what to do with this mostly untranslated article. Could you please take a look and comment on the notability of this person? Thank you, ] ] 03:21, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
:Hi, I commented on the afd page. --<small>] ]</small> 10:19, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

:@], my main reason for removing Kähler was that he was not mentioned in the source cited. In my view, Kähler is not a topologist, but a mathematical physicist and differential geometer, so does not belong in the list (not every geometer is a topologist even if the subjects are related). At least not without additional reliable sources. —] (]) 19:05, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

Ok, whatever. I still don't like being accused of vandalizing when I was at least attempting to follow Misplaced Pages's guidelines. I've run afoul of Wikisnob-powertripers before and without exception they violate Misplaced Pages's rules by claiming ownership of a certain article or subject and then delete-delete-delete everything I try to do. One of the aforementioned jerks even put a vandal tag on my talk page when the only alteration I've done was to correct the spelling of several words in the article. I'm getting just a bit tired of Wikians who feel they own Misplaced Pages and that I'm an intruder that can be squashed like a bug on a whim. ] 21:02, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

==DYK:]?==
<small>Message delivered by ] 01:32, 13 June 2006 (UTC)</small>
Hello! I wonder if you could help ], ] and me to nominate ] for DYK? This French bishop was a powerful collaborator with the Nazis in France during the ] during WWII, proliferating writings to Catholics encouraging collaboration and the Nazis' actions against Jews, communists, etc.

The article is older than one week, but I hope there is an exception here, because the editor who created the article on 16 September, ], died on 27 September. He had created a ] page for it on 18 September. When ] discovered, a few days ago, that Mémoiredumaquis had died, he did further research to improve the article and asked KJP and me to review and improve it, which we did. The late Mémoiredumaquis hoped that this bishop's deeds would be more widely seen by modern readers, and I agree that this is a very interesting and telling subject, especially to anyone wondering what the Catholic Church was up to during this period in France.
== Barnstar ==
]''']]

None of us is familiar with the DYK nomination process, and we wonder if you could nominate the item for us? Any help would be much appreciated. Perhaps the hook could be:
== Stalking ==
*"...that the French Catholic bishop and anti-semite ] welcomed Nazi Germany's 1940 invasion of France?"
What is the proper way to deal with Wiki stalker. I am asking you since you seem to be interested in enforcing wiki rules.
*"...that the French Catholic bishop and anti-semite ] collaborated enthusiastically with the ] by Nazi Germany?"

Thanks for any help or advice! -- ] (]) 22:06, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
:File an RfC or an RfAr. As stalking is often nonobvious, I am not sure there is a quick way to deal with stalkers that are not otherwise disruptive. Are you being stalked as per ]? ] ] 13:56, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
==Deleted part==
The paragraph I deleted is connected to unsourced statement that despite several attempts remains unsourced, mainly the statemnent that Soviets used antipolish propaganda to incite anti-Polish feelings. The rest of the paragraph is used as extrapolation of that unsourced thesis.
I however recall you weren't so disturbed by deletion of well sourced information in Prussia and Georg Forster. My I know what changed your mind ? Thank you in advance.
--] 13:56, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

:Hi @]/@]/@], that's a noble cause and a very interesting article, I had no idea that French collaboration with my deplorable countrymen of 80 years ago extended to senior clergy. From a DYK process point of view: while I can try to ask for an exemption from the newness rule (which could be successful, or not), I would need to be absolutely certain of the sourcing for the hook facts (and sourcing for these facts needs to be provided at nomination time; either with links to an online source or with quotes from an offline source). Generally in the article there are various primary sources and some offline sources that are identical to those of the French version; I would like at least some assurance that these have been checked and ideally that someone can provide additional context if necessary. The Legeard source that is widely used is a ] that needs additional consideration and is probably not going to fly as sourcing for a Main Page hook.
:I have not changed my mind. So you admit that your edit summary was intentionally hiding the main point of your edit? ] ] 14:01, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
:An alternative to nominating now and asking for an exemption to the rules would be to first polish the article up to ] status and then to nominate within a week of promotion to GA. I am happy to help with nominating once I am convinced with the sourcing. —] (]) 09:50, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
''I have not changed my mind''
::Kusma, thank you so much for looking into this. Auvity certainly published his hateful writings to influence his French faithful and other French, but those are primary sources. If Legeard will not fly at DYK, then it seems like your Plan B is probably the best option. I don't know if you have any interest in this, but you may want to put up stubs for Auvity and the similarly odious ] on German Misplaced Pages. My own French and German are next to nil, though I like to sing German and French Lieder. -- ] (]) 18:17, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
Please explain. You believed sourced information in Georg Forster and Prussia can be deleted ?
''So you admit that your edit summary was intentionally hiding the main point of your edit?''
Please talk in civilised way, such question is very unfair, in line with "So you admit you lied about not murdering somebody", you already determined me guilty. I find that very disturbing. I hope this was simply a mispelling.
I presented the main point of the edit. The deletion of unsourced OR wasn't important it was adressed several times before, and nobody presented any source for it. No serious reasons or source were provided for it. Because of that I didn't believe it to be important part of the edit, as I don't consider private views or OR research important unless they are supported by scholary research. I hope I cleared that up.
--] 15:40, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
:I believe sourced information that is not sufficiently relevant should be deleted. The edit summary of such a deletion should not be "added information" to make sure it is not confused with sneaky vandalism. ] ] 15:43, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Btw, how is the work going on restoring neutrality about Prussia and its aparthaid like system of repression of national minorities? Or are you disinterested in that article now ?
--] 14:02, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
:I have never been particularly interested in that article, my recent posts on that talk page were an attempt to find middle ground in a 3RR dispute, and then an attempt to tell you that long uncommented quotes make a talk page hard to use. ] ] 15:30, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Do you have any problems with them ?
--] 15:44, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
:There's a slight incivility problem with them. What's good about them is that they clearly label the edit as a revert and not as something it wasn't. Unlike your summaries, they tell me what happened to the article. ] ] 15:48, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|AirshipJungleman29}}, who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|BeanieFan11}}, who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, {{Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Participant15|Generalissima}} scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. In my work in Wiki I never experienced hostility towards Poland, Poles or Polish issues from other contributors. Seriously. I am particulary impressed by neutral attitude of German and Russian contributors who never are influenced by nationalist sentiments, in comparision with the now infamous "Polish cabal".

<!-- Message sent by User:JPxG@enwiki using the list at https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Misplaced Pages:Wikipedia_Signpost/Subscribe&oldid=1263792399 -->
Comparing editors is always tricky. There are ceretain similarities and certain differences between Ghirla and Molobo. As I have said several times, there is no doubt that Ghirla is a great content creator and the amount of texts he writes vastly exceeed the contributions of Molobo. Also unlike Molobo he has never broken 3RR - however that does not mean that he has not engaged in many revert wars. And being a good content creator does not give one immunity from following ]: throughout my 2 years of Wiki carrer I have not known any other (not yet permblocked) editor who has been so incivil: as for evidence, would you prefer: set A (his ] and ]), set B (how he ignores and deletes warnings he receives from other people (, , - those are just three examples from the last few days, and they by no means represent any irregularity in his behaviour)), set C (his comments 1 and 3 at ]) or Set D - . And this is a selection of just his transgressions against civility, the disruption of Misplaced Pages through engaging in revert wars is another matter; and it is here that I believe is his greatest similarity to Molobo: although Ghirla has never crossed the 3RR treshold, he reverts frequently, and personally I think he is even more disruptive in this reverts then Molobo (I have never, ever, seen Ghirla provide references, and he very rarely engages in talk dispute; Molobo at least gave *some* references and tried to talk to people). For evidence of Ghirla disruptive reverts, you can just go check his latest contribs (linked above), or some examples of my recent encounters of him (] (edits marked as minor and 'false rollback', failure to use talk), ] (as above) or ] (as above, plus a personal attack in edit summary against me 'rv tireless revert warrior'). And I am just stopping at three examples because I have better things to do, but the RfC linked above should be enough to show you that there is a clear pattern in his behaviour, not stemmed to any extent by RfC, ArbCom warning or myriads of warnings on his user page (which he almost always removes). Now hopefully you will see where the problem is.--] <font color="green">]</font> 19:51, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Specifically, this is the mansion of Felix M. Warburg, a Jewish financier who ignored fears of anti-Semitic reprisal to his decided to build himself a big Gothic manor in the middle of New York City. Although the Warburgs no longer remain, their legacy does: the museum is now the home of the Jewish Museum (Manhattan) and the building largely survives as they left it. Intervention request by an Administrator, please

Hi, @Kusma . I'm contacting you after visiting and . I'm having a problem with users @TylerBurden (abusing his Misplaced Pages rights) and @Borgenland, who are deleting my editions in the conflictive page Timeline of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (1 December 2023 – present). Specifically, they're deleting a properly sourced edition by me, with a highly relevant deposition by NATO's supreme commander on April 10, here and here. Then, @Tylerburden also came to my talk page to try and intimidate me, and has also erased the content in the main page about the war Russian invasion of Ukraine, here. Sorry for bothering you, but I'd need help to learn how to proceed. Best regards, MaeseLeon (talk) 18:37, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

I had explained to them in my edit summary as to why and have made a more detailed explanation in their talk page, but instead complainant above has made wild accusations and bad faith assumptions. Borgenland (talk) 18:57, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

WikiCup 2024 May newsletter

The second round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 28 April. This round was particularly competitive: each of the 32 contestants who advanced to Round 3 scored at least 141 points. This is the highest number of points required to advance to Round 3 since 2014.

The following scorers in Round 2 all scored more than 500 points:

The full scores for Round 2 can be seen here. So far this year, competitors have gotten 18 featured articles, 22 featured lists, and 186 good articles, 76 in the news credits and at least 200 did you know credits. They have conducted 165 featured article reviews, as well as 399 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 21 articles to featured topics and good topics.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

I use this as a guide. You are correct that our instructions are contradictory and unclear. Nikki said to discuss it on the page but my experience is policy discussions rarely go anywhere on WP. Hope all is well with you and that this helps. SusunW (talk) 17:48, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Thank you, this looks much better than our guide. I guess what we need is someone who rewrites our guide, not a long discussion on what colour the bikeshed should be. —Kusma (talk) 18:57, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
My thoughts exactly. If someone starts a discussion over there, I'll put in an appearance, but not likely to stick around if it is beating a dead horse. We really should fix the guide, but my experiences tell me it isn't likely. SusunW (talk) 22:44, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
I have added a link to your guide and started a discussion section at that page, but as I am not volunteering to do the rewrite (having no real clue about accessibility, I can offer only goodwill, not expertise) this may lead to nothing. —Kusma (talk) 09:07, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

By the way, could you please let me know how can I revise the page to be passed the review before I submitted again. Saranonk (talk) 10:08, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

@Saranonk, please do not write about your own company. If you do, you need to follow everything said at Misplaced Pages:Conflict of interest; Misplaced Pages is not a platform for advertising or promotion. —Kusma (talk) 10:51, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
@Kusma I understand your point, however let me clarify my intention a bit. My intention is not to advertise the company(I already advertise it in other platforms) but to give the information like who are we and what do we do, to people who is interested in the company, it's the same case as Traveloka or Agoda do. I'm very new for the Misplaced Pages so I would very appreciate if you suggest me how to revise content to be acceptable as the policy. Saranonk (talk) 04:47, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
Statements like "The heart of Gother's branding is encapsulated in the concept Open-Ended Destination with Gother, the platform where travel means more than just destinations" are clearly advertising (and empty phrases). As at Agoda, a Misplaced Pages article is written using reliable, independent secondary sources (which must include any important negative content as per WP:NPOV). To qualify for an article, the sourcing must be good enough to pass the notability guidelines. —Kusma (talk) 10:37, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

Congratulations! - Nice to see Ulf Merbold on the Main page, next to a centenarian (documentation about it by Percy Adlon); Gerhard Klingenberg had two sentences yesterday and was up for deletion, and needs a few more citations. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:38, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, I had not noticed that Merbold was on OTD. Good to see the Klingenberg AFD was closed quickly. —Kusma (talk) 22:21, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
What do you think about Klingenberg's DYK nom? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:10, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
Not sure what is best to do. I don't think the story about his stage name is too bad. Another angle to use is perhaps leaving the Berliner Ensemble after the wall was built? —Kusma (talk) 16:14, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

Danke Kusma

—Kusma (talk) 21:24, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for another good one! - Libuše Domanínská would have turned 100 today, but I missed that ;) - Overnight, Tamara Milashkina became GA. --

Congrats! Carroux was actually my first new article this year, but I have a few fun projects coming up, so I hope there will be two or three more this month. —Kusma (talk) 13:08, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! - Pictured on the Main page: Brian's Mozart family grand tour, my story today, and Mozart related to all three items of music on my talk: our 2023 concert, an opera in a theatre where a Mozart premiere took place, and those remembered, Martti Wallén, a bass, and Liana Isakadze, a violinist from Georgia, (whose article would be better with more details about her music-making). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:27, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
I didn't know we had an article on the Grand Tour! I wrote about the Mozarts' visit to the British Museum at Andrew Planta a while ago. —Kusma (talk) 11:22, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
Interesting! - My story today is - because of the anniversary of the premiere OTD in 1782 - about Die Entführung aus dem Serail, opera by Mozart, while yesterday's was - because of the TFA - about Les contes d'Hoffmann, opera by Offenbach, - so 3 times Mozart again if you click on "music" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:04, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is about a photographer who took iconic pictures, especially View from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Manhattan, 9/11, yesterday's was a great mezzo, and on Thursday we watched a sublime ballerina. (DYK nom open for hook suggestion or review.) If that's not enough my talk offers chamber music from two amazing concerts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:38, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Not everyone

For User:Kusma/Beware of the Leopard, I thought you might be interested in knowing that 83% of extended-confirmed editors have never posted anything at any Village pump. WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:29, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

Thank you very much, added. I've been wondering whether to add examples where people violated WP:LEOPARD and it all became a big mess, but I am afraid Vogon-shaming could detract from the message. —Kusma (talk) 06:22, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
If you are asking my advice, then I advise against it. There's the risk that someone might decide that this one example wasn't that big of a mess, so they can probably get away with not notifying people/groups expected to object (this is exactly when it will blow up in their faces), or that they'll find counterexamples, in which things were done poorly and didn't become a big mess after all (probably because the proposal was so sensible or so unimportant that nobody would have objected even if they had been notified. What ultimately matters is that the proposal works for people, not that you squeaked it through an official process), and so talk themselves into making the wrong choice for a less obviously acceptable proposal. I think it is better to let them see the principle.
Also, shorter messages are more likely to get read, which is another reason not to add a list of examples. WhatamIdoing (talk) 07:34, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice. My original reason for not making a list was laziness. Now I am going to pretend it was wisdom :) —Kusma (talk) 08:16, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I realized on the main page that you are very actively writing high quality articles on German persons of interest. I am not so experienced in the en.wikipedia.org, but edited a lot some time ago on de.wikipedia.org. Can you tell me if there are basic differences in the way people choose or cite sources here? I am somewhat confused as my extension of the article Rimini Protokoll is constantly reverted, even if I gave a host of sources for almost every single sentence. I would be really grateful, if you could have a glance of the article. Kahler not a topologist?

Thank you. MaribelGame (talk) 18:46, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

@MaribelGame, my main reason for removing Kähler was that he was not mentioned in the source cited. In my view, Kähler is not a topologist, but a mathematical physicist and differential geometer, so does not belong in the list (not every geometer is a topologist even if the subjects are related). At least not without additional reliable sources. —Kusma (talk) 19:05, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

With regards to the Adolf Uunona Page

Can I get some kind of understanding on what it takes for a page to be deleted? I’d like to know why a page about a philanthropist (albeit with a historically similar name) was deleted multiple times. I’m not exactly new to Misplaced Pages, but I’m fairly new to editing so I don’t get things like policies. Cornishrom20 (talk) 09:55, 29 September 2024 (UTC)

There was no substantial change from the version of the article deleted in 2021, with the reasoning elaborated at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Adolf Uunona. More substantial coverage of the person in reliable sources to prove notability could lead to a different outcome. —Kusma (talk) 10:38, 29 September 2024 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Special Barnstar
Thank you for being on Misplaced Pages. We needed someone like you

(Also, yes I saw the review log for Adolf Uunona and I understand that it was deleted due to lack of information, not due to him having the same first name as the German dictator.) Cornishrom20 (talk) 11:31, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

DYK:François-Louis Auvity?

Hello! I wonder if you could help User:Tim riley, User:KJP1 and me to nominate François-Louis Auvity for DYK? This French bishop was a powerful collaborator with the Nazis in France during the occupation of France during WWII, proliferating writings to Catholics encouraging collaboration and the Nazis' actions against Jews, communists, etc.

The article is older than one week, but I hope there is an exception here, because the editor who created the article on 16 September, User:Mémoiredumaquis, died on 27 September. He had created a Peer Review page for it on 18 September. When User:Tim riley discovered, a few days ago, that Mémoiredumaquis had died, he did further research to improve the article and asked KJP and me to review and improve it, which we did. The late Mémoiredumaquis hoped that this bishop's deeds would be more widely seen by modern readers, and I agree that this is a very interesting and telling subject, especially to anyone wondering what the Catholic Church was up to during this period in France.

None of us is familiar with the DYK nomination process, and we wonder if you could nominate the item for us? Any help would be much appreciated. Perhaps the hook could be:

Thanks for any help or advice! -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:06, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Ssilvers/@Tim riley/@KJP1, that's a noble cause and a very interesting article, I had no idea that French collaboration with my deplorable countrymen of 80 years ago extended to senior clergy. The Legeard source that is widely used is a WP:SPS that needs additional consideration and is probably not going to fly as sourcing for a Main Page hook.
An alternative to nominating now and asking for an exemption to the rules would be to first polish the article up to WP:GA status and then to nominate within a week of promotion to GA. I am happy to help with nominating once I am convinced with the sourcing. —Kusma (talk) 09:50, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
Kusma, thank you so much for looking into this. Auvity certainly published his hateful writings to influence his French faithful and other French, but those are primary sources. If Legeard will not fly at DYK, then it seems like your Plan B is probably the best option. I don't know if you have any interest in this, but you may want to put up stubs for Auvity and the similarly odious Florent du Bois de La Villerabel on German Misplaced Pages. My own French and German are next to nil, though I like to sing German and French Lieder. -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:17, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

Sockpuppet troll

Hello, and thanks for blocking User:EuphratesTigris. Turns out it's a sock account (and probably not new), so could you please also hide the racist trolling revision at this post by EuphratesTigris, and this post by GangesBrahmaputra? Thanks. Wikishovel (talk) 12:49, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

@Wikishovel, thank you for reminding me. Done. —Kusma (talk) 12:51, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

GANs you might be interested in

Hey, I've got a couple of articles on Mongol women up at GAN, namely Al-Altan and Checheyigen. You gave some good comments at Hö'elün's FAC, so any chance you'd be interested in reviewing them (I'm asking because of the WikiCup)? If not, no worries. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 12:35, 19 October 2024 (UTC)

Interested, yes. I'll see if I can find the time today or tomorrow. (I certainly won't start a review if I can't finish in time for you to claim WikiCup points). At first glance it looks not too difficult to access the sources with TWL? —Kusma (talk) 13:58, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Most should be fine on that count; I can also send you copies if you want. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 16:44, 19 October 2024 (UTC)

WikiCup 2024 November newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, Delaware BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are: Sammi Brie (submissions) with 879 points, Canada Hey man im josh (submissions) with 533 points, BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 432 points, Arconning (submissions) with 244 points, and Christmas Island AryKun (submissions) with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!

The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Misplaced Pages has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!
