Shreshth has said it all in his nomination and not much left for me to add. So while vouching for all the good things above including that this is not an exhaustive list, let me make it short and sweet. He is one of the most prolific editors that I have come across and one of the most articulate as well. Let me also add that any concerns during his first RFA have been more than adequately addressed. Just as Dmcdevit said above, I am also delighted that this nomination has been co-nominated by so many others (before I could get in). I've been working closely with Nirav since early this year. He has been instrumental in making 4 of the 5 featured articles on ]-related topics (my area of focus). Even though he is from India, he worked hard, did a lot of research, and with great patience, made ], ], ] and ] into ]. Note that when I say he "made these FA's", it's actually an understatement because a look into the edit histories show that almost all the article improvement and FA-drive were done by him singlehandedly. Also, the two politician articles here (Mujib and Zia) had a lot of scope for controversy, but Nirav handled them excellently, and made the articles as neutral as possible. Not only these, but he has shown the same maturity and neutrality in making ] and ] into FAs. These are only a fraction of his total number of FAs ... he has done a phenomenal job there. He has shown a lot of maturity in his dealings with other people. I trust his judgment in making neutral, logical, and consensus-based decisions. Now that Shreshth has pre-empted my nomination style, I think to summarise that in addition to the sheer prolific contributions that Rama's Arrow has been able to contribute is that he has been able to make such massive amounts of contributions to Indian subcontinent articles, as a major player in many articles about many prominent and at times controversial topics in a completely NPOV manner - and has the full respect of all editors in this sphere, despite the wide range of strongly held political and religious opinions that were prevalent, and would be a great calming force when discontent breaks out in the area. He is also a great helper to other users in guiding them with their article writing issues and is a brilliant role model for the entire region. Aside from that, he keeps a very level head and does his share of cleaning up as well. ::'''A:''' I am proud of all my work - every bit of it. I really enjoy digging up that odd article that's missing from this gigantic enterprise and I am an FA writer - first and foremost. It really helps to build my knowledge by looking for new stuff and going from 0 to 100 on a particular topic. I relish disciplined and skilled jobs such as copyediting, portal maintenance. Importantly (and I don't want to be mushy), I love working with the people here. Apart from the huge amount of knowledge, I've learnt a lot of valuable things from my friends here and I relish a chance to help my mates with FA drives or anything else. Having gained so much from my year here, I'd like to give something back. I want to serve as an administrator to help the growth of this encyclopedia and the community. I want to help protect the flanks of the editors who give so much of their time and knowledge. ::'''A:''' I am proud of all my work - every bit of it. ::'''A:''' I've discussed this question at length at my ] and ] editor reviews, which I recommend to your attention. I've always tried to be civil and helpful but I've suffered on occasion from an impetuous and a bit volatile temperament. Some attempts at jokes haven't been discrete. Happily, I've been able to rectify my mistakes and improve my relationship with the editors in question. I've felt cleansed of negative impulses, which makes me comfortable in asking for the tools now. This is mainly due to the kind help given to me by friends like ], ], ], ] and ]. The guidance these dudes have given me have greatly improved my personality. I've also had a great role-model in ], who recently became the first lady in my life to reject a proposal of marriage from me :( My scorecard: 0-1 :). Should any future situation arise, I will be patient and helpful in my response. I feel a natural respect for the perspectives of others, which I do my best to understand and appreciate but I also know that only reliable data should be on Misplaced Pages. ::'''A:''' I've discussed this question at length at my ] and ] editor reviews, which I recommend to your attention. :'''4.''' How is it that you have three native languages?

I began with mastery in Commonwealth English but I've picked up American English to "native" level since arriving in the US. Yet when I went to Gujarat recently I was stunned at my ability to understand the dialects of the folks of Kutch and Kathiawad without any particular difficulty. At school in Bombay, I was trained in Hindi by teachers who hailed from ]. Frankly, I have a 4th native language - the infamous "Mumbhai" language.... ] 15:53, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

;Optional question from JackyR
:'''5.''' Kinda embarassed to raise this, given all the great stuff above and below, but... I was really surprised at your recent run in with ] (from onwards), a troubled but potentially good editor who had just returned from voluntary exile following a block. No one could question the value of your contributions to WP as an editor (Wow! Awe and Admiration!) - nor that Anwar has been a pain. But as an admin this is the sort of thing you'll have to deal with more often, and I'm concerned that even after your second Editor Review you are still leaping where you should have looked. You misunderstood a rule and "enforced" it, repeatedly, before checking. And you pounced on the guy the moment he reappeared. Is this going to happen again - this time with admin tools in the mix?
:'''A''' I'm glad you raised this. Yes, Anwar has had a troubled history and it remains questionable if he has actually returned to edit, but I have benefited last year from getting a second chance and I can hardly deny Anwar the same. Having said that, I disagree strongly with your interpretation that I "enforced" a rule I misunderstood or "pounced" on Anwar. It is true that given his history of making personal attacks, his allusion to "virgins" and "pensioners" did seem to me more than just a poor-taste joke and attempt at defiance. As it involved sexuality and age, it seemed to be uncivil in a very personal way. Removing the comment, I gave him a warning - this is not "enforcing" any rule, but a serious expression of concern at a user's conduct. A user who is warned may raise the issue through dialogue if he/she feels it was unjustified and Anwar could have done the same but he merely reverted me. My concern raised a notch, . When he informed me that Anwar wasn't actually violating ], I was skeptical and decided to ask at . Obtaining more input, I improved my judgment. Now what would have happened if I had admin tools? Nothing different. Administrators are not there to punish anybody{{spaced ndash}}measures such as blocks are not punitive and to be used only as a last resort. This is especially true over potential violations of ], which are to be treated with great care and substantial effort must be made to calm the editor(s) down. I would have asked Shreshth or another administrator to weigh in (and maybe even go to ]). When Anwar had offended many folks and gotten on everybody's nerves back in June, I learnt a lot when administrators (], ], ]) took great care before applying blocks{{spaced ndash}}] took a lot of abuse from Anwar but never lost his cool or feeling that Anwar would change. They treated Anwar with respect and did their work with care and discretion. With this great example, I could hardly be justified in acting against anybody when I wasn't even 100% that a policy had actually been violated. Its true that I was "fairly sure" that Anwar was in violation until I was corrected, but my actions would be dictated purely by Misplaced Pages policies and the example of discretion set by my colleagues.

His main focus is article writing (as can be seen from the FA, DYK stats), but he is also involved in many other areas of wikipedia like Projects, Portals, discussing issues at ], writing essays to improve wikipedia. Rama's Arrow

Final (159/0/0) Ended Fri, 17 Nov 2006 01:48:55 (UTC)

Rama's Arrow (talk · contribs) – Rama's Arrow (aka Nirav Maurya) has been editing Misplaced Pages since November 2005, and has been highly active all through that period, accumulating over 19 thousand edits.

Primarily, he has been active in India and Indian subcontinent related articles. He has written 10 featured articles Political integration of India, Lothal, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Muhammad Iqbal, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Ziaur Rahman, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Dhaka and Syed Ahmed Khan and has been highly active in editing other articles like Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Fundamental Duties of India, Sikhism, Mahatma Gandhi, Indian nationalism. He has also written 34 DYK articles, a list of which he maintains on his user page. (UPDATE: new DYK article written during the course of this request for adminship: Flag Satyagraha)

He has been a vital part of WikiProject India,WikiProject Politics of India. He has recently become active at WikiProject Pakistan ()

He has touched all aspects of Misplaced Pages namespace, inlcuding featured article candidacy, peer review, requests for adminship, articles for deletion and other deletion discussions (TfD, CfD, MfD).

In portal space, he has created Portal:Himalaya region (created /DYK, /Selected article, /Intro), and has been active at Portal:Presidency of the United States (created /Picture of the week, /Elections, /Selected article, /DYK), and many others.

He is knowledgeable of image copyrights and fair use tagging (1, 2, ).

He has created a number of templates, among them (not including stub templates) {{FCA}}, {{Indian independence movement}}, {{Waters of South Asia}}, {{Bangladesh topics}}, {{Ahmedabad topics}}, {{Karachi topics}}, {{LahoreTopics}}, {{Bulgaria topics}}, {{GWB}}, {{PeshawarTopics}}, {{QuettaTopics}}, {{IslamabadTopics}}, {{Nepal topics}}, {{Bangladesh liberation}}, {{Himalaya region}}, {{Bangalore topics}}, {{Darjeeling}}, {{Nanotechnology}}, {{Dhaka}}, {{Macroeconomics}}, {{MultanTopics}}, {{Bengal Renaissance}}, {{Delhi}}, {{BDeshCities}}, {{VietnamTopics}}, showing his wide and varied interests and work here.

He is flexible in his opinions (, ), and is not afraid to ask if faced with a dilemma (, , ), . He has expressed his opinion freely, though not uncivilly (numerous instances at Talk:Sikhism, an essay written by him), with a slight tendency to veiled humour at times ()

He is aware of the dispute resolution and admin-enforcement process (, , , ). He tries to resolve disputes, and offer help and advice to users involved, as well as trying to cool them down (a MedCab case, an MFD debate, ), though without losing his own temper.

He is a helpful person (). He has even reported himself for violation of 3RR ( ), which in my view, is an amazing example of honesty and integrity.

He is an active vandalfighter, and is highly involved in recent changes patrolling.

His previous RfA is at requests for adminship/Rama's Arrow. His previous editor reviews can be found at Misplaced Pages:Editor review/Rama's Arrow and Misplaced Pages:Editor review/Rama's Arrow 2.

Please note: The above nomination, along with relevant diffs provided are not exhaustive. To get an exhaustive overview of Nirav's work on Misplaced Pages, please see his contributions.

Conomination by Lostintherush

Shreshth has said it all in his nomination and not much left for me to add. So while vouching for all the good things above including that this is not an exhaustive list, let me make it short and sweet. He is one of the most prolific editors that I have come across and one of the most articulate as well. Let me also add that any concerns during his first RFA have been more than adequately addressed. The project deserves him as an administrator and I ask for your support to make him one. – Lost

Co-nomination by Sir Nicholas:
Gosh, wasn't Shreshth91 as exhaustive as Blnguyen? ;-) I have seen Rama's Arrow in action, and he is one of the most fabulous editors on Misplaced Pages. Nirav has *a lot* of featured articles (I said *a lot* because there are many other articles which would not have been featured if Nirav hadn't dealt with them e.g. Ahmedabad). He has a good experience at vandalism-reversion and participating in AfD / MfD debates. Nirav has been a good-faith editor and his civility and willingness to co-operate, discuss and talk with other editors have been exemplery. I think it is time for him to gain the mop! – Nearly Headless Nick 16:13, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Conomination by Dmcdevit

Wow, when I asked to nominate, I didn't realize I'd be upstaged by so many other nominators. Adminship is not intended to be a big deal; in my view, the only two qualifications are good judgment and experience. Nirav definitely has both. His experience is self-explanatory. Judgment is more of an ethereal concept, but I have strong confidence in Nirav: he is consistently pleasant, a cool head, and has proved himself to be very sensible. He knows how things work, and that's saying a lot. I would trust him with the extra buttons and I would trust him to make the good decisions that go along with them. Dmcdevit·t 18:15, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Conomination by Ragib

Just as Dmcdevit said above, I am also delighted that this nomination has been co-nominated by so many others (before I could get in). I've been working closely with Nirav since early this year. He has been instrumental in making 4 of the 5 featured articles on Bangladesh-related topics (my area of focus). Even though he is from India, he worked hard, did a lot of research, and with great patience, made Dhaka, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Ziaur Rahman and Kazi Nazrul Islam into Featured articles. Not only these, but he has shown the same maturity and neutrality in making Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Ali Jinnah into FAs. These are only a fraction of his total number of FAs ... he has done a phenomenal job there.

Not only these, but Nirav has also wrote a huge number of DYKs on many topics. I was pleasantly surprised to see articles like Bara Katra, and others on Bangladesh researched and developed by Nirav.

He has shown a lot of maturity in his dealings with other people. I trust his judgment in making neutral, logical, and consensus-based decisions. Nirav is a an example of the perfect wikipedian: neutral, logical, and has great contributions towards developing the project. Therefore, I feel honored to co-nominate his RFA. --Ragib 23:20, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Co-nomination by Samir धर्म:

A pile-on co-nomination for an outstanding editor and a true asset to the project. He is a talented editor, a thoughtful voice in helping with dispute, and, in short, is simply a pleasure to work with here. – Samir धर्म 00:50, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Conomination by Blnguyen

Blnguyen (bananabucket) 01:04, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: I accept these nominations. With no desire to be soppy, I'd like to say that these nominators are my role-models. Getting the tools would be great but I am simply overjoyed at the confidence they have expressed in me. These gentlemen are the greatest. Words are not enough to express my gratitude. God bless you. Rama's arrow 00:42, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Misplaced Pages in this capacity. Please take the time to answer a few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with? Please check out Category:Misplaced Pages backlog and Category:Administrative backlog, and read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.
A: IMO, an administrator should be willing to do any task as the backlogs and workloads change over time. I will focus on doing specific jobs with discipline but I expect these to change as I want to work on a lot of things. Continuing on RC patrol, I want to work at CAT:CSD, WP:CV, WP:PP, WP:RM, WP:IFD, the different channels of WP:AN and to fight complex vandalism. My involvement at WP:AFD/WP:CFD will be dictated by my continued work on article and media cleanup through Special:Lonelypages and Special:Deadendpages. I'm also interested in the dispute resolution process and I'd like to keep a watchful eye on articles of controversial topics to protect content while making sure no policies such as WP:NPA or WP:3RR are violated.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Misplaced Pages, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A: I am proud of all my work - every bit of it.

3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: I've discussed this question at length at my first and second editor reviews, which I recommend to your attention. I've always tried to be civil and helpful but I've suffered on occasion from an impetuous and a bit volatile temperament. Some attempts at jokes haven't been discreet. Happily, I've been able to rectify my mistakes and improve my relationship with the editors in question. I've felt cleansed of negative impulses, which makes me comfortable in asking for the tools now. This is mainly due to the kind help given to me by friends like Gurubrahma, Bhadani, Sundar, Ragib and Shreshth. The guidance these dudes have given me have greatly improved my personality. I've also had a great role-model in Kylu, who recently became the first lady in my life to reject a proposal of marriage from me :( My scorecard: 0-1 :). Should any future situation arise, I will be patient and helpful in my response. I feel a natural respect for the perspectives of others, which I do my best to understand and appreciate but I also know that only reliable data should be on Misplaced Pages.
Optional question from Cribananda
4. How is it that you have three native languages?
A' I speak Gujarati, Hindi and English at the "native" level. I began learning all three languages when I was very young and I can't remember the one I learnt first. Its like Krishna's relationship with Devaki and Yashoda. All three languages have played an important role in my life so far. I actually feel ashamed that I couldn't pick up Marathi to the same level. I began with mastery in Commonwealth English but I've picked up American English to "native" level since arriving in the US. Yet when I went to Gujarat recently I was stunned at my ability to understand the dialects of the folks of Kutch and Kathiawad without any particular difficulty. At school in Bombay, I was trained in Hindi by teachers who hailed from Uttar Pradesh. Frankly, I have a 4th native language - the infamous "Mumbhai" language.... 5. Kinda embarassed to raise this, given all the great stuff above and below, but... I was really surprised at your recent run in with User:Anwar saadat (from here onwards), a troubled but potentially good editor who had just returned from voluntary exile following a block.
A I'm glad you raised this. My concern raised a notch, I asked Shreshth to have a look. When he informed me that Anwar wasn't actually violating WP:NPA, I was skeptical and decided to ask at village pump. Obtaining more input, I improved my judgment. Now what would have happened if I had admin tools? Nothing different. Administrators are not there to punish anybody – measures such as blocks are not punitive and to be used only as a last resort. This is especially true over potential violations of WP:NPA, which are to be treated with great care and substantial effort must be made to calm the editor(s) down. I would have asked Shreshth or another administrator to weigh in (and maybe even go to WP:PAIN). When Anwar had offended many folks and gotten on everybody's nerves back in June, I learnt a lot when administrators (Nichalp, Ragib, Blnguyen) took great care before applying blocks – Bhadani took a lot of abuse from Anwar but never lost his cool or feeling that Anwar would change.
Sounds pretty cool :-). JackyR | Talk 00:27, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

  22. Strongest possible support - I had to break my wikibreak for this. I would have nominated Nirav if I hadn't known that so many others also wanted to nominate him. I have known Nirav ever since I joined wikipedia. He is the most dedicated wikipedian I have met. His main focus is article writing (as can be seen from the FA, DYK stats), but he is also involved in many other areas of wikipedia like Projects, Portals, discussing issues at WT:RFA, writing essays to improve wikipedia. I could write a lot more but it already has been said by all the nominators. Count mine as the seventh nom if you like. - Aksi_great (talk) 01:43, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

  86. Oh, dear. Self-noms are my favorites and I always give them extra points, so I guess these seven co-noms start Rama's Arrow at minus 7 for me. Sheesh. However. Very luckily, this handicap only goes to indicate what a fine admin RA will make, as even from such a starting-point he remains a great candidate for me.  :-) Support. 87. Immensely strong support OK, seriously, there have been a few times when I saw someone up for adminship and thought that they were already admins. However, never in my time on WP have I been so surprised to see that somebody was not given the mop yet. Rama is- beyond a shadow of a doubt- an exemplary, one-of-a-kind editor, and there isn't a single reason on the face of the earth why this user should not be granted every tool that can be used to better this wonderful encyclopedia. – Kicking222 21:47, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Neutral

Not worth an oppose, but sufficiently of concern to detract from a support. Why does your talk page say that Werdnabot archives it to User talk:Rama's Arrow/Archive2006, when there's been nothing since July there? It was very confusing for me to navigate your talk page archives, with a seperate one for post-August not clearly pointed out except at the sidebox, where I could hardly locate. For a newbie at your talk page, this could be a potential problem. Please clear up your archive method and make your archives just a bit more accessible. Cheers. – Chacor 06:35, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Oh crap... thanks for this - I just setup Werdnabot and it should archive to user talk:Rama's Arrow/Archive2006-B. I have 2 archives - 2006(A) and 2006(B). The 2006(A) runs till July 2006, after which I stopped adding to it. I basically don't like creating too many user subpages, thus this pile-on sorta archiving system. I've added 2 links to the archives at the top of the page. Thanks, Rama's arrow 13:10, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for handling it. – Chacor 13:16, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
  1. Neutral for now, per optional Q5 above. JackyR | Talk 17:58, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Please do not feel offended or embarrased even a bit. I just want your free and frank opinion as regards dealing with such an editor like Most Respected Wikipedian of All Time Mr Anwar. Kindly guide us. May be your insight and Enlightenment (concept) would make me and many editors to become again active in English Misplaced Pages who find themselves virtually cornered and trapped and find themselves as having been driven out by certain sections of editors and certain types of edits. Please guide me and others so that I and many ones like me may again become active wikipedians as we were once upon a time! Thanks and Regards. --Bhadani 21:56, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Well beneath you, Bhadani. No one knows how Anwar will turn out second time round: if we did, he could have been given a lifetime ban back in July. But he wasn't, so he's back, so how does one not start off again with a returned user... Etc.
I raised this eg because the rest of the page is a big love-in for RA's awe-inspiring contribs, and there's very little on specific Qs of judgement - an issue which was prominent at his second Editor Review and is often made a big deal of at RfA. But I used the Anwar eg because it is the only time I can remember seeing RA do something ill-considered! So, though sadly back-handed, it was actually a compliment. I was going to email Nirav (RA) quietly to say this (it's not like he needs my vote!), but since we're now having this conversation: Nirav, you are amazing! Congrats on an incredible RfA, and thanks for taking my Q as it was meant, even tho you disagreed. As ever, all very best wishes, JackyR | Talk 00:27, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
I thank you so much for your kind clarifications. Thanks again. --Bhadani 03:37, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
I thank you even more: you have proved that we are surely a resilient community. Regards. --Bhadani 19:11, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
