– There is no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Great Lakes". The African Great Lakes are at least equally significant, and in aggregate contain more fresh water than their North American counterparts. Vpab15 (talk) 16:14, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose, "Great Lakes" is almost exclusively used to refer to the American ones, and there's no precedent for calling the U.S. ones the "Great Lakes of North America".

- The article about the lakes in North America says they are also called that. I'm inclined not to believe it and don't see an obvious source for it anywhere. - The results of Google books show that the North American lakes are primary in North America only. If North American publishers are excluded that is not the case.
