Bean is forced to go to hospital, after getting his hand stuck in a teapot. He drives in and parks directly behind an ambulance, blocking the rear doors in the process. Inside, Bean gets impatient while waiting in the queue, and cheats his way to the front by first throwing a child's doll and then starting a fight between two men. After Bean takes the numbered ticket from the counter, he races towards the last remaining chair in the waiting room, sitting down just in time to prevent a frail old man from sitting there.

That night, Bean prepares for bed but struggles to fall asleep. He tries various methods, like scaring cats away by pretending to be a dog, sleeping in different positions, and watching a chess game. Just as he starts to doze off, a loud advertisement wakes him up. Frustrated, he begins counting sheep in a picture and later uses a calculator. The sight of the number on the calculator finally puts him to sleep.
Bean sees his ticket numbered 76 while the digital counter shows 23. Just as Bean checks the time on his watch, he inadvertently reveals his hand stuck in the teapot, prompting the woman at the counter and a seriously-injured patient sitting next to him (with head wrapped in bandages, and an arm and a leg in plaster) to laugh at him.

Then he steals a lower-numbered ticket (52) from the severely-injured patient and sneakily overturns a digital counter (so that 25 looks like 52). But the seriously injured patient thwarts Bean by holding the handle of the teapot on his hand, and the digital counter is returned to normal after patients complain of being overlooked. Some time later, Bean falls asleep in waiting and as the digital counter reaches 52, he wakes up and he loses his ticket (back to the patient who had it originally). So, Bean has to get another ticket. Again, he starts a fight between the same two men from earlier to get immediately to the counter. He is frustrated when he picks a larger number ticket and he throws it in the bin, but his other hand gets stuck as he tries to stuff the ticket into the bin to show his frustration. Unable to recover it, he picks another ticket by using his mouth.

When he sees the number of sheep (albeit inaccurate) on the calculator display, he promptly falls asleep. After the closing credits, he rolls out of bed and falls onto the floor.

"Goodnight Mr. Bean" is the thirteenth episode of the British television series Mr. Bean, produced by Tiger Aspect Productions and Thames Television for Central Independent Television. It was first broadcast on ITV on Tuesday, 31 October 1995.

Plot

Part One

Mr. Bean visits the hospital after getting his hand stuck in a teapot. He obstructs an ambulance by parking his car poorly, cheats in the queue, and rudely takes a chair from an old man. While waiting, he annoys an injured patient beside him and is laughed at when he accidentally reveals his stuck hand while checking the time. Frustrated by the long wait, Bean swaps his ticket for a lower number and tries to manipulate the digital counter, but is thwarted by another patient. After falling asleep, he loses his ticket and has to get a new one. Annoyed by his high number ticket, he throws it in the bin but gets his other hand stuck, leading him to use his mouth to retrieve another ticket as he walks away with his hand still trapped.

Part Two

Bean visits Windsor Castle and takes several photographs. Upon seeing a Queen's Guard, he decorates the guard with flowers, trims his moustache, and hangs Teddy off his bayonet. The guard attempts to remain motionless, which proves difficult, especially when Bean starts to clean the trigger of his rifle. Just as Bean sets the self timer for a photo, the guard marches away, much to Bean's frustration.
