Hi, I'd just like to apologise if any of my behaviour seemed disruptive with regards to the Steve Rogers image. I was reading a previous discussion of a similar Wikipedian who encountered the same problem, and it turned out because the e-mail used on the Misplaced Pages Library application was different than the one on the Newspapers.com account. == Achieving consensus at Talk:Cross-country skiing (sport)? ==
Netoholic, you are invited to participate in a ranked-choice poll at ], which may help arrive at a consensus among the choices discussed. I have set up an opportunity for you to do so. Cheers, ] (]) 17:53, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
:Hi Netoholic, I understand your good-faith concern about ], which says, "The words "vote" and "voting" have a variety of connotations, but they are commonly associated specifically with ballot-casting or majority voting." It goes on to say, "Different terminology (e.g. "seeking views", "polling" and "commenting") may be preferable." Indeed, what I have offered was a '''poll''' to help guide those participating in the discussion to consensus in a situation where none of the alternatives offered is "wrong"; there's just a question of preference among them.
: WP:NOVOTE goes on to state the "communal norm that it is "not the vote" that matters, but the reasoning behind the !vote that is important." I suggest that the reasoning has been presented over a range of similar alternatives, so the poll, complete with comment, helps focus the discussion to where a choice that people can live with emerges.
:I invite you to remove the collapsed format and participate. If you have a better path to consensus, I'm very interested in knowing it! Cheers, ] (]) 15:03, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi Netoholic. My edit to ] (adding "PT1" and "PT2") wasn't designed to denote any sort of prioritization, nor have I been keeping up with the discussion on the talk page to which you referred. (I am not interested in explicitly prioritizing one over the other, but personally believe the second one is probably more important.) It was designed to reduce the confusion that I see among editors when people say "PT1" or "PT2" in naming discussions, when there is nothing on any page that tells them what those things mean in practice. Can you tell me what can be done to clear up this confusion that might be in line with what you say is the consensus of the talk page? Best, ]<small>]</small> 23:29, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

::::I didn't receive your ping, for some reason; the second edit you reverted explicitly denied priority was involved, so it surely did not imply a priority ranking. Just curious as to why you didn't move the subpages when you recently renamed UP to HUP? This meant that the talk page archives didn't follow your page move. It's always good to check because there are rare times when subpages shouldn't be moved, for example, I recently moved '''Civic Center (disambiguation)''' to "Civic Center", a set index page, and was asked if I wanted to move subpages. Rather than them being talk page archives, they were <span class="plainlinks"></span> with a solidus in the title, such as ]. Had I moved them during the round-robin, I would have had a real mess. Usually though, they are just talk page archives that need to be moved with the talk page title. Again, just curious. ''''']'''''<small> ] </small> <small>15:01, 29 March 2018 (UTC)</small>

Since you worked on the ''Frozen'' characters moves, could you consider putting up the ''The Little Mermaid'' pages as uncontroversial moves (I've never figured out how to put multiple listings on RM, and even have coding trouble with regular listings, my uncoded-clouded mind)? The best response to a deletion nomination is to fix the page that was nominated. The further underway the effort is to improve portals by the time the RfC has run its course, the more of the reasons against portals will no longer apply. RfCs typically run 30 days. There are 19 days left in this one. Let's see how many portals we can update and improve before the RfC is closed, and beyond.

Hi, I'd just like to apologise if any of my behaviour seemed disruptive with regards to the Steve Rogers image. I never meant to be disruptive or edit-war, and I guess I was somewhat confused when the image was reverted, as I had thought there was consensus and that the sourcing was ok. I will try to engage constructively to sort the raised issues on the article. Thanks. IronManCap (talk) 16:48, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
Super Dragon Ball Heroes
Hi Netoholic, I'd just like to mention that the series Super Dragon Ball Heroes isn't actually a TV series, it's an Original net animation (similar to Original video animation), so I moved it from Super Dragon Ball Heroes (TV series) to Super Dragon Ball Heroes (web series). Cheers.★Trekker (talk) 20:23, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
- @*Treker: - Fair enough. I didn't see any episode lengths on the list - web series tend to be <10 minute episodes vs TV series which are 30-60m. -- Netoholic @ 20:29, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
- I have not seen the show myself, but the IMDb page says the episodes are 10 minutes.★Trekker (talk) 20:33, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
RfC on racial hereditarianism at the R&I talk-page
An RfC at Talk:Race and intelligence revisits the question, considered last year at WP:FTN, of whether or not the theory that a genetic link exists between race and intelligence is a fringe theory. This RfC supercedes the recent RfC on this topic at WP:RSN that was closed as improperly formulated.

Newspapers.com Publisher Extra content?
Hello there! Last month, I made note that the following statement on the Misplaced Pages:Newspapers.com page, "Free accounts through the Misplaced Pages Library now do include access to Newspapers.com Publisher Extra content", doesn't seem to be the case for me. I'm unable to access a number of newspapers, including the St. Petersburg Times, the Miami Herald, and Allentown, Pennsylvania's The Morning Call. When I attempt to do so, I'm greeted with a message that reads "You need a Publisher Extra Subscription to view this page". How can I access these newspapers? —Matthew - (talk) 21:41, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @MatthewHoobin: - the expanded access is granted to our editors in annual increments. Looks like yours might be expired since your last upgrade was done in early 2020. If you want to renew, visit "My Library", click "My applications" and click the "Request renewal" button next to your previous application. Once we get that processed, your full access will come back for another year. -- Netoholic @ 01:59, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Men articles by quality
A tag has been placed on Category:Men articles by quality indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz 15:27, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

Newspapers.com access
Hi, Netoholic! Hope this finds you well. I am in the process of writing some articles using Newspapers.com. While the free access is pretty helpful on its own (I managed to write 9 GAs from scratch in five days), the OCR versions leave a lot to be desired, and it kind of feels like wringing blood with a stone with some of them (it takes way longer than being able to just click the image, and there are lots of references I just can't use at all). I submitted an application on September 2, but it hasn't been reviewed yet -- is there anything I can do to speed it along, or are there just a bunch of applications to get through? jp×g 23:57, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
- Well, it seems to have gone through -- I've been enjoying it a lot the last few days, and sourcing articles is a breeze! I don't know if you had anything to do with it, but if you did, I offer my gratitude. jp×g 06:48, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

Newspapers.com renewal error
Hi there,
I requested a renewal for complimentary access to Newspapers.com on January 8. However, I cannot access the full archive. When I clicked on "Account Details," it reads under the Subscription info, "You're currently a Registered Guest. This free subscription gets you access to search newspapers but you will not be able to view the full page. Get a paid subscription for access."
I was reading a previous discussion of a similar Wikipedian who encountered the same problem, and it turned out because the e-mail used on the Misplaced Pages Library application was different than the one on the Newspapers.com account. Likewise, my account listed on the application was birdienest81@hotmail.com, but the Newspapers.com account had jgarin07@gmail.com. So I changed the one on the Newspapers.com account to the hotmail one and changed my username to birdienest81. I wonder if this should solve the problem.

Achieving consensus at Talk:Cross-country skiing (sport)?
Netoholic, you are invited to participate in a ranked-choice poll at Talk:Cross-country skiing (sport)#Ranked-choice poll of alternatives offered, which may help arrive at a consensus among the choices discussed. I have set up an opportunity for you to do so. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 17:53, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Netoholic, I understand your good-faith concern about WP:NOTVOTE, which says, "The words "vote" and "voting" have a variety of connotations, but they are commonly associated specifically with ballot-casting or majority voting." It goes on to say, "Different terminology (e.g. "seeking views", "polling" and "commenting") may be preferable." Indeed, what I have offered was a poll to help guide those participating in the discussion to consensus in a situation where none of the alternatives offered is "wrong"; there's just a question of preference among them.
- WP:NOVOTE goes on to state the "communal norm that it is "not the vote" that matters, but the reasoning behind the !vote that is important." I suggest that the reasoning has been presented over a range of similar alternatives, so the poll, complete with comment, helps focus the discussion to where a choice that people can live with emerges.
- I invite you to remove the collapsed format and participate. If you have a better path to consensus, I'm very interested in knowing it! Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 15:03, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Your access to AWB may be temporarily removed
Hello NetBot! This message is to inform you that due to editing inactivity, your access to AutoWikiBrowser may be temporarily removed. If you do not resume editing within the next week, your username will be removed from the CheckPage. This is purely for routine maintenance and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You may regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! — MusikBot II 17:20, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
Newspapers.com account not processing
A while back, you sent a submission to the Newspapers.com. However, as of January 16, 2023, I still had'nt received an application back to the site. Is there anything that I can do atm? Yoshiman6464 23:09, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
- You would have been contacted by email on Dec 22 at the .edu email address you use for your account on Newspapers.com. Can you check for that? -- Netoholic @ 03:52, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- Of course. But on the site, I changed by Email since I recently graduated. Yoshiman6464 13:21, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, but it looks like your Misplaced Pages Library application used the previous address, and that's what we communicated to the partner. They would have sent confirmation to that email address. If you have access to it, please check there. Otherwise, we'll need to provide your current account info to Newspapers.com. If you can't access your other email, then please put in a new application and fully update the account address to what you're using currently. -- Netoholic @ 15:35, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

Source of Edmond Hoyle's portrait?
Hi! This is a long shot, but do you by any chance remember where you found File:Edmond Hoyle.jpg in 2004? I'm trying to confirm that it's actually a portrait of the man. Jyamine (talk) 16:05, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
- Its a fair question, but my original upload was deleted, so I don't have anything to jog my memory. Perhaps there is something in the deleted history at en:File:Edmond Hoyle.jpg. @Maxim:, you were the deleting admin, would you be able to check the edit comments or page text for me to see if I provided a source? If there's nothing, then I'd be happy to help research it. -- Netoholic @ 06:56, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, no, there's absolutely nothing in the history:
- (diff) 06:40, 4 November 2007 . . SieBot (talk | contribs | block) m 105 bytes (Exact duplicate on Commons with same name)
- (diff) 04:14, 23 December 2004 . . Mattingly23 (talk | contribs | block) 13 bytes (added pd tag)
- (diff) 04:35, 6 August 2004 . . Netoholic (talk | contribs | block) empty
- After all it was mid-2004, and it wasn't particularly standard to systematically add attribution or copyright tags to images just yet. :-) Maxim (talk) 11:07, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks anyway! Jyamine (talk) 12:51, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
- I've removed the image from the en Misplaced Pages article as I'm more convinced its not genuine. Will have to look into renaming or deleting from Commons though. -- Netoholic @ 14:25, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
