The school was one of the popular group A schools which participated in the Cottco Schools Rugby Festival which was held annually at Prince Edward School. Ellis Robins was also popular for using the trademark nickaname "FUSH". They were rivals with Allan Wilson School and regularly clashed and fought at the athletics competitions held at The National Sports Stadium. There were 4 sporting houses at the school , which were Malcom, Lawley, Abercorn and Newton. Borders were automatically placed into Malcom, and also their boarding hostel was called Malcom House. Ellis Robins School is a Boys High School which was founded in Salisbury, Rhodesia in 1953. It was located in the surbub of Mabelreign in Salisbury (now called Harare). Next door to the school was Mabelreign Girls High School, which was the sister school of Ellis Robins School. The school colours for Ellis Robins was yellow and blue, on their badge they had two dolphins which were facing each other, the school motto was " Esse Quam Videri" which means "It's Better To Be Than To Seem To Be".
