Heinrich Walpot von Bassenheim was the first Grand Master (Hochmeister) of the Teutonic Order, from 1198 to 1200.
Very little is known about him and all the information is mostly based on historians' theories.
Von Bassenheim hailed from a very rich family from Mainz. He was in favour of turning the organization into an Order.
In 1199, von Bassenheim received a copy of monastery rules from the hands of Gilbert Horal, the Grand Master of the Templars, and on behalf of pope Innocent III. It was based on the Templars rules.
Von Bassenheim died and was buried in Acre.
