Kompa (sometimes written konpa or compa) is a musical genre as well as a dance that originate from Haiti. It comprises mostly of beat with a medium tempo with an overusage of synthesizers. It constrasts with zouk by the fact that the rhythm is faster and the lyrics are mostly in Haitian Creole. Kompa songs are often extremely sexually explicit.
In North America, kompa festivals take place rather frequently in Montreal, New York, Miami and Boston in more or less that order.
