Hi. Thanks for uploading that photo and adding it to ]. A couple of comments, though. You tagged it as "own work" and put yourself as the author, which isn't correct. You should put the name of the photographer if known, otherwise "unknown photographer". Also, could you scan the back of the photo and upload that as well? The label on the back that you mention will help prove the provenance. ] ] 14:59, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
:Hi, Merry Christmas. As for your first concern, I have edited the image to put “Unknown photographer” as the author (I could not find any information on the photographed), but I a, not sure what to do with the “source” tab. When I remove it, it defaults to “own work”.
:As for the attribution, it appears to actually be on the side - my mistake. There appears to be initials written on the side of the frame. These must have been written some time between the date of the photograph and when it was put into storage in 1961. The initials are written in cursive and I have shown them here. I am not the best at reading cursive, and it is not exactly model writing, but they appear to feature the initials EGF (to the best of my knowledge). While I am not certain about the E and the F, the G is quite recognizable, and there are no other possible male relatives with the middle initial of G.

I am quite certain that the photograph is of Faile, as I have also seen this photograph circulating on the internet attributed to Faile. While not solid proof, this is what led me to identify the photograph as Edward G Faile when I first found it, later confirmed by the writing on the side. I hope this is enough evidence. If not, I will investigate further. ] (]) 16:39, 25 December 2024 (UTC)

Edward Faile photo
Hi. Thanks for uploading that photo and adding it to Edward G. Faile. A couple of comments, though. You tagged it as "own work" and put yourself as the author, which isn't correct. You should put the name of the photographer if known, otherwise "unknown photographer". Also, could you scan the back of the photo and upload that as well? The label on the back that you mention will help prove the provenance. RoySmith (talk) 14:59, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, Merry Christmas. As for your first concern, I have edited the image to put “Unknown photographer” as the author (I could not find any information on the photographed), but I a, not sure what to do with the “source” tab. When I remove it, it defaults to “own work”.
- As for the attribution, it appears to actually be on the side - my mistake.
- If this is not enough to establish a connection, that’s fine. I plan on getting the photographs refurbished, as the back of the frame has been damaged. Perhaps this will uncover further evidence. James G Thorn (talk) 16:39, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'm going to assume that's all correct and if somebody else wants to dig further, I'll leave that to them. RoySmith (talk) 16:51, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
