The competition follows a similar format to the 2021 edition with 10 teams starting in the preliminary round and 3 teams getting a bye to the quarter-finals. For the second time in the Canadian Championship, each tie will be played as a single-leg fixture. CF Montréal, Toronto FC and Pacific FC enter the tournament in the quarter-finals. CF Montréal and Toronto FC get a bye due to their placements in the 2021 edition and Pacific FC gets a bye due to winning the ].

The 2022 Canadian Championship will be the fifteenth edition of Canada's national soccer cup tournament, awarding the Voyageurs Cup. It is scheduled to take place from 10 May to July 2022. The winners of the tournament will earn a berth in the 2023 CONCACAF Champions League.

Format

The competition follows a similar format to the 2021 edition with 10 teams starting in the preliminary round and 3 teams getting a bye to the quarter-finals.
