Sally Kirkland Jr. (born October 31, 1944) is an American actress. Born in New York City, she is the goddaughter of the late actress Shelley Winters. She was named for fashion editor Sally Kirkland, her mother, who was a fashion editor at Vogue and LIFE magazines.

Kirkland was a student of Lee Strasberg and a member of the Andy Warhol coterie. She began acting Off-Broadway in 1962, and has been said to have been the first actress to appear nude in legitimate theater, in a 1968 production of Sweet Eros.

After several small roles in such films as The Sting, The Way We Were, A Star Is Born JFK and Private Benjamin, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1987 for Anna and won the Golden Globe for Best Actress.

Kirkland has had a highly successful and varied career, having appeared in nearly 150 films. She has also had frequent television roles, including Valley of the Dolls and the soap opera Days of Our Lives. She played Ed's mother in Edtv and recently Edie Sedgwick's grandmother in Factory Girl.
