== Question: Articles for Deletion ==

] Welcome back all my friend to the show that never ends! We’re so glad you could attend - come inside, come inside. ]] 23:30, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
You made this nomination for ], and though I posted the article and love it as my child, I agree that it's reasonable to consider deleting it. But the tag on the article says it's being considered for deletion under Misplaced Pages's ]. I've searched that policy and found nothing at all about notability. Am I looking in the wrong place, does the policy need to be updated, is it the wrong tag, did I write the article with a non-neutral point of view, do administrators have ] that transcends the written rules, or ????. (I vote for expanding the policy to more clearly include non-notability.)
:Hey, man. Was just thinking about you. How're you holding up? ] (]) 01:31, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

== EddieSegoura Ban Appeal ==
And by the way, the ] article doesn't mention non-notable ideas by notable people. (I'm not complaining, and not defending the Raccoon—just pointing out something that might possibly need to be fixed.) ] 13:10, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

:Very long answer . &mdash;] (]) 18:07, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

::Thank you for the very long answer, and for the information contained therein. Both are worthwhile, and I thank you again. I have two points in reply:

== Everyking's RFA ==
::'''1)''' I didn't originally make the connection between your ''"One 'theory' from one Ann Coulter book; not inherently notable."'' and the policy's ''"Such a minor branch of a subject that it doesn't deserve an article"'' (I hope you can see how a newcomer could miss that connection). Now I see the connection and I agree that the policy's words apply to the Raccoon article.

Hi Bunch, it was great to see you edit today, especially as It was a ]. Hope you are here to stay awhile. ] (]) 18:27, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
::I also now understand the taboo nature of defining "notability," but I'm still not excited that neither the AfD tag nor the proposer's words were very specific about the reason for the AfD recommendation. Since similar things are "brought up (so) often at AfD," I'm thinking that I'm not the only one who is confused about this. Others are possibly disturbed, upset, pissed off, apoplectic, etc. My hope would be that he/she who proposes deletion on the grounds of notability or one of the non-obvious reasons buried in the fine print of the policy would also supply some sort of more specific justification. For the Raccoon, "Minor topic that doesn't deserve its own article" would, IMHO, have sufficed. It would also have avoided any reader's ill-grounded inference that the proposer had any opinions or points of view about the controversial and inflammatory Ms. Coulter (or her work). (And by the way, the first words of the Raccoon article state that it's a "fanciful concept," and not a real "theory." I was pretty careful to put that in, but many readers seem to have missed it.)

== Pardon? ==
::'''2)''' '''You said:''' Lack of "notability" very, very often corresponds with violations of ] and ]. I think this is a '''serious problem''' ''(emphasis mine)'' with your article too, in fact, and I really would ask you to read those two policies carefully. I believe the following portion of your article is unverifiable Original Research:
:::''The ''imagine'', ''perhaps'' and ''might'', italicized by Coulter for emphasis, refer to what she believes is the speculative, mythical, "made-up-story" nature of the theory that species evolved through random mutation and selection.''

Responding to your message on my ]: I have no idea what you're talking about. I changed my name from ''United Statesman'' weeks ago; I've sent no e-mails either. ]</span>]] 23:46, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
:::''The "fundamentalist Christian nut" material refers to what she believes is the tendency of evolutionists (to her, an intolerant religious cult) to respond to criticism by name-calling. Her book presents examples of that tendency.''

==Request for help==
::This is, I think, your description or interpretation of what Coulter means, '''right?''' ''(emphasis mine)''

I am will shortly be posting to ] with the request below. Any support would be appreciated.
::'''I say: Balderdash, sir, balderdash!''' ''(emphasis mine)'' ''';- )''' The source of the quoted material is a notable book from a reliable publisher, and the article links to the Misplaced Pages article about that book. The non-quoted material is my fair summarization (or at least I hope it is fair) of extensive material in the 20-page chapter of which the Raccoon quote is an ] summary. In that chapter, the author gives clear and explicit explanations for the words she italicized in the quotation.

===Request to WP:AN===
::I didn't want to include bulky material from the chapter, or numerous references to specific pages in the book (which most readers probably don't own or haven't read, any more than they own or have recently read ''Origin of Species''). If it's "original research" to edit/distill a chapter for brevity, while retaining the meanings of words and phrases the author explicitly defines in that chapter, I'm guilty.
"I would like to take the article ] to FA. I have already sought input from a number of contributors and have cleared up the issues raised (I am sure there are more). I wrote nearly all of the article using different accounts, as follows:

*]
::And if I'm guilty, then I've got to say that those are pretty tortured interpretations of the words "serious problem" and "original research," especially when the latter formerly meant the research of "physics cranks." (And BTW, I ''did'' re-read the policies. Thanks for the suggestion.)

I would like to continue this work but I am frustrated by the zealous activity of ] who keeps making significant reverts, and blocking accounts wherever he suspects the work of a 'banned user'. (Fram claims s/he doesn't understand "the people who feel that content is more important than anything else").
::I've edited the article to lessen the air of original research. ] 20:52, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Can I please be left in peace with the present account to complete this work. 'History of logic' is a flagship article for Misplaced Pages, and is an argument against those enemies who claim that nothing serious can ever be accomplished by the project". ] (]) 09:58, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
:::Fair enough regarding my original research suspicions: although there is still an interpretive element in summarizing pages worth of material, I admit it is minimal and that it is a commonplace practice to do so. I didn't suspect that Coulter actually spent time syntactically analyzing her rather clear argument; forgive me. I still claim that a topic is not worth encyclopedic coverage unless if secondary sources have discussed it; in the context of a concept like this, the book is a primary source, I think. &mdash;] (]) 21:01, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

== FAR notice ==
::::Yer a good guy, Bunch! (May I call you Bunch?) Smart, too! I'm thinking that the Raccoon really belongs in the article on the book, which doesn't contain much about what the book actually ''says'', but is full of strong and often spurious criticism ("original research"?). The file ] has been ]&#32;because of the following concern:
I certainly '''was''' the guy. Those were glorious days, and glorious days to be Louis F. Sander. For several years back then, I could walk into any shopping mall in North America, on any day of the year, and find my work. (Plus the work of guys like you, of course. I always got a kick out of giving people a taste of recognition.)

My ] lasted and lasted and lasted, but sadly, they ended quite a while ago. All I'm famous for these days is writing dumbass articles on the farts of giant raccoons. (Everybody wants to get rid of them, too, and oddly, I suppose, I agree.) ''OH, how the mighty have fallen!''

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your ] or on ].
A couple of years ago I got an email from a guy whose parents had called him back home to clean out his old computer stuff. As he looked through his ''RUN'' magazines, he found a ''Magic'' item submitted by a guy named ]. I did some research on the famous Tim, and there were reports that he had been a Commodore enthusiast. On that and on the basis of age and hometown, I concluded that the famous Tim and my guy were one and the same. Cool, but when you think about it, I was probably the first person to give Tim a taste of name recognition. Later on, he found a way to get more. Sheesh!

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the ], but other ]es exist. I was thinking the other day that, since I paid most of the contributors directly, I probably have Tim's signature on a cancelled check in my archives. (BTW, you're not Osama bin Laden, are you? If you are, I promise I'll never tell.)

==Please attribute or claim media you uploaded or restored: ]==
I often wonder what ever happened to the hundreds of people whose tips were published in the ''Magic'' column. I'm guessing most have done well, since they had to be pretty clever to come up with something good enough to make it into the column. And, in case you're wondering, I'm thinking that rising to a Misplaced Pages administratorship is a definite sign of doing well! ] 00:43, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

You uploaded or restored , ], but for various reasons did not add an {{tl|information}} block, or indicate your (user) name on the file description page. Media uploaded to Misplaced Pages needs information on the '''SPECIFIC''' authorship and source of files, to ensure that it complies with copyright laws in various jurisdictions.
PS - If the success of your ''Magic'' submission had any effect on your later life, I'd really like to know about it. Sometimes small things leave big marks. (But usually not, of course.)

If it's entirely your own work, '''please include {{tl|own}} in the relevant source field''', amend the {{tl|information}} added by a third party, '''ensuring that your user name (or name you want used for attribution) is clear in the author field''', and change the license to an appropriate "self" variant (if such a license is not already used). You should also add an <nowiki>|author=</nowiki> parameter to the license tag, to assist reviews and image patrollers. You can also add <code><nowiki>|claimed=yes</nowiki></code> and an <code><nowiki>|author=</nowiki></code>to the {{tl|media by uploader}} or {{tl|presumed_self}} tag if it is present to indicate that you've acknowledged the image, and license shown (and updated the {{tl|information}} where appropriate).
PPS - My first taste of Moutai was with Jim Butterfield, a Commodore writer who flourished earlier than I did, and who IMHO was the only person ahead of me on the list of famous Commodore writers.

If it's not entirely your own work, then please update the source and authorship fields, so that they accurately reflect the source and authors of the original work(s), as well as the derivative you created. You should also not use a "self" license unless the work is entirely you own. Media that is incorrectly claimed as self or {{tl|own}}, will eventually be listed at ] or deleted, unless it's full status is entirely clear to other contributors, reviewers and image patrollers.
:And even the raccoon articles are derivitave of somebody else's work. But I guess the ''Magic'' column was, too. ] 01:29, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Whilst this notification, relates to a single media upload, it would also be appreciated if you could ensure that appropriate attribution exists for other media you uploaded, You can find a list of files you have created .

It's okay to remove or strike this message once the issue has been resolved :).
On ], someone has wanted to change "from Christian legend and pseudopygrapha" to "from Christian mythology and pseudopygrapha" and change "fall of Satan" to "the Great Fall." I've gone reverting a couple of times now. I attempted a compromise by allowing them (there are two accounts suddenly interested in a poem by the Pearl Poet) to have their link in an easter egg and have a display text of "legend." See what you think.

] (]) 07:54, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
By the way, for background: there is a lot of talk about "myth means just story in Greek, and so it should be used all the time now." That's actually untrue. In ancient Greek, the word did mean just "story" for a while, but it already meant "fabulous story" by the time of Plato. This is in addition to the fact that ''in English'' it means "untrue story." Seems to me that you need a ''reason'' to push that change and to try to reshape 400 years of English usage and another 600 years of Greek usage. However, that's not really the point, here. The point is whether there is any purpose at all in having a link to an incendiary term, when it's not central to the article and, in fact, not informative to the article. (Readers get zero benefit from clicking the link.) ] 01:53, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

== question on link ==

Bunchofgrapes,

I added what I considered to be a valuable link to the Oroonoko page - a study guide by GradeSaver. You removed it because you said it was a commercial link.

However, if you read the content in the study guide, I think you will agree that it is a very valuable resource for students written by other students. Further, the content on the page complements the Misplaced Pages page on Oroonoko by providing additional content that most readers would be looking for. I thought this was the whole point of putting external links up.

I would appreciate your feedback as to why this link was removed. <small>—The preceding ] comment was added by ] (] • ]) 17:16, July 15, 2006 (UTC{{{3|}}})</small>

:I rolled it back as well. There are multiple online notes for the novel, as it is, indeed, the most studied of Behn's works. However, we consciously chose not to link to ''any'' of them. The only one linked to was a professor's course on the novel, and that was only made to demonstrate to the reader the critical contexts in which the novel is read (post-colonialism, in his case). ''Had we'' wished to give complementary materials, I think I would have opted for SparkNotes first. However, since we're avoiding all of them, we should avoid the one you favor as well. ] 02:10, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Request to WP:AN

"I would like to take the article History of logic to FA. I have already sought input from a number of contributors and have cleared up the issues raised (I am sure there are more). I wrote nearly all of the article using different accounts, as follows:

I would like to continue this work but I am frustrated by the zealous activity of User:Fram who keeps making significant reverts, and blocking accounts wherever he suspects the work of a 'banned user'. (Fram claims s/he doesn't understand "the people who feel that content is more important than anything else").

Can I please be left in peace with the present account to complete this work. 'History of logic' is a flagship article for Misplaced Pages, and is an argument against those enemies who claim that nothing serious can ever be accomplished by the project". Notice of change

Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Eddie again

Bunchie, there's a new ban appeal by Eddie Segoura here on AN which looks to be going well. I'll wait for your opinion, if you have one, before I jump one way or the other. I was quite impressed by the stubborn disruptiveness of Eddie in the distant past, but they say people can change. Anyway, nobody knows more about it than you. Bishonen | talk 09:49, 18 May 2015 (UTC).

I guess my comments from the 2009 appeal (which I did not actually oppose) still stand. I'm willing to believe there's a decent chance he won't be malicious, and if the community wants to put up with what a pain-in-the-ass he can be is even when he's being good, there's little reason not to give him another shot. A quick look at his edits as WikiBaseballFan actually have me wondering if he hasn't grown up some in the last six years, even. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 15:35, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. You uploaded or restored , File:Tulipface spin.gif, but for various reasons did not add an {{information}} block, or indicate your (user) name on the file description page. Media uploaded to Misplaced Pages needs information on the SPECIFIC authorship and source of files, to ensure that it complies with copyright laws in various jurisdictions.

If it's entirely your own work, please include {{own}} in the relevant source field, amend the {{information}} added by a third party, ensuring that your user name (or name you want used for attribution) is clear in the author field, and change the license to an appropriate "self" variant (if such a license is not already used). You should also add an |author= parameter to the license tag, to assist reviews and image patrollers. You can also add |claimed=yes and an |author=to the {{media by uploader}} or {{presumed_self}} tag if it is present to indicate that you've acknowledged the image, and license shown (and updated the {{information}} where appropriate).

If it's not entirely your own work, then please update the source and authorship fields, so that they accurately reflect the source and authors of the original work(s), as well as the derivative you created. You should also not use a "self" license unless the work is entirely you own. Media that is incorrectly claimed as self or {{own}}, will eventually be listed at Files for Discussion or deleted, unless it's full status is entirely clear to other contributors, reviewers and image patrollers.

Whilst this notification, relates to a single media upload, it would also be appreciated if you could ensure that appropriate attribution exists for other media you uploaded, You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

It's okay to remove or strike this message once the issue has been resolved :).

Happy New Year

Hi BOG, I just thought I’d drop by to wish you a prosperous New Year and say it would be nice to see a little more of you around the place. Giano (talk) 21:36, 28 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi and thanks, Giano. Is everything all fixed around here, then, or are you all still slaving away for the glory of our "betters"? —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 03:54, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
Yep, everything’s fixed. The place is a positive Utopia, never been better - Jimbo asks me in for a weekly beer to sound out my views for advice. Glad to see you are still looking in. Have a great 2020. Giano (talk) 00:24, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
