Please do the honourable thing and resign as a bureaucrat. It's the least you could do. I'm sure you meant well, but you have torn the community apart. ] 03:36, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
: Oh please, give me a break. Linuxbeak has acted quite admirably throughout this entire debacle, which is more than I can say for most. Are you suggesting that Raul654 resign as well? <nowiki></RHETORIC></nowiki> ] 05:48, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
:: Nothing about his conduct has been 'admirable'. Understandably human, perhaps, and rash, but not admirable. -- ] 06:29, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
:: The honourable thing to do is the resign - regardless of whether you meant well or not. Bureaucratship is a position of the highest trust in the community. If you have traumatised the community the way that Alex did, and then walk out on the mess you created, without taking full responsibility for your actions, it says a lot about your suitability for such a position of trust. ] 17:23, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
:::Please remember that it was only after the (ultimately unsuccessful) personal negotiation between LB and Daniel Brandt that LB stood for bureaucrat and was confirmed by the community in the first place. Please do not presume what the status of the long term trust of the community in LB will be in this case. ] ] 17:47, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
::::I'd say the perverted justice thing was much more of the stepping off point. As for "presum what the status of the long term trust of the community in LB will be" - I don't follow your point. Sure, he may regain the trust of the community - admitting he was wrong, not making flippant comments about people he drove out, not running away from the mess he created and resigning as a b'crat would do the job in my book. Do those things, and I would be willing to consider a new RFB in 6-12 months. But right now, the only honourable thing left for him to do is to resign. ] 19:04, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi there! I'm posting to inform you of an ongoing discussion at ], which is of relevance to you as an en.wiki bureaucrat. The discussion centres around whether bureaucrat status should be considered a 'lifetime' appointment like administrators, or whether bureaucrats should be subject to periodic reconfirmation in a manner more like the stewards. There is also consideration for a separate re-evaluation of the status of those bureaucrats who were promoted in the early days of wikipedia, when the standards at RfB were significantly lower than they are currently, and whether such users still retain the explicit trust of the community.
Shut up, Guettarda. ] 14:46, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
As an "inactive bureaucrat" (one who has not performed a 'crat action in the past year), we're particularly keen to hear your thoughts on these issues; in particular the following:
:That's a great thought, coming from you of all people, Kim. ] 15:18, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
*Do you consider yourself to still be a wikipedia bureaucrat ''in spirit'', or is the flag essentially just a legacy? Do you have any intention of ever returning to being an 'active' bureaucrat?
:: Sorry, nothing personal. There would just be far too much trouble if I didn't strongly counter your above statements. ] 13:57, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
*What do you consider your position to be in terms of your 'mandate' from the community, in comparison to more recently-promoted bureaucrats?
*Would you be amenable to surrendering the bureaucrat flag, or participating in a reconfirmation RfB, if asked to do so? In what circumstances would you consider such an action?
Your thoughts on these, and any other comments you may have, would be very much appreciated. We have set up a section on the discussion page, ], for such responses.

Why did you close Poetlister's RfA so soon? Wow! First off, I have to congratulate you for such an honest, thorough, and well-written response. I've read it twice, checking up on the appropriate pages about each step. I can now understand why you have earned the position of a 'crat...your understanding of wikiprocess is much more detailed than most people here.
On that note, I'd like to get your opinion on some of the ideas I have. I have my eye set on bringing ] up to Featured Article status. It actually has many of the same problems as the Fencing article you mentioned: the article is chock full of facts—each sentence is weighted down by information. You can see in ] that this was one of the main issues. It also has the problem of being hated by many casual readers, a lot of people would prefer approximated things like "STAY-shun," instead of the IPA "steɪʃən."
So I figure I'd do things in this order: I'll alert some heavy contributors to the article, such as ], ], and ]. I'll also contact the members of ].
I do have a giant written resource, ''The World's Writing Systems'', which should help a lot....but the chapter on my topic cites each fact from a previous resource, so should I cite the book's sources, or just the book?
My final issue is with Peer review. Since this article has already had one, how do I create a second? Thanks for helping me out.

#What do you do in real life<small>TM</small>?
#:In "real life"? What's that? ;-) I do several things in real life. I am a CSA (customer service advisor) at a Sears Auto Center, and I am also a computer (PC/servers) repairman. I am interested in computers in general, aviation, fencing, and a variety of other interesting things.
#What personal/professional experience would you bring to the board, if elected?
#:Personally and professionally, I would bring my experience as a leader of several projects and organizations to the board. I am a leader, not a follower, and (if I'm elected) I do not intend to change that.
#::As you are certainly aware, there already is (at least) one leader on the board. How do you intend to lead him ? What would be your style ? ]
#What do you see as the role of a board member?
#:A board member is an executive of the Foundation. Board members are responsible for insuring that things at the helm of the project go smoothly as well as ultimately deciding which paths Wikimedia is to go. What is your opinion on how the board should be constituted ? Do you think it should exclusively be composed of editors of our projects ? If so, rather elected or appointed ? Do you think we should have some people external to our community ? In those listed in the past two months on Foundation -l, can you list those you think would be great board members and those who might reveal dangerous for our dream ?
Do you have names to suggest for board expansion ?
====Copyright==== | |||
Do you think the Foundation should be a publisher ? If not, do you think it should control what is publish, through the authorization (or not) of use of our brands ? Do you know of one project currently trying to be edited and in conflict with the Foundation on that matter ?
====Money==== | |||
What should be the business plan of the Foundation ? How would you suggest it earns money ?
====Chapters==== | |||
Do you know whether there is a logo use agreement between the chapters and the Foundation ?
====Threat and forces====
Can you cite 3 forces of the Foundation ? Can you cite the main 3 threats for our projects as of today ?

:I think you're misunderstanding the statement. I would be an advocate for users who require the attention of the board, and I'm not insinuating that the board is "jaded".

:"Cut bureaucracy and unnecessary red tape as to make the projects more productive"
What bureaucracy do you speak of here? The processes for requesting a wiki for a new language? for donating? or for electing Board members? for adding patches to the live en wiki? etc. And how much are these unnamed reams of red tape impeding projects? Or could you be speaking of funding difficulties here; perhaps you would suggest advertising? As such a popular website, en is an obvious revenue stream of advertising, and forgoing this is a real and conscious decision that has to be constantly affirmed and re-affirmed. What are your views regarding advertising on Foundation-sponsored projects?
:No, no, no, and no. Regarding "Or could you be speaking of funding difficulties here; perhaps you would suggest advertising", please do '''not''' put words in my mouth. I ''never'' said anything about advertising, and I have repeatedly stated in the past that I am totally against the idea of advertisement. Misplaced Pages would not be The 💕 if there was advertising. The day that advertisements on Misplaced Pages show up is the day that I resign, for I do not work for anyone except the public here.
::Had to ask about advertising (I remember your reaction to the Answers.com thing, but it was possible your opinions had since changed) - if you're following the other candidates' pages, I've asked everyone whose statements did not mention advertising there opinion about it. Dear Linuxbeak,
== Hi. == | |||
My name is Jonathan Obar ], I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community], where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
Hey, are you the same Alex Schenck that used to hang out on the America's Army IRC server? I was just reading an article in the NY Times today and saw your name mentioned, and thought it sounded familiar ;) ] 04:59, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
== Hello == | |||
So a few things about the interviews:
* Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
* Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
* All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
* All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
* The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Hi, Linuxbeak. Since you indicated ] that you did not think ] was a sockpuppet for ] (based on the IP evidence available at the time, without having seen the linguistic evidence, and possibly without any knowledge of Giovanni's long history of sockpuppetry), I thought I would direct you to ], in case you have missed it. Jayjg has '''confirmed''' through checkuser that Professor33, NeoOne, and CleanSocks are all sockpuppets of Giovanni33. Giovanni has now come as close as I think he ''can'' come (without losing face) to admitting sockpuppetry. He has agreed ] that it doesn't pay, and has asked to be unblocked on condition that all suspected socks can be assumed to be his, and that he will not revert or make supporting arguments where they are, and that if he votes with them, his votes can be struck through. I think the idea is that ''if'' they are his puppets (which he doesn't want to admit, and I see no reason to force a confession), he will ensure that they don't show up to revert for him, and if some future editors turn up and support him and start reverting to his version, and are suspected of being his puppets, he is prepared to leave the pages where they are. I've made a proposal ], at the Incidents Noticeboard. If you really have nothing to do with your time, you can read Part One and Part two immediately above! Also, ] of Danny's talk page gives a summary of this history and contains links to all or nearly all the places where it has been discussed. The blocking admin has indicated that he will consider unblocking early, and I'd be happy with that, but I think we need to work out the conditions that Giovanni agrees to first. Don't feel you have to get involved, but if you have time, a comment at the noticeboard would be welcome. I'm hoping to have this sorted out as soon as possible, because I need to go on wiki-break to finish some writing. I know you received my long e-mail report. I presume you also received the fairly recent update with new evidence? Oh, and I want to thank you also for waiting to see the full evidence rather than for jumping right in when the limited evidence indicated that the block might have been unjust. Cheers. ] ] 19:18, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Re-evaluation of bureaucrat status
Hi there! I'm posting to inform you of an ongoing discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:Bureaucrat removal, which is of relevance to you as an en.wiki bureaucrat.
As an "inactive bureaucrat" (one who has not performed a 'crat action in the past year), we're particularly keen to hear your thoughts on these issues; in particular the following:
- Do you consider yourself to still be a wikipedia bureaucrat in spirit, or is the flag essentially just a legacy? Do you have any intention of ever returning to being an 'active' bureaucrat?
- What do you consider your position to be in terms of your 'mandate' from the community, in comparison to more recently-promoted bureaucrats?
- Would you be amenable to surrendering the bureaucrat flag, or participating in a reconfirmation RfB, if asked to do so? In what circumstances would you consider such an action?
Your thoughts on these, and any other comments you may have, would be very much appreciated. We have set up a section on the discussion page, Misplaced Pages talk:Bureaucrat removal#'Crat comments, for such responses.
Many thanks in advance, Happy‑melon 23:59, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Came across a familiar face when looking through WP:FB... reliving Wikimemories now. I haven't been in IRC in the longest time, and don't think I could handle getting back into it. How are you? — BRIAN0918 • 2009-09-02 17:37Z

Thanks for a funny read
I see that you just edited a few days ago, so I hope you'll read this before the end of 2012. Going down a rabbit trail, I just saw your log entries for blocking JarlaxleArtemis on 18 September 2005; very funny :-) Nyttend (talk) 03:09, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview
Dear Linuxbeak,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talk • contribs) 03:56, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
Crat statement draft
Hi Following the drama at BN, I'm trying to come up with a statement all Crats could agree to. Please take a look, below. I am quite content to do this onwiki -we have always worked transparently, except where secrecy is essential (ie RTV). I think we should be able to wordsmith a statement acceptable to all, and I think it's an important thing to do.
- In my opinion, this issue has come about through an unfortunate proliferation of documentation: policy, guideline, how-to etc
- I am not convinced that there is community consensus on all of the points encapsulated in those various pages
- I am unhappy at what may be described as some or all of: inconsistencies, inaccuracies or lack of clarity in that documentation
- I do not believe that any of the issues we have faced have been caused by Crats trying to widen their powers
- I would like to see the issues clarified, based on consensus, and for the documentation to be updated accordingly
- I'd like to thank Griot-de for generously withdrawing the rename request
Signed Lmk what you think. Many thanks, --Dweller (talk) 13:41, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Misplaced Pages:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. - As a heads up, per Misplaced Pages:Bureaucrats#Removal_of_permissions, this will need to include the bureaucrat permission as well as the administrator one. Wizardman 15:15, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
