== CatchPhrase celebrity section. ==

Hello {{BASEPAGENAME}},
Hi I just had a question about the CatchPhrase Misplaced Pages page. Recently, SolomanMckenzie added in a section about the celebrity episodes being broadcast and the winnings. and the like.
]
There recently has been a crackdown on game shows like The Chase UK or Tipping Point Lucky Stars, where certain other uses have deemed episode guides and lists of celebrities to be fancruft and NOTSTATS (you can check the edit histories of both programmes). Even after this has been mentioned on both programmes, users like Soloman McKenzie likes to add in lists of Celebrities or episode guides which do get reverted. Would this section that this user has added be considered fancruft as well?
Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The ] finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the ]. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.
This is an article for Deletion discussion that occured for a similar game show discussing it. any advice would be appreciated.

'''Awards''': Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to {{Noping|MPGuy2824}}), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to {{no ping|John B123}} for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the ]. Check out the new ] also.
== Batch file ==
'''Software news''': {{Noping|Novem Linguae}} and {{Noping|MPGuy2824}} have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently ]. The ] has also been improved.
]
'''Suggestions''':
*There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
*Reminder: ''an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more.'' (from the ])
*Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
*This ] puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

'''Backlog''':] Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the ] to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!
Please explain how I can properly add the link to www.BatToExeConverter.com to the batch file page. My compiler is my lives work. It started a software category in 2003 and it adds many useful commands to batch files that cannot be found elseware.

It also allows users to hide their batch file code and add an icon. They can raise code to ADMIN level execution status and embed their company name and copyright/version information in the file properties.

I was also trying to remove the part of the article that contains malicious batch file code in order to prevent ignoarant people sharing malicious code to hard working people. This can cost time and money to thousands of people if it is not removed. Someone could potentionally lose their job or even worst. Why was I blocked from making these changes.

I am new to editing wiki articles but I feel my changes are necessary. Please help me make these changes.

Always here to help.

What I really put are FACTS, which are always OBJECTIVE, because they are true and what is subjective is somebody's opinion... I am open to different opinions and I also included some of negative or critical opinions in a text! I have no problems with that... But, if Your whole text is based on negative opinions or few years old information INSTEAD of facts, maybe because facts include for example this person's success in some area or rewards or so then I wish to ask You: does it mean that "objectivity" in case of Mr Osmanagich for You or for the wiki? is that HAVE to be given exclusively NEGATIVE "information" and opinions about that person? Because it is obvious that ANY positive FACT, not to talk about opinion is not tolerating at all... Or?

Hi Amortias, I'm new to editing wikipedia pages and I just received your message regarding my edits to Rob Stone's page. Could use your help with this page. I work for Rob Stone and I noticed that his page says: "The neutrality of this article is disputed. Relevant discussion may be found on the talk page. :Hi {{U|Joycefdm}}, the best way fo making changes to the article would be to go to the talk page of the article and click the new section button. Insert <nowiki>{{requested edit}}</nowiki> on the first line of the new section then state what you want to change, it would need to be in an ''I want to change X to Y'' format. The main reasons for this are that as you are employed by the article namesake there would be a ] in you editing directly, by posting the request on the talk page in question this will give an uninvolved editor chance to review and implement your edit to the article whiel makign sure it remains within the guidelines for editing. ] (])(]) 20:40, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

== removed content regarding "decreased risk" ==

Removed the content regarding decreased suicide risk because the section read like a pharmaceutical company advertisement and was inappropriately in the wiki article regarding increased risk NOT decreased risk. Perhaps a new article should be started for this PHARMA advertisement? Maybe we have enough on television? In fact the information cited in the content I removed was from an article sponsored and with data SUPPLIED by the pharmaceutical industry. Here is the footnote from the very article the section cited and used.

"Additional Contributions: Data were supplied by the National Institute of Mental Health (Treatment for Adolescents With Depression Study), Wyeth, and Eli Lilly and Co.

Financial Disclosure: Dr Gibbons has served as an expert witness for . . ."Wyeth, and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in cases related to antidepressants and anticonvulsants and suicide. Dr Brown directed a suicide prevention program at the University of South Florida that received funding from JDS Pharmaceuticals. Dr Mann has received research support from GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis"

:Hi, if this is the case then you can remove the information but you will need to explain why in the edit summary box so other users are awae of the reasons for the removal. ] (])(]) 17:48, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

I left message as you suggested in edit summary reason box and was again undone.
Told I was edit warring although i gave explanation which was cogent
What do now?

'''Drive:''' Thanks to everyone who participated in ]. Of the 43 people who signed up for this drive, 26 copy edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available ].

'''Progress report:''' The November Drive removed 26 requests from the Requests page and 509 articles from the {{tl|copy edit}} backlog. We copy edited 83 articles tagged in the target months; July, August, and September 2013. Together with tag removals from articles unsuitable for copy editing, we eliminated July 2013 from the backlog and reduced August and September's tags to 61 and 70 respectively. As of 01:01, 1 December 2014 (UTC), the backlog stood at 1,974 articles, dipping below 2,000 for the first time in the Guild's history (see graph at right). Well done everyone!

'''Blitz''': The ] will run from December 14–20 and will focus on articles related to '''Religion''', in recognition of this month's religious holidays in much of the English-speaking world. Awards will be given out to everyone who copy edits at least one of the target articles. ]!

;2022 Awards
]
{{no ping|Onel5969}} won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. My name is Merlin Ignatova and I am Hassan and Ibrahim's sister. Generally I do not edit pages on Misplaced Pages, but my brothers have already created one. As someone who knows a lot more about them, I decided to correct their Misplaced Pages. The name of their website in Misplaced Pages is correct to write Hassan and Ibrahim Ignatovi , NOT Brothers Ignatovi. They are familiar with their names Hassan and Ibrahim Ignatovi (Хасан и Ибрахим Игнатови), not as Brothers Ignatovi (Братя Игнатови).It would be easier for me to correspond with you via an e--mail or Facebook, because this page is inaccessible for me to discuss any the topic.

Hello,

I would like to inquire why you deleted the article ]? I saved the article earlier than I intended and was still working on it. However, if I recall correctly, the content of the article as I saved it did state he was the chair of the Physics department at Columbia University, which I believe indicates he is notable. I will shortly be posting some more information about his academic accomplishments and impact.

Thanks, ] (]) 21:01, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

:Hi, the article wasnt deleted by myself but by an administrator, i merely flagged it as not appearing to meet the criteria for inclusion on Misplaced Pages. If you want to work on an article before you publish it without risk of deletion there is an area located within your pages labelled ''Sandbox'' (link located on the top row of your pages) you can create an article here make requests for feedback and edit until you are happy that it is ready to be published in the main ody of Misplaced Pages. If you view the page that was deleted it will tell you who deleted it and you can request they move the article to your drafts for further work. ] (])(]) 21:04, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
::Thank you for your response. As I said, I was preparing the article but saved prematurely. I'm wondering which criteria for inclusion you believe the article did not meet? Hi

you recently sent me a message regarding my edit to the Milton Keynes page. I removed a link to the city status in the UK page as it is unnecessary and hasn't been added for other large towns pages. There is a section on the city status page referring to large towns and if these had same link provided for Milton Keynes that would be fine but as they don't I am removing the link on the MK page. I am sorry if I am not following the correct etiquette and protocols here, I am new to editing Misplaced Pages. I will read up on how to post and edit soon as I may have dived in a bit here.

== Edits to Mal Brough regarding the Northern Territory Emergency Response ==

Hi,

You recently removed an edit I made to page: Mal Brough regarding the Northern Territory Emergency Response. As the single biggest event in Mal's political career to date, it is certainly valid. I referenced an article on 'The Conversation' written by a university lecturer and based on the work on internationally renowned journalist, John Pilger. I also cited a 'Fact Check' article from SBS broadcasting. Both have their own editorial boards.

Is there any reason my edit can not be returned?

Thank you

:Hi, it appears that the same person who originally added the information has readded it to the article. The section in the lead appears unnesseacry as it is also included very soon in the main body of the article. It might be worth removing it from the lead.
:If the edits were added back by yourself you should be careful as editing while logged out may give the impression you are ] wether intentional or not. ] (])(]) 00:47, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
I'm new to this so sorry for any inconsistencies with using the system. Is this how I'm meant to reply to you? I just added an account after editing but will complete future edits while logged in.
I added one line about the Northern Territory Emergency Response to the lead as it is the single biggest event in his political career and of greater impact than other points in the lead.
Thanks

== S. J. Singer Misplaced Pages entry ==

Dear Amortias, In response to your question: Two references are included in the sentence I added to the S.J. Singer article. They refer to articles by me (John Lenard) and S.J. Singer that were published in two highly prestigious scientific journals: Proceedings of the National Academy of Scienes, USA, and Science. They are dated 1966 and 1968, hence pre-date the first "fluid mosaic" publications by several years. Their veracity can be easily checked should you wish to do so. In fact, Garth took up the membrane project after I left the laboratory; hence, I have called these first two papers on membrane protein structure from the Singer lab "foundational", because they did in fact form the basis for Garth's excellent subsequent work. I hope this is satisfactory. If there are any problems please contact me at johnlenardnoo@gmail.com. ≈≈≈≈John Lenard
:Hi, the references put in on the first occassion wernt constructed correctly for them to show as refernce on the article hence the revision, they now appear to have been entered correclty so this should suffice. ] (])(]) 19:43, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

Hello Amortias,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

Hello Amortias,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

Hello Amortias,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).
