Hi! I was thinking of writing an article on Louis Jones when I found it it had been AFD'ed awhile ago: ]
Hello it's been awhile since I've been on here. Although, we've come into contact through Misplaced Pages gang related articles. While we have had disputes over handling of race issues which I am very socially liberal about, I apologize for coming at you hostile. We need to be allies in order to make things work. There are bigger political issues on Misplaced Pages and I think you know what I'm talking about. There are Wikipedians who don't value freedom of speech or freedom of information, and I honestly wouldn't doubt that they are being payed off this very moment. While we disagree on some points, we both have something in common: a love for the Constitution, accuracy, and presentation of facts. There is few of us here on Misplaced Pages and we are outnumbered. Neutral point of view, lack of COI, and accuracy of information needs to be kept alive here. ]] 03:36, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

:*I really don't see how it changes anything. It still reverts back to the fact that Jones notability stems from him singular criminal incident. If that crime didn't happen, this op/ed piece wouldn't have been written, at least not with him as the example. ] (]) 15:22, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
::What if the article was renamed to be about the crime? BTW I think that generally any judicial execution that gets significant media attention nationally and/or internationally (many Texas executions have been covered by European newspapers) should pass WP:GNG ] (]) 16:34, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
::*If there is continuing coverage, possibly. If all the coverage is immediately around the crime, trial or execution, then it looks more like news coverage and recentism. Remember, "''most newsworthy events do not qualify for inclusion''." How much significant coverage of it has happened after 2003? ] (]) 16:51, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
::::Here's what I found so far:
::::A 2004 textbook ''Capital Punishment: Cruel and Unusual?'' ()
::::Jones's lawyer, Timothy W. Floyd, wrote a about his involvement in the Louis Jones case, published as a part of ''A Life in the Law: Advice for Young Lawyers'' published by the ] (2009) (he didn't write the whole book: he wrote one chapter of it)
:::: of ''Human Behavior in the Social Environment: A Macro, National, and International Perspective'' (2009) discussed the Louis Jones case in relation to Gulf War Syndrome, arguing that it could be an example of a genuine syndrome case, citing surveys of veterans. I don't know how "significant" this mention should be.
::::Nowadays death penalty cases tend to be media circuses from conviction until execution, so coverage extends as appeals are filed and/or denied.
::::] (]) 17:15, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
:*The first textbook is a single paragraph in a listing of cases. The paragraph says nothing beyond the fact that it happened and it's on the list for reasons really having nothing to do with the crime from what I see. I can't even call it coverage of the topic. It's a mention that it happened. The second book is a first person recounting of what happened from his POV. It's less about the case than about using the case to illustrate a lesson to young lawyers. The last one is another reference to the fact that it happened, but nothing about the actual case. It mentions he asserted GWS but nothing else. Again, it isn't coverage, but a mention that states nothing about the actual case that wasn't known 6 years prior. I'm becoming more convinced that deleting this was the right call in 2009. ] (]) 19:35, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
::Okay. I decided to look into the matter some more, to see whether there was material released after 1995-2003 (including the years in between) and/or some other factor that would show something special about the case. I found this: "." - It's a 2003 article, but...
::*"Jones had powerful people working to spare his life. Former presidential candidate Ross Perot, who has helped fund research into the illnesses plaguing many Gulf War veterans, tried to get Jones' sentence commuted to life without parole. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, a Texas Republican, said last month the execution should be delayed while experts determine whether Jones suffers from Gulf War syndrome, a term used to describe a variety of illnesses suffered by Gulf War veterans."
::I don't think it's very common for death row inmates to get support from national level politicians like ] or ] (a U.S. senator) clamoring for a delay in execution or commuting of the sentence. Personally after discovering that, I'm leaning towards DRV or something to that effect.
::] (]) 22:02, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
:::*I'm not sure how much you spend look at death row inmates, but plenty of them get celebs getting involved. Regardless, that was still back in 2003 and everything with Jones comes back to one event. Take it to DRV if you like. I haven't heard anything that changes my mind about the notability. ] (]) 00:21, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Misplaced Pages policies and guidelines; currently Misplaced Pages needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Thanks. — Insertcleverphrasehere 17:45, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages

++ 03:36, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

Peace and former apology

TheGridExe (talk) has given you a dove!
I would like to formally apologize for a personal attack I made back in February 2012 about edits pertaining to a location with city limits. It seems better for me to address it as I now know differences between city limits and unincorporated counties and it's been wrong for me to verbally attack another fellow editor.

Spread the peace of doves by adding {{subst:Peace dove}} to someone's talk page with a friendly message!

I'd completely forgotten about this. It's all good. Niteshift36 (talk) 16:26, 3 April 2018 (UTC)

I figured haha but still didn't feel right to now edit articles about the things I used to complain about. Cheers! ♫ TheGridExe (talk) 12:53, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
