Thanks for the heads-up. You don't find the editing patterns to be a bit, um, disturbing? OK, I think I need to undo a bad page move (] -> ]). There have been a few edits since then, but it will be easy to re-create them after the undo. What's the best procedure? Rollback the current article (RoC) then move it? I want to make sure I preserve page histories etc. Complicating it is that ] is now a dab page with its own small history. Thanks. | ] ] 23:30, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

:Based on the tickings off and super-fast reverts I encountered from the editors of the dab page, I think it's fair to assume that they want the old state of affairs back. Most of the post-30 November edit history looks eminently discardable. I'd suggest just zapping ], reverting the move, and rolling back the edits to the pre-move state. According me, the last pre-move versions are:

:* http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Czechoslovak_Socialist_Republic&oldid=86679291

== Agim Çeku ==

Dear Netsnipe,

Greetings from Kosovo. I am writing to you with regards to Agim Çeku article, currently protected, and thus no edits are allowed.
There seems to be a major error in the article, one that required immediate attention, I believe.

The website of the Kosovar Prime Minister states that Agim Çeku, the current PM, was born in the '''Qyshk''' village, Kosovo, on 28 October 1960. This information is available in the Albanian and the Serbian version of the website. However, in the English version a mistake seems to have been made, and his date of birth is presented as October 29, 1960. So, the odds are 2 to 1 that he was born on October 28, not October 29.

Our Misplaced Pages article however states that he was born on the 29 October, 1960, in Peja -- not '''Qyshk'''. Qyshk is a small village and the nearest town is Peja, hence I believe we should write something along the lines that ''Agim Çeku was born on October 28, 1960, in Qyshk, a village near Peja, Kosovo''.

I will be contacting the PM's Office to get a confirmation of his DOB. However, since the material for PM's website is first prepared in Albanian and then translated to other languages, precedence must be given to the information in Albanian.

Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you. ] 20:20, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

== Template:Hostname ==

I'd like to point out that in the few cases where I've used this template I've always used it with the intention to specifically indicate that an IP quite likely is ''not'' shared. E.g it belongs to a cable provider for private customers and may be presumed either static or semi-static, thus repeat vandalism doesn't need to be treated with kid gloves out of worry that it might be a school. So the {{tl|SharedIP}} options wouldn't help. You've reverted yourself, but anyway, was it a simple error, or is there a backstory? ] 13:19, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

:] is an acceptable start for a new article on Misplaced Pages and another editor has moved it back into the encyclopedia. ==Cleanup request==
Hello, Netsnipe. I know you're busy (I see your name all over the place these days so I know you're ''always'' busy), but I was wondering if you could do me a favor. ] created a mess and I've gone through it, reverting vandalism where I could. I have ] 34 pages for deletion where he "awarded" clearly inappropriate barnstars, such as the Tireless Contributor Barnstar to editors who have only made two edits. Would you be willing to follow up and delete those pages before those editors log back in to Misplaced Pages? Most of them haven't contributed in weeks, but the sooner those pages are gone, the better. I would appreciate any assistance you could provide. Thank you. ] 08:28, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

==Removing autoblock on Mounds View Public Schools==
Hey, Netsnipe. Thanks for removing the autoblock on the Mounds View servers and for unblocking me. I have a question though: Given that the IP has had a long history of abuse (back to 2003), should I file an abuse report on my own school? ] 13:29, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for info on reverting.
I'm a fairly new user to the wikipedia.
But i see that other people in my organization (we have the same ip through nat) are vandalising against airlines.
Well thanks anyway.

Hello again Netsnipe. User ] is once again vandalizing the "Homosexuality" article. I just thought I'd bring this to your attention. ] 09:38 13 December 2006

:I am not an administrator who will ban editors that you disagree with on demand. The last time I blocked Izanbardprince, it was because of vandalism to your user page. Read ] carefully for what constitutes vandalism on Misplaced Pages. This is clearly a ] dispute and I will not intervene. Please see ] instead. The only other times that I will intervene is if either side violates the ] or ] policies and in which case you can report it at ]. ==To Be Clear==
So what you are saying is that a user with a past history of vandalizing pages he disagrees with, replacing NPOV statements with virulent communist diatribes, AS HE HAS DONE REPEATEDLY IN THE PAST 48 HOURS to the homosexuality article, is not worthy of your attention as an administrator? The term "Point of View" dispute and "Vandalism" are one and the same with this user! Give me a break! I would also like to point out that your condescending remark about you not being an admin who will block people I disagree with was just plain stupid! I never asked you to block anybody in my post. All I said was that a known vandalizer of articles was at it again and I was bringing the issue to your attention.

] 10:06 13 December 2006

:Apologies if I sounded condescending, but I've been badgered this way in the past by others and I'm awfully wary of it happening it again. Please report such incidents at ] and other independent administrators will review the situation. -- ]] 17:13, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

== Blocking my students ==

Dear Andrew,

Recently one of the Misplaced Pages adminstrators has blocked the user pages created by students enrolled in one of my classes (Com 435, Emerging Communication Technologies, Purdue University). He labeled them as "spam" pages because they included a link to my webpage. The link was present on those pages because I showed the students how to create a link on their user pages, using as an example a hyperlink to my webpage. This was meant to be a simple exercise and temporary. The administrator has interpreted this, however, to be the work of a spammer who has created a bunch of sock puppet accounts. I do not know what kind of evidence he used to conclude that, but when appealed, his decision was confirmed by you. In addition, my URL, matei dot org has been blacklisted. I think that your own research in the matter was at the very least superficial and your decision rash and uninformed. I demand that you unblock my students' accounts immediately and you take my page off the blacklisted list. All the student accounts are legit. The students want to be Misplaced Pages editors and you should give them a chance to learn how to use it. Your behavior cannot but turn people off from using and improving this site.

I appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

For a track record of the actions, please refer to this:

All the best,

Dr. Sorin A. Matei

Picture of the day George N. Barnard George Norman Barnard (December 23, 1819 – February 4, 1902) was an American photographer who was one of the first to use daguerreotype, the first commercially available form of photography, in the United States. A fire in 1853 destroyed the grain elevators in Oswego, New York, an event Barnard photographed. Historians consider these some of the first "news" photographs. Barnard also photographed Abraham Lincoln's 1861 inauguration. Barnard is best known for American Civil War era photos. He was the official army photographer for the Military Division of the Mississippi commanded by Union general William T. Sherman; his 1866 book, Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign, showed the devastation of the war. This photograph, by Mathew Brady, shows Barnard c. 1865.Photograph credit: Mathew Brady; restored by Adam Cuerden ArchiveMore featured pictures...

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
