Now its almost entirely rewritten in a near-neutral language. I'm considering putting it up for GA assessment.-- ॐ ] 16:33, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

# The references need to be cited better. See ] for pointers.
:Not neutral enough, I'd suggest. The opening paragraph contains the following: "...powerful voice and majestic singing, which catapulted him to instant fame...". "powerful", "majestic", "catapulted" all very subjective words, and no citation for any of them.
#:Along with this, consider some non-web references. They may be hard to come by given the language gap, but his importance would probably suggest some possible better references.
# It's very listy. Consider working the paragraph breaks for performances and appearances into a more prose-based standard. The way it breaks up is jarring when read.
# Consider moving the recordings to their own separate pages. The article is detailed enough where it doesn't need to be here, plenty can be said to sustain individual articles, and that's the basic standard anyway.
# Fair use images need rationales, and if you're planning to eventually bring this to FA, you may need some more detail regarding the GFDL licensing, but I'm not sure about that.

  • Oppose per WP:UCN. He is most commonly known by the name "Chembai", even though it is not his full given name. One hates to compare him to "Prince" or "Madonna", but actually those examples are not far off of why we should call him "Chembai" and not "Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar". • Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. He is almost universally known as Chembai and not by his full name. While the name stands for his village, this is a case where the name itself is associated primarily with the individual and not the place from which he got it. When the village article is created it can reside at Chembai, Palakkad district and a hatnote from here should suffice. —SpacemanSpiff 18:46, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
Those who oppose, please tell me how this article (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi) is named so, even though the whole world knows him as Mahatma Gandhi ?
Anish Viswa 01:17, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
There was a recent discussion where it was proposed that that article be moved to Mahatma Gandhi, and I supported that proposal. In other words, I believe that that article is currently misnamed. Good Ol’factory 22:33, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
There is no specific example under WP:UCN to map to this one. Using just 'Chembai' feels like calling a buddy, sometimes sound irreverent also. In all formal and official cases, his name is referred only as Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, with due respect, by Government bodies and media. This is not the case of a popular name and another formal name, but a case where only a portion of his name is used (which actually do not contain his name). If the above argument is to be taken, then the article William Shakespeare should become Shakespeare, becuase the world calls him by that single name only.
