== Are We On The Same Page? ==

Hi. I received your post on my Talk Page. It seems that we are not at all on the same page. I attribute that to the fact that communicating via email text is very different than speaking face-to-face.

Please refer to your post on my Talk Page, as I will address the points here (below).

(1) You did not answer Question #1 at all. Or, more likely, you misinterpreted the question and answered a completely different question. The original question was: where exactly on my original text about Academy Award movies was the error I made in spacing? After you fixed the error, I could not spot the error that you fixed. And my goal was two-fold: one, to have the error fixed; and two, to understand what the error was so as not to repeat it. Your answer to my Question #1 was about whether or not to delete help me messages, which in no way addressed what I was asking. My point being ... bad communication. Not on your part, or mine -- but simply because we are trying to have a "conversation" over the computer.

(2) You said that Help Me requests remain on one's Talk Page in order for the helpee to track down which type of problems I am having with Misplaced Pages. I am not sure if you meant "helper" (with a typo) or "helpee." Again, bad communication. If you meant "helpee" --- then, I am the helpee ... that is, the one being helped. Once the issue is resolved, I do not need to know further what type of problems I WAS (past tense) having with Misplaced Pages. Hence, that is why I delete the messages and type "resolved" in the Edit Summary box. If you typed a typo and meant "helper" ... still, once the issue is resolved, why would the helper need to know what type of issues I (in the past) needed help with? It makse no sense to me. And I am asking for informational purposes, rather than accusatory purposes. Furthermore, I have looked at many Talk Pages ... I never see people holding onto OLD help me messages. Furthermore, I thought that all of this stuff is automatically archived in the HISTORY tab, anyway? That is, whether or not I delete it, it is still "there" somewhere in the HISTORY tab. No?

(2a) I am not disputing the fact that I deleted "this, this, and this." In fact, I admitted such and explained why. My point is that your messages to me were cryptic. I already explained how I interpreted your messages in my first post: (1) that some one was playing a joke; (2) that is was some kind of spam; and (3) that you were alerting others on Misplaced Pages that my issue was resolved and, in effect, help was no longer needed here. Those are all reasonable interpretations on my part. Your messages -- I found cryptic -- and I certainly did not understand them (otherwise, we would not be engaging in this very discussion presently). Your messages said something to the effect of "Help Me notice has been taken down." It did not use normal, plain English like: "please refrain from doing such and such on Misplaced Pages because of the following reasons."

As a further note: Why should I keep these Help Me messages on my Talk Page, once the issue is resolved? My page would be cluttered in 5 minutes. And, once the issue is resolved, why would I want to keep an archive of old, resolved issues that I now understand? I don't understand the policy or the procedure here. So, let me know, please.

(3) "Adoption" is very cryptic. I got a message that says, "Are you interested in Adoption?" My interpretations were quite reasonable: (1) someone was playing a joke; (2) it was some kind of spam; (3) some one needed help and contributions to the article on Adoption. Because I just gave you three reasonable interpretations of your post, your post -- by definition -- is cryptic. You may be an experienced Misplaced Pages user and, as such, the jargon term "adoption" means something different to you ... as does the ability to click that link and other Wiki procedures. What I am saying to you -- as a new Wiki user -- is that your message was cryptic and a normal, reasonable person unfamiliar with Wiki jargon would have had similar reasonable interpretations of your message about adoption.

So, bottom line: your communications to me have been ineffective -- by definition, because they did not achieve the desired effect. As I said, I am new to Misplaced Pages and your Wiki jargon, terms, and procedures are (obviously) new and foreign to me, as they are with any new user. Let's shoot for better communication. And you need to understand that the message you deliver is not necessarily the message that is received.

Thanks for your time. Please reply. Especially to Question #1, which you did not answer in the first go-round.

And, as a P.S. -- Misplaced Pages is very hard to navigate and no, I sincerely do not have the time to sit and read every Wiki policy, practice, help page, link, etc.

Thanks! (] 00:49, 30 April 2007 (UTC))

Thanks for the mop

It's about time I had one of my own, I guess. Uh, what does the template do? Nothing but add me to Category:Misplaced Pages administrators ? I don't see anything else happening on the page from your edit, but that could be me. Bishonen | talk 02:42, 28 April 2007 (UTC).

Copt

Dear Real96, Thank you for your message concerning the article Copt. I have put a lot of effort and work into the article and found that User:Egyegy simply discredits everything I do by reverting my edits back. I have supplied my info with sources, and even agreed to reach certain consens on certain issues. I also extended an invitation on the talk page to discuss the issues of mutual disagreement. All I got back with additional deletion of my work! I had to continue reverting my work back. Any advise about needs to be done in this case? Thanks. --Lanternix 03:03, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Try to take the dispute to the talk page. If not, do an request for comment for imput on the community. Real96 03:06, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
