Hehe, same grade. I'll have to challenge you again sometime... Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 18:56, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Indeed. — Emiellaiendiay 19:22, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Fucking Åmal

I'm looking thorugh it at the moment and will let you know as soon as I've translated the Swedish one. Will look through the actress' articles too and see what I can do to them. Thanks for letting me know about themIntesvensk 16:35, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

RE: WP Africa Invitation

Thanks for the invitation Emiellaiendiay. -- FayssalF - 09:26, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Welcome and thanks for all you are doing on Misplaced Pages

I see nobody has officially welcomed you; so that would be me. Your level of energy and creativity is herewith acknowledged. It is refreshing to see someone put so much positive effort forward, since Misplaced Pages is rife with people who complain and criticise, without producing much in the way of real additions. I have a few queries regarding your newly created and excellent idea for "Jumpaclass"

  • I don't see how you are doing the accounting, for example, if one creates a new article and takes it to "start class". Does that create twice the point count as just moving a "stub" to "start"?
  • What does "head to head" mean?
  • Is it allowed to help out on another article that has been listed by another editor?"

(please respond here to keep the thread intact, as i am watching this page for now.) Anlace 23:11, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome and acknowledgement. Before I say anything else, I must rightly acknowledge Dev920 for the invention of Jumpaclass. I've only tried to get the concept started on other WikiProjects. (It orginated on WP:LGBT, as can be viewed here.) It's been quite effective in that project, so I thought it could be brought over to WP:BAY.

I'll now address your questions:

  • Besides wondering about how it would work, I haven't really considered the creation of a new article. As of now the project only considers taking a stub, start, or B-class article to a higher class. If it is to include creating articles from scratch, I'd add on an extra point for taking an article from nonexistence to stub status. So instead of two, it'd be three points.
  • Head-to-head is when an editor challenges another editor to compete in Jumpaclass. They each pick an article on the same day. Each attempts to bring his or her article to a higher class than the other, within a week. The final class of the article is judged a different editor than either of the two participating in head-to-head.
  • I suppose it is impossible to avoid having other editors work on an article at the same time, but the contributions of only the editor participating in Jumpaclass should be considered in terms of getting points. This does bring up an interesting idea: joint collaboration, which I think I might add as an option.

Check out the LGBT Jumpaclass to see how Jumpaclass works when more it's active than SFBA's currently is.

You've brought up a lot of good points, so I'll make some changes to Jumpaclass right now.

Emiellaiendiay 23:32, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

P.S. Thanks for participating in it!

Thanks for your quick clarifications. The LGBT Jumpaclass does look good, being so active. Hopefully we can stimulate a similar level of fervour. One more question/suggestion. We should make sure we have a mechanism for early review if an editor requests to allow for a shot at DYK, since DYK has only a five day window for acceptance. The stub tag needs to be removed for proper nomination to DYK. As above please respond here. Anlace 01:05, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Apologies, but I'm not very familiar with DYK. Would you please explain how it works, so that I better understand your question? Also, are you referring to the project tag with the stub class listed, or to the stub tags placed on the article page? Thanks, — Emiellaiendiay 01:24, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
DYK stands for "Did you know?". These are articles selected by administrators to appear in summary form on the main page of wikipedia. To qualify an article must be either new or newly evolved from stub to higher class. The key timing element is that it is not eligible for DYK if it is over 5 days old. Thus if we wait a full 7 days to review the newly graduated articles, they wouldnt make the deadline. It would be nice to have all the hard work of the SF bay area group be acknowledged on the main page. i see the possible solutions as follows:
  • 1. An editor could request early review by placing a tag beside her (or his) nom such as "(Review now)"
  • 2. An editor could request early review by placing a tag saying "(needs early review for DYK)". In this case the article should be scheduled for a more thorough review at your seven day mark, in case the article improves further. And at least the stub tag could be removed at the early point to allow DYK candidacy. Anlace 03:40, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. I've added the option of "speedy review" to the list. Do you think that takes care of the issue? — Emiellaiendiay 03:49, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Yes, thanks for the responsive change. That should solve it. One (hopefully) final point. I would quibble that going from scratch to "start" class should be worth two points. Cheers. Anlace 04:36, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I thought about it (especially considering I wrote the history of Piedmont, California article from scratch), but what made me make it the same as "from stub" is that it's very easy to create a stub; it could take but two minutes. In that way stubs are hardly different from starting from nothing. If you can think of any way to address this issue, I'd be happy to change the points value. — Emiellaiendiay 07:17, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Your point is a good one and i think the complexity involved of defining a "short stub" is not worth sacrificing the simplicity of use of the existing system. So you've convinced me. :) Regards. Anlace 14:44, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Farming out my ideas to other projects - I'm so proud! And is it me, or does the collaboration and project template look strangely familiar on WP:BAY? :) Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 22:17, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Jumpaclass

Thanks for the invitation! I'm afraid though that I'm more of a nuts-and-bolts person making small changes to articles. If you look here: Misplaced Pages:WikiGnome you will find a picture of me. :-) Schmiteye 01:35, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

All right; that's fine. But if you ever feel like contributing to an article beyond Gnome-edits, you know where Jumpaclass is! P.S. Thanks for teaching me a new Wiki-term. — Emiellaiendiay 01:39, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Importance assessments on Proj SF bay area

Thanks for all the work you ve put into this project E. Is the assessment format set up to accept "importance" ratings? I tried a couple and they didnt seem to work the same way project California works. Is there a format one needs to use? Please respond here to keep the thread intact. Best regards. Anlace 03:35, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

No, it's not set up for rating by importance, only by class. Unfortunately, I'm not savvy enough to change that, but if you know how, you're welcome to add the importance option. — Emiellaiendiay 03:42, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
well ive spent an hour rewriting the source code and got it programmed to accept "importance" levels, but the display got fouled up, so ive reverted the template to its old version before i started my efforts. perhaps we could ask for help from the programmer who did the project california page. Category:Lesbian novels

Hi, thanks for creating this category, it's something I felt was missing before. I have every intention of helping to fill it up and adding bisexual/gay/trans versions. I was just wondering about the name though. Do you think we might run into trouble with what exactly constitutes a "lesbian novel"? ie is it any novel by a lesbian author, one dominated by lesbian themes, main character lesbian, featuring minor lesbian characters / subplots? Maybe it should be something more along the lines of the "LGBT-related films" category. What do you think? Belovedfreak 17:18, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes I think "lesbian-themed novels" sounds better. Earlier I placed it into Category:Novels. Do you think it's ok there or should it be in Category:Novels by genre or something? Thanks Belovedfreak 18:21, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Africa

Well, while adding the above messages, I noticed a mention of the Africa Project and got seriously sidetracked. I've tagged some Cameroonian musicians with the AfricaProject tag, and I think I'll now go and add my name to the project! Belovedfreak 18:43, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Jumpaclass

i thought you would challenge me today on a "head-to-head"..... :) Anlace 04:24, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Great, i accept your gauntlet. i assume we are dealing with the two articles we each posted on feb 26th? as far as reviewing your article, i shall provide a skeletal review on the article talk page as a guide to help another editor finish the review. since i am a regular competitor, i think i shouldnt be a regular reviewer. what are your thoughts on this? it seems like we need to recruit some reviewers to help us with the review cycle part of Jumpaclass. In any case you have done a super job on the piedmont middle school, and if no one steps forward within a few days i shall finalise the review at your choice. how does that all sound? best. Anlace
Havens is looking great Em. Regarding Piedmont, do you wish me to complete the review? I started the re-rating on the Piedmont talk page and was hoping someone not involved in the competition could help us with reviewing. but if no one steps forward, your article needs a re-review ASAP. let me know what you think. best regards. Anlace 18:00, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
It would be great if you could reassess Piedmont Middle School. I'll try to get someone else involved in the reviewing aspect of JAC, but until then it's up to us to do it, excluding reviewing our own articles. — Emiellaiendiay 00:48, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
done. Anlace 17:30, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
congrats on your outcome of the great article on Havens; one rarely sees an article on a school of this quality. i guess our competition resulted in a tie...:) User:Quarls was good to step up and do reviews for the articles. we shall have to compete again (for a tiebreaker) after i recover from my surgery of yesterday. i have updated the February page as much as i could. I have added the points for Havens and Tolay to the point counter, but i didnt know how you wanted to file away completed "head to head" so i leave that bit to you. best regards. Anlace 17:08, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Fucking Åmal (again)

Hi there. I have posted a translation of the Swedish article on the English article's talk page. See what you think. Take care. Intesvensk

WatchlistBot

I'll add WikiProject Africa to my to do list, and let you know if I have any questions, or when I get it done. Ingrid 00:05, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

I started tagging categories for you, and created the watchlist. I was tagging Arab/Arabic categories because I was thinking Saudi Arabia was part of Africa (geography is not my strong suit). So, I realize my geography error, but I also think there are a fair number of Arabs in Africa. So, please let me know if the project wants to include all Arab/Arabic categories, none, or wants me to generate a list so you can choose. Ingrid 19:58, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Project News
  • With such rapid development of the project, it was decided that a Coordinator was needed to ensure all the fiddly maintenence was kept up. Elections were held and Dev920 (talk · contribs) has been elected Coordinator for the next three months. She said "I am honoured and proud to be at the helm of such a fantastic WikiProject and look forward to our future". Congratulations Dev!
  • The assessment system continues to be a great success, we have tagged over 5200 articles! Please tag any LGBT related articles you come across by adding {{LGBTProject | class=}} to the talkpage. Please see the Assessment Department for how to assess an article according to the grading system.
  • Jumpaclass is proving to be quite successful! The winner at the end of the year gets to pick the January collaboration, so sign up and get going! Or challenge another user to see how far you can jump a stub!
  • A new Community department has been set up to foster community amongst our members. It mostly acts as other WikiProjects' Outreach department, but also has a Quilt to which every member is entitled to add a square containing anything of their choice.
  • The peer review is not getting much custom - please notice you can cross-list other peer reviews from different projects that also fall within our scope.
  • Many people still seem to be unaware that the Deletion sorting subpage exists for XfDs to be listed: please use and watch that page instead of issuing "alerts" for ordinary AfDs on the project talkpage.
  • WP:FILM has a current drive to give every film article an infobox. WP:LGBT successfully gave all 105 LGBT infoboxless films infoboxes, so a big thank you to everyone who participated.
  • A new template, LGBT-footer, has been created for articles which are becoming to cluttered with infoboxes. Thanks to WJBscribe and SatyrTN for creating it.
  • A very basic resources page has been started. Please add to it as you come across useful sites.
  • A promotional poster for the project has been created: http://wplgbt.tripod.com/Wikipedianeedsyou.doc (you have to directly cut and paste the url, or it won't let you download it). Please distribute anywhere and everywhere you desire, such as gay libraries, cybercafes, community centres and so on. Also, please let Dev920 know where you have put it up, so she can keep track of our coverage.
  • An LGBT Publications Taskforce has been proposed. Please sign up here if you are interested in being involved.
  • An LGBT WikiProject has been set up on the Spanish Misplaced Pages! Set up by Raystorm, it has already gained six members and is developing an assessment system. If you speak any Spanish, please consider going up and lending a hand if you can!

Thank you for your tremendous help on our school's wiki! (Skyline)

I hope to add more to the article, but find that it is very difficult to cite any websites because, quite frankly, I would not expect anyone writing about a high school in Oakland.

However, there is a ton of primary and secondary resources that are not on the web: yearbooks, anecdotes by teachers who have known the school since its inception, and especially word-of-mouth information that is agreed upon by a consensus around here.

Is it even possible to put that on Misplaced Pages? Lots of great info, just not on the web. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kleinheero (talkcontribs) 23:47, 3 March 2007 (UTC).

Johann Hari

Hi there - please do stay engaged with the Johann Hari discussion, this guy felix-Felix is clearly trying to twist the entry to attack Hari and I could do with all the support I can get! Jumpaclass

Do you intend to apply for GA for Intersexuality? Otherwise I can't really do anything with the article. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 15:41, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

It's an ad hoc thing at the moment, i.e. no-one does it because they think everyone else will. That's why they made me coordinator. :) I try and keep on top of it but sometimes I forget and stuff gets overrun. I needs to get me a daily checklist. You're welcome to assess other people's jumpaclass, should you wish to. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 22:11, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

The Academy (Berkeley, California)

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article The Academy (Berkeley, California), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
