Piptadeniastrum africanum is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae. It is a tree native to tropical sub-Saharan Africa, ranging from Senegal to Sudan and Angola. It is the sole species in genus Piptadeniastrum.
Piptadeniastrum africanum is a large rain forest tree, growing up to 160 160 feet (49 m) tall. It has a straight bole, with large plank-like buttresses. The crown is spreading with parasol-like branches. Foliage is fine and fern-like, and flowers are yellowish-white and arranged in panicled spikes. It grows in the humid tropical Guineo-Congolian forest of western and central Africa.
The genus belongs to the mimosoid clade of subfamily Caesalpinioideae.
